Hello all! As you've been told through several mediums at this point, the 9th Games will not feature the site's traditional combat system. We will still be rolling dice, and tributes will still be dying, but for the sake of clarity while still avoiding spoilers of the Games themselves, I wanted to come on and explain, in barest terms, how the games will work!
Firstly, a 24-hours posting rule is in effect. If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to post within 24 hours when it is your turn, it is your responsibility to let the gms or the junior gms know so that preparations and adjustments can be made. Otherwise, tributes who fail to post within 24 hours of owing a post will take an automatic +8 damage and be skipped for the round. All tributes will be notified ahead of the deadline each time it gets close to passing, and all tributes who fail to post within 24 hours of it being their turn will be given ONE (and only one) warning. After that damage applies.
As already mentioned by Mattio in the official Schedule Thread, the tributes will first be evenly split into four fights of six tributes, based on initiative, from highest to lowest. Each fight will operate independently from the others. Tributes using either of the following mechanics may end up in the same fights, the point is for them to be able to function alongside one another.
NOTICE: IF YOU ARE A TRIBUTE WHO IS INTERESTED IN POTENTIALLY WINNING THE 9TH HUNGER GAMES, READ THE FOLLOWING:
Every round will have a set "threshold" number which the tributes must try to roll against and beat. These threshold numbers are pre-determined, and cannot be modified or changed. However, the threshold number will rise with each round, making continued survival more difficult for everyone who manages to make it farther in the game.
Rather than rolling to attack at the end of their posts, tributes will roll a 1-100 ranged dice. If the number they roll is higher than the stated threshold number for the round, they survive the round. If not, they die.
Also, to ensure advancement in the Games and to cope with realism, at the end of each round in a given fight, a gm will post rolling a flat randomized 5-8 damage on all tributes in that fight. This means that damages each round may differ some from fight to fight. This is okay. This is the point! Hehe
Once the round in which we've reached top twelve ends, all four fights will be converged into one fight. There will be no posting order, but every tribute will be required to post at least once per round. At the end of every turn, a gm will still post in the fight, giving everyone left a flat 5-8 damage per round.
If all living tributes left happen to die in the same turn, either by failing to roll above the threshold number, or by exceeding 40 damage, the person who rolled the highest number on their most recent attempt will be revived and declared the winner. Otherwise, the winner is the last person alive!
NOTICE: IF YOU ARE A TRIBUTE WHO CANNOT WIN THE 9TH HUNGER GAMES (OR ARE NOT INTERESTED IN WINNING THE 9TH HUNGER GAMES) READ THE FOLLOWING:
Due to the highly randomized effects this Games will have, simply leaving it to fate and hoping for the best is a bit nerve-wracking. However, separating you guys entirely defeats the purpose of you guys getting to participate in the Games. The solution is the following! Victor tributes who are reaped will not have a choice and must use this system, however if you do not want to risk incidentally winning otherwise, please use this system instead of the one above!
Every round, tributes who are not interested in winning/who cannot win will roll a 1-20 dice at the end of their post. Much like trap rolls in a modern Games, each number will correspond with personalized entries written by the gms (Mattio and Kaitlin) and spanning in damage from 4-8. This damage will be applied at the end of each round in addition to the flat 5-8 damage everyone else takes in the fight. This allows you to still post alongside the other tributes at the same rate, while sustaining injuries at a slightly quicker pace.
As well, at of the end of the round in which we reach top twelve, all tributes who cannot win/do not want to win will succumb to their injuries and die. This does not necessarily mean the tributes will die at or near 12th place. In the simulations I ran, tributes who used this system usually placed somewhere in the 8th-14th region.
If there are any additional questions, please feel free to message [GM] EKRAM NOVARA | mattio , ruby wolfe [d2] kaitlin. , or myself asap, either through Slack or here on the site through personal messages and we will get back to you asap!
