I was never really calm so, I suppose, my heartbeat never fasten. It was already that way. When the lion man announced that some would die, I couldn’t help but fear for my life. I thought there was nothing to lose. A life is really something a person would not wish to lose. I understand the loss of animals’ lives but a human life was too precise. Unlike the Hunger Games, I wasn’t expecting people to die. And now, well, I wasn’t the hunter I have grown to know. I am just a scared little girl in the fear of her life.
I was lead to a gate. My fate lays behind that door. Will there be animal or nothing? If there wasn’t anything, how will my little, crippled brother react? Will he cry or, hopefully not, rejoice my death? Surely he wouldn’t be happy I was dead. I am his protector. Without me, he would live the rest of his life in fear of hard-hitting words and mind crippling comments. There was no way he would survive without my care. So, if there were no animal in my zone, there wouldn’t be just one person dead. There would be two.
The moment the gate closed behind me was the same that the little girl disappeared and the hunter made her appearance once again. Without me, my brother would obvious perish so there was my thing worth fighting for. At the moment, I feel as if I would take on any challenge. If I was to survive to the end and the surprise twist was that I had to kill the remaining person, I could do it. If it meant seeing my little brother again, I would murder another human being. But I do hope it does not result to such a thing.
It didn’t occur to me that my hand was gripping tight on a weapon. It was a bow. Such a great thing a bow was. It was, obviously, my weapon of choice. I am pretty sure it was every hunter’s choice. It is such a marvelous thing. Brilliantly created and light: This is my weapon. Smiling, I gripped even tighter. I pulled an arrow from the container and clipped it into place. Then, obviously, I waited for my prey to make its appearance. That is, if there was any prey to wait for. I pray there is.
And for once in my life, my prayers were answered.
As I took another step in the forest, the mixture of leaves and sticks crushed beneath my boot; thus making a rapid moving animal to be reveled. I knew what it was the moment it took off in the bushes. A rabbit. An arrow was in hand before I even realized it. Well, I didn’t realize I drew back an arrow until I was releasing. I was in the a deadly game and my instincts make me do things I don’t realize. Like running after a small animal and casting an arrow.
