Every great main character starts from humble beginnings. I mean, look at Ash Ketchum - the legend that he was! He slept through his alarm Day One and got stuck with a Pikachu as a starter. (Of course, Pikachu's were all the rage for like, twenty years after he won the World Champs. Personally I think they're overrated.)

Combusken and I have come a long way from our Day One, in which the incidents that shall not be spoken about in this household happened. It's a rule! Well. I decided that it was a rule. Mom and Dad simply cannot mention them, ever, else I start screaming and Combusken sets fire to the kitchen curtains as a distraction.

So I pretend like it never happened. It being getting my ass beat by a twelvie and a single Vulpix, Lileep loafing around refusing to obey me, Torchic getting absolutely beat down by a Quick Attack, running home screaming and crying, realising nobody was home, running to Mom's gym, interrupting a live gym battle and wailing about a Vulpix through sobs until she pulled me by the ear off-camera and gave me a lecture. Yeah. Humble beginnings. And Mom said I needed an extra helping of it!

Dad just laughed, said they'd streamed the whole thing live to his gym too. But he did get me an Alolan Vulpix for my fifteenth birthday!

After that I decided to take a sabbatical and do some training at home, which had absolutely nothing to do with being unable to show my face in the tall grass without being mocked incessantly by kids both older and younger than me. Nope! I decided to dedicate that year to learning - a miracle in Mom's eyes, 'cause I sure as hell hadn't done a single piece of homework in the fourteen years prior to. I finally learned about type differences, that Pokemon need to trust you before they can fight for you, the difference between Oran and Leppa berries. Y'know, the basics!

Plus I managed to catch a few more 'mons and train them up too. Now I've got a whole fleet of them! Combusken even evolved - I cried happy tears that day! He can do a real mean high-kick, wa-chow, so don't even THINK about mentioning my first stint on live TV.

My next goal is to become so powerful I'll be able to find that little Vulpix brat and take her down once and for all - with an audience! She won't know what hit her. I've got like, TWO water types in my PC storage now!

Knock knock knock on the door and I know who that is, big ol' brute that is my big brother. He's taller than he was last year, UGH! Stop that! But I'll catch up to him. Maybe. Perhaps. If miracles are granted 'round these parts.

"Excellent!" I beam, Pokeballs spillin' out my pockets. "I got a bunch more and they're all over Level 10 this time!"
