Annie had spent a good amount of time trying to ignore the world right before the 89th. To be very frank, she had already been told that if she did not shape up, she would be sent somewhere to get her priorities straight. She hated every bit of the “pep” talk that she had gotten the day she had tried to end it all. They always said that what they gave to her was a gift, but Annie never saw it that way. Just because she got to walk out of the games with an uno reverse card, did not mean that she cared any less. She had no clue what they were up too, the capitol that was.

She had spent a couple months trying to just accept that this was her life, and then a week before the reaping, she had spent a long while with Trish and Axel, making sure they knew what to expect if they were ushered into spotlight.

However, the day of the reaping, she did not expect to hear Anarchy volunteer. And then to top it all off, they brought the fucking dog with them. Annie brought him back to the capitol, and while she didn’t want to give them back at first, she knew that it was important for Angel to have the dog. It was that part of being a decent human being that Annie never had the most practice at. Nico Thorne was right, Annie was selfish in a lot of ways.

But she felt like she had every right to be so. Especially since the Capitol had taken all credibility from her the moment they announced all the tributes got to live. She knew that would also mean that her family would be subjected to whatever the capitol had planned. Arc was a causality of that.

Nixie Summers was not.

Number two in less than ten years. Annie had been told multiple times that a feet hadn’t been accomplished since Katelyn Persimmon. While her reign was back to back, Annie apparently still had gravity. They even mentioned it from time to time in the recap that Annie was forced to watch while she had to wait for Nixie to come out of the medical wing. Fast forward to now, Annie was still missing Arc, but she had to keep it all together for Nixie. She was lucky, truly lucky, because now the Capitol would be off her back for at least a year.

That in itself was a gift.

Ten hadn’t changed much since she had last been here. It had only been a few months, but Annie felt comfortable here. She did come up this way at least once a month to see Saffron and catch up. Sometimes she would bring Trish or Axel with just to expose them to the rest of the districts. They were getting older, and Annie wanted to make sure that they would at the very least, get to see what each district had to offer.

Neither of them were in sight when Lorenzo had made his way through the fog in her mind and embraced her like she had been a long lost friend. This time, it felt different, the hug a little more sentimental. She felt like Enzo was sorry for something that he did not cause. ”Hello Enzo.” Annie was brought back to the fight in the arena that they were both involved in. They both made it out of it alive, Denali and Lex both proving just how vicious they were. Annie kept up, and so did Lorenzo. However, they never saw each other again. Not until after it was all said and done. He had always been a sweet boy, especially after the awkwardness had faded away.

Well, mostly on his end. ”Sorry, with all the games stuff wrapping up, I haven’t had time to come see you guys.” Annie accepted the hug as long as Enzo wanted to give it to her. When he pulled back, she took a step back and looked behind her to see that Nixie had been busy with almost everything else. Honestly, she didn’t blame her, because Leon pretty much did the same thing. Even he knew that it was time for a new guard to take over. He was there to watch her if need be, but as far as Annie was concerned, she felt like it was on her to bring another victory home for four.

Now she brought two.

”Harlem gave me a trim a couple weeks ago, but I told them I wanted to grow it out a little more. ” Annie was started to find some sort of acceptance that this was just going to be how her life was now. ”I really need to get out here more often.” Annie gave a light giggle before sitting on a bench not too far from them. ”What have you been up too Enzo?” Annie thought that this was the time for them to catch up. After all, she wasn’t in the spotlight anymore.

It was all on Nixie.
