three.

three cannons, three less heartbeats in this desolate arena. the cannons were loud, and disruptive, shaking and tearing apart the overcast sky with each boom. with each death, you sigh a breath of relief  -  it's a mounting weight lifted from your shoulders.

one less person you have to kill to get back to district two. you aren't even sure why'd you want to go back, the strauss mansion was never much of a home for you.

not a prison, but a cage.

trapped behind a name that wasn't yours, strauss. trapped behind a faux smile and family. trapped behind siblings that trained to kill one another. brother, sister, killer. there was no difference.

though, perhaps there was freedom in death.

perhaps, but no. you shake the thoughts from your head, there's no place for that now. you're here and while there is a pain, a guilt that sprouts itself inside your heart, it's the animal in you, the hunger in you that drives your will to survive.

it's the wolf in you.
