Standing in a field of grazing cows and wanderous sheep, I turned my gaze toward the horizon in the north. Right now, at the very edge of the afternoon, the sun began to slowly fall and release the darkness of the night. The sky was now an orange hue, extremely beautiful. I looked at all the animals before me, who didn't take any of the glamor that came from the sunset. They were so unintelligent, unaware of anything that happened around them. Sometimes I mocked them, but most of the time I was jealous of their carelessness. I had always wanted to be without a problem in the world, to be oblivious to all the trouble and strife around me. But that probably won't ever happen. What they say is wrong; humans are anything but animals.
I began to tidy all my farming tools and put them in the lone shed that stood in the middle of the meadow. I would soon head for our cottage off of the meadow, where I would relax and spend the night before a whole round of tedious work in the farm. It was sort of boring and hard, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Caring to animals brought me joy, and the satisfaction of knowing that I was helping my family.
Thinking was a great part of my daily life. While tending to the prosperous farms of District 5, I always thought about many topics. I become a sort of thinker; a philosopher. There would always be random thoughts in my mind. One such thought was that I never even thought of what went on outside the District. Of course, I knew of the annual Hunger Games, and of all the murder and trouble that went on there, but besides that I never focused on what was happening in other Districts. I just focused on my work and the animals.
Sometimes it felt like I was in a box, but what could I do? There was nobody else to release me from it...
