It has been creeping up on him, the elections. His final term. Not many people know yet. Those that work in the office know. His wife was the first to know, she was the one he discussed it with first. Of course, her and Preston were the reason Pierre put his name down the first time. Now this year, his name will not be on the list for the first time in fifteen years. Fifteen great years as mayor of District Eight. It has at least not gone to waste, or he hope it hasn’t.
His family has grown, and they have lost some. The games are proving to be a curse for the extended family. In fifteen years, he has rebuilt District Eight, become a household name and even a grandfather. It is time to hand it over. It is time for someone else to have a go. Panem is changing and he knows he cannot keep up with it.
It is a bitterly cold day; Pierre is wrapped in his brown winter coat with a red and dark green scarf protecting his neck and chin from the elements. It is a fair walk to his son’s shop. He is proud of Preston, for taking on his own life and settling down. He knows there has been times where he hasn’t given him enough attention. Talk is always on the ones they lost.
There are no customers in the shop when he steps through the door, now might be the right time. ”Preston, do you have time to talk?” Pierre does not ask how his son his or even wish him a merry Ratmas. Maybe he needs to work on being a real father and not just the mayor.
