Barking Up the Wrong Tree // [Elvena + Cantara, Day 6]

It's not long after she has departed from Chichi's body that she senses the wolf following in her wake. The smell of the beast alone is capable of thwarting the ambush, but she's cocky enough to wait and hear the footfall of the girl chasing her on all fours before starting to kick off into an actual sprint. That's half the fun for the predator, after all; to see the doe before it darts off into the woods.

But little does Cantara know, there is nothing about Elvena that could ever be associated with the word prey. Granted, the tribute is just as persistent to hunt her down as she had been to nip at Chichi's heels at every given opportunity. The girl from One tries to dart down a hidden path, obscured by a thicket of briars, but she's lead herself to a dead end. Eventually, she runs into a gnarled white tree sinking into the damp soil, bleached of its nutrients and branches stripped of its leaves.

She turns to watch Cantara breaking into the clearing, having the audacity to bark at her. As always, her face gives nothing away, a cold and even sneer that says, who the hell are you to me? The answer is no one / a threat / a thing that will inevitably cease for me to win. She takes a step back, spine against the cool bark of the tree. She's considering her next words when the wolf-girl huffs and puffs, "I am going to eat you."

Smirking, she digs her nails into the wood and tilts her head to the side. "Oh, so you can speak. You just choose to look utterly ridiculous because it's your free will. Got it." Quickly, and with all the agile grace of her heightened abilities, she scales the trunk of the tree and secures a spot for herself in a little nook between two large, creaking branches. She gazes impassively, albeit a little smugly, down at Cantara from her perch, not sure of where she can go from here but all too grateful to be above. As always.

"But either way, no. I'm much too bitter for you to swallow."
