"Nina! You're in today... I... I wasn't sure if you turn up." My supervisor stumbles over her words, looking over at me from the top of her clipboard. I couldn't blame her, the last couple of months had been some of the toughest of my life. Losing Aurora, the way I had, had caused me to slip from the face of the earth. For the first time ever I stopped turning up to shifts, and the ones I did turn up to I was mentally absent, my focus slipping so much that they asked me to take time off, time to take care of myself, to figure things out.

It hurt me to disappoint my father, to let him down after everything he had done for me, and even though he claimed that he understood why I was behaving the way I was, I could still see the disappointment in his eyes. And the guilt. Guilt that he had been grateful Aurora had stepped forward because that had saved me. And he had already lost one daughter, he wasn't ready to lose another.

"Of course, I'm here," I say with a light smile, slipping my ID lanyard over my neck. "Where am I today?"

"You actually have a tour to give-"

"-A tour? Come on put me on the-"

"-It's not optional, Nina." Stern eyes meet my own and I bite back an argument, giving her a slight nod. "He's about your age, from district 1. His name is Cedric Bridgerton. He's just down the hall."

"Yes, ma'am," I say with a slight salute. My supervisor rolls her eyes and I move to head down the hall, plastering a wide, welcoming smile onto my lips as I greet the boy standing next to the desk, he was rather handsome and for a moment I forget how to speak. "Mr. Bridgerton," I finally say, extending a hand between us. "Nina Hart, I'll be your guide today."

Cedric thinks he's a bad son, a bad brother, for that feeling of relief that washes over him when the Academy allows him to go to Six for a few classes, said that they had some of the best universities in Panem. Then there's the part of him that feels like he can finally breathe after his lungs have been restricted for so long, crushing underneath the weight of his name, suffocating him slowly. It's agony pretending to be something you're not, all with a picturesque smile painted on your face.

He slouches in the chair next to the desk, looking down at his watch and seeing the time tick by. He wasn't used to waiting this long, most people in One would drop whatever they were doing to help him, the Bridgerton name held a lot of weight in its three syllables. Cedric has to bite the inside of his cheek to stop from smiling. The change of pace is nice, almost refreshing.

"Mr. Bridgerton," a sweet voice says. Cedric's breath hitches when his last name is said, it was to forget about it for those few minutes. He looks up to meet the voice, a girl about his age stands in front of him with a wide, pretty smile on her face. She has the type of eyes you could get lost in, and Cedric has to shake himself out of that. He reflects the smile on her face back. "Nina Hart, I'll be your guide today."

"Cedric," he smiles, clasping Nina's hand in his, "Call me Cedric."

"Cedric. Call me Cedric." He says around a smile that had matched my own. It looked genuine, which despite myself, surprised me. I hadn't meant many careers in my day. But I had seen them on TV, I had watched how they hide behind smiles as sharp as knives. They used their smiles and their charm and freakishly good looks to manipulate those around them. But Mr. Bridgeton- Cedric, did not seem like what I amine a young career to be. I try to ignore how warm his hand felt in mine as he clasped it gently.

"Well, Cedric, why don't you follow me and I'll give you a quick tour of the hospital. This wing in particular has gone under quite a bit of renovation since the bombings. Everything is up to date, first-class machinery." It turns out I rambled when in the presence of a gorgeous young man. Pointing out new machinery as we walked past them. I think I even pointed to a 'state of the art' trash can and gushed about just how it incinerated trash upon entry.

"So, what brings you all the way out here to District Six?" I ask as we come to the cafeteria, gesturing at one of the free tables. "I bet it's nothing like One, much more, ah, plain." I hadn't been to One, there was no extravagance about the architecture. The streets of the lower district and in the parks were lines with the homeless. It broke my heart walking to work to see a child sleeping on a park bench. "Did you want something to eat?"
