I opened my eyes, to see the musky damp room I was sleeping in. It wasn't much, just a 2 roomed house with a small kitchen area and a small old worn out television. I'd lived here all my life. It wasn't the richest home in the Seam.
But it was home
I rolled onto my back, letting out a heavy tired breath. My father must have gone to walk because his heavy, smoke damaged weezing was absent from the house. I was alone. Sitting I looked round the room, my fathers bed made neatly; the brown criss cross patch quilt tucked into the old rusting frame. Wind whistled through the cracks in the dusty damp ebony wooden window frame sending a sharp shiver down my spine. I shook, nibbling on my lip slightly. It may be summer, but it sure doesn't seem like it I thought.
Throwing my covers aside I stood and walked over the cold damp floor to the window. I inhaled the air, smelling the wetness of wood. Ironically my favourite smell. I placed my pale palm against the greyness of the condesation of the window, stareing out into the blue scene of District 6. A peacekeeper strutted past the window, in his crystal white suit; his black boots shining with water. I despised Peacekeepers. They were the worst thing about Panem, they had no morals. Barbaric, they are. Just like the Games. I turned startled, hearing the television switch on.
"Good Morning Panem" A shrill capitol voice sounded.
Just another announcement from the capitol about the Games I thought. Maybe another games has come and gone
Deep in gut I prayed that it hadn't ended. Because that meant another Reaping would happen soon. And I could be next... I shook my head, realizing I'd be late if I didn't get dressed. Going over to a splintering chest of draws, I pulled the top draw open.

I pulled out the wooly, scratchy fabric which was my school clothes. I slipped out of my night gown and into the pale blue round collard cotton shirt and chocolate brown skirt. Turning to the speckled mirror that rested precariously on a bent nail that jutted out the wood, I began fixing my hair. I could see why most people thought I was pretty, I had pale skin and freckles unlike the other girls in District 6. They all had dark hair and a peachy complexion. Which some guys preferred to my snowy white skin. My farther always commented on how I looked like my mother, and how I was just like her.But she's dead, isn't she I always told myself.
I walked into the living area, and glanced at the old clock in the corner.7 it read, the ticking making a melody with the rain on the slated roof.

"Oh how I loathe you rain.....why can't you just go away?" I muttered to myself as I poured boiling water from my father's kettle into a bowl of oats. The warm savoury smell wafted through the steam making my stomach churn at the thought of food. Oats weren't the best meal, but better than nothing at all. After consuming my minor bowl of breakfast I grabbed my satchel and thick leather rain coat- also putting my worn down leather plimsoles on my blistered feet- before heading out the door.
The air was musty as I walked to school, and visability was limited due to the thick fog like cloud that rolled around the streets. After 2 or 3 junctions and corners of dark thin streets, I began to arrive in the richer part of the District. Houses here, were much cleaner and made of better materials than the homes in the seam. Bakers, Doctors, Butchers and teachers lived here. All the people with a better proffesion than my father. He always told me if I was lucky enough to marry one of the butchers sons that I would end up here. If only...
After turning down a few streets I reached the main square, here sat the Justice building. Its tall dark structure sticking out through the fog. I didn't stare at it to long, I hated it. I bit down on my lip nervously as I reached a busy street. Mainly my school mates walking to school. They all wore dark coats too, except the richer kids. They had navy or brown rain coats. I edged through the crowd, clutching my satchel close to my chest.
I hoped that no one would touch or talk to me. I was awkward like that. Knowing my luck one of the boys who fancied me from the upper classes, would try to make conversation. Then I would stumble over my words and blush scarlet as he grinned at me. And when I failed to talk properly like the other girls, he would become un-interested and leave me alone. Which was the way I liked it.
I looked over my shoulder at all the people behind me, before I accidently tripped on a loose stone and tumbled into the person in front of me. [/font]
