happenstance | niko, day 5

Autumn's body falls to the ground and a canon fires. Elm's a mess, no longer focused on seeing how intensely they can hurt Niko. Theo and Francine are distracted. It's the perfect opportunity, one he wished he had before he had even jumped into the fight.

He had proven he could fight without giving in to fear, but now it's time to run. And run he does, or at least hobble to the best of his ability. The pain in his chest grew with each step, and his jaw hung loosely. It took all of his effort to simply close it as he moved farther away from the violence and bloodshed.

Two people had died. In the distance, another two canons fire as he runs, and he wonders who could have been killed. Maybe someone was looking out for him and he'd see Itzal's or Mirage's face up in the sky. It would be some solace to see them there despite his wishes to scream and run his sword through them.

Bean appears once again now that the fighting has departed, keeping pace with Niko's hobble. He wants to say something to his only friend to reassure it, to let it know that it's going to be okay, but he can't. Physically, his mouth was still struggling to work properly and his chest heaved with heavy sighs of pain.

After being certain he made good distance from the bloodthirsty tributes and that he had no pursuers, he drops to the ground. Opening his pack, he rummages through it with one hand, the other on his jaw to keep it still. He grabs the mysterious drink he had found the day prior on the cliff top labeled For Your Health and downs it. Wincing at first at the pain shooting through his jaw, he's able to swallow the foul-tasting drink.

Almost instantly, as if like magic, the potion works wonders. He can feel his jaw stitching itself back up and his bones beginning to mend. After a few minutes of relaxation and wishes that they had this back home in five, he's able to look down at Bean and give an admonished grin.

"That's a lot better," he whispers to his beast as it glows in time with the concoction.

He leans his head back on the rock and lets out a deep breath. His chest still twinges in pain, but it's no longer agonizing. At least Elm will have a harder time killing him now if they go hunting.
