A day at the 'office' OPEN TO ANYONE

I wake up to the sound of a whine, coming through my window. My eyes shoot open and I realize, I'm face down on my bed, feet at my pillow and head on the end, foot dangling loosely off the edge. Groaning I sit up, hand over my bad eye. After I sit up, I tilt my head back, hands holding me up, as I look upside down at my living alarm clock. Enchant, my black and white horse is poking her head in the broken window. I know what she's trying to say. Get up and feed me peasant! I give her a glare and reach for the small pile of baby carrots under my bed.

Shoving one baby carrot in her mouth, I stand up and throw on a green, frilly dress. Looking in the mirror, I let my hand brush gently through my long, ginger hair. Bolting out my bedroom door, I rush down the hall of my one-floor house and into the small kitchen. My dads passed out on the table with some bread in front of him. Probably worked late. I walk over and gently give his head a kiss, then dash out the door.

Excited as I am, I know I'll make all the horses crazy with how fast I'm moving. I stop, taking a breath right outside the stable door. I feel my toes squish in the mud and I relax, enjoying it for a minute before I realize, hey wait! I didn't put on shoes! Ignoring that, I slowly open the stable door. Five horses are there. Enchant is out on the yard. She didn't come back in yet? I feel the morning sun beating down on my head as I walk out of the stable. I can't just let the horse run away... Shading my eyes, I walk down the way, to wards the forest.

My dress snags on branches that I accidentally run into. I can feel my feet getting splinters every time I step on a log. I give up on holding my hair out of my face and let it fall over my bad eye. I remember when it used to be blue... I'm granted a moment of terror when my foot slips and I slide down a hill. Covering my head with my arms I curl up as I slide down. Luckily, I had stayed on my feet. I stand up and awkwardly stumble on my ankle. I look up, the sun on my face. I'm out of the forest...? I slip to the ground and grab my ankle. Why was it hurting so much?!

My eye's widen, in shock when I hear a voice. My head flickers down, hair covering my eye. "Just, looking for something..." I say voice shaking. I tuck the hair covering my good eye, behind my ear, in one swift movement. My stomach tightens as I look up at who ever.

Turns out, it's a dude. Good thing my bad eye's hidden, cause it twitched the moment I see the knife. "What the hell do you mean 'damn'? I'm sorry I didn't dress up more. I didn't realize I would be expected to look my best while falling down a hill." I say, jumping to conclusions.

Trying to get a better look at this guy, I let my eyes look up at his face. My hand on my ankle loosens and my shoulders drop. Those were quite the eyes. Green and shimmering in the sun. How could I be so rude to him? "Sorry, I'm just... I lost my horse..."

I slap my hand into his and pull myself up, using my good leg. I try putting my foot down on the ground and say, "Well, prince charming," I wince, sentence stopping for a moment, due to the weight of my foot on the ground. I swallow, then clear my voice. "I found you... Or the other way around." Dusting myself off, then put my hands on my hips, scanning his eyes. Was he being smart with me or what?

I decide to give him a chance, lightening up a bit. "I don't know really... My ankle hurts but, other than that, I'm fine." I say, pressing the middle finger of my hands into my palms, at my sides. I have my hurt foot hovering in the air, over the grass. I suddenly feel a rush of fear jolt into my system. I look around. The trees seem... Closer than before? I stumble for wards, forgetting this guy is here.

I knock right into him then bounce back wards, blinking. My hair floats to the side as I maneuver myself back wards one leg. Keeping my eyes shut, I know I have to get out of here. I open both my eyes, and regret it immediately. I can't see the dark shadow of my hair over my blind eye anymore. I do what I can to cover it up. Shut my eyes tight look down, hair covering my face. "Sorry, for running into you." I choke out.

I cross my arms, looking down, digging my fingers into just below my shoulder. I can feel myself shaking. The forest... It's closing in on me... I think he's about to make me look up so, by reaction I almost yell, "It's nothing! You didn't see anything!" Bowing my head further when I said it. He didn't do anything... Stop blaming him. He did absolutely nothing wrong, in fact, he was even trying to help.

"No, I just... It hurts when I'm in small spaces..." I say full of hesitation. I knew it was gross to look at a blind eye. For some reason I feel I can trust him. First, he actually helped me up. Second, he seems sincerely concerned about me.

"I'm sorry... It's just, no one's seen my eye since I was little. I don't want to get my dad in trouble, so I didn't go to the doctors." I say gathering my courage, I release my arms back to my sides and look him straight in the eye, knowing my blind eye is fully exposed. It felt like something was missing in my life. It felt so weird not seeing through two eyes anymore. I know what my blind eye looks like. Completely white with the faint tint of blue. I feel myself choke up. Did this have to be so emotional?

He looked angry. Almost angry, if not. Had my dad done this to me? Sure, I had scratched my eye to this but, he was the one who locked me in the closet. He was the one who told me to shut up when I cried to him. When I plead to him. He was the one who gave me my claustrophobia. My cheeks get warm and my eyes, wet. A tear slips out my blue eye and I don't bother to wipe it away.

I feel completely ridiculous. Like a little kid but, this guy seemed concerned. I stand there, crying. It hurt, accepting the fact my drunken father had done this. I blink back anymore tears I have in store. Water is precious. I let out a shaky laugh, filled with my crying voice, trying to cheer myself up. That, and try to appear like less of a weak person. I nod once, "...Yes, he did..."

"Bastard!" Then he looks around. He looks so angry through my foggy, with tears, eye. To my surprise, he grabs me and his arms are around me. He's so tall compared to me but, I manage to bury my face in his shoulder, one arm around him, the other under his arm, hand shielding my face from anyone who would be around, watching. I hold on to him tighter, knowing I probably seemed ridiculous. My tears are soaking into his worn shirt, coming faster.

Showing me his missing toe, I can help but choke out a laugh through tears and turn my head back on him, forehead in the middle of his chest. I look down at his foot, laughing out of relief. "...You didn't have to show me that but, that's..." I sniffle, laughing. "...That's so funny!" I didn't mean it's hilarious funny but, more of a thank god I'm not the only one, funny.

I take a step back, beaming at him. "Thank you." I say, wiping the last of the tears. "So, do you think I can get your name?"

I woke up to a thud. I looked out my tiny window, and I see another wind storm kicked up and was flying rocks up on our tin roof. It sounded as if it was raining. I sighed and looked at our worned down clock. 11:39. I slept in. I cursed under my breathe. None of my family was awake yet. I slowly walked out of our cramped bedroom, to the kitchen. Getting a small apple for a snack, I didn't bother to take care of the animals. Today, I will take a day off. I walked into the barn and mounted up my horse, Nocturne. My foot placed on the step handle, as I called it. I really don't know the name of it.

I try to go for a walk with my horse everyday. But, sometimes my farm work consumes up the whole day. Nocturne trotted towards a random place I had never been before. I halted her to a stop as I saw two people in front of me.

"Sorry." I apologized for getting in their way.
