A Walk in the Seam [Mocking James]

James caught the glare Ava gave him and chuckled to himself. I guess she still thinks I'm going to try something She finally reached him, jogging to the right of him. "Where are we going?" she asked shortly. James ponder two things. Why does she not talk? She keeps everything so short that it makes it hard for me to understand her. Guess that's the point... He also wondered where they would go. He hadn't really thought of that yet. A walk just seemed like a nice thing to do at the time.

"Well, I hadn't really thought of that... Must we need to have a destination?" he said as he looked at her and smiled again. James was enjoying being able to converse with someone and hoped that the girl would talk more.

"You are not like the rest of them, are you?" Ava abruptly blurted out. James stopped moving, standing still in the middle of the street. He turned himself and looked at her. "What do you mean? Who is them? The kids in the Seam? No, I'm not like them at all..." he said quietly, letting his sentence drift off. He waited for a minute before talking again.

"Would like to lead the way?" he said nicely, letting out yet another small grin. He didn't understand why he kept doing this. There was no need for these smiles, yet he couldn't contain them. I need to stop. I'm losing my badass edge. he joked to himself.

Dammit, how is she better then me at studying people? She has a better of understanding of me then I do of her! James thought to himself bitterly, with just a hint of annoyance. Though he didn't show any of these emotions on his face as he thought this. To anyone looking at him, they would think he was perfectly fine. "And just where did you have in mind?" he said while rotating his arm to get the blood flowing in his arms. He gave her a quick grin and leaned up against a near by wall, waiting for her to respond.

James suppressed a laugh. When Ava had pouted, it looked so...odd? Maybe that was not the word, but the facial expression she had used did not fit her. Not at all. She stood still for little bit, James thought that she must be rummaging through her head to think of places to go. Her eyes slightly widened when she knew where she was going to take James. "Come on, get walking."
she said to him flatly. She moved her hair out of her eyes and proceeded to walk down the street, not waiting to see if James was behind her or not.


He jogged up to her side and asked her "Any hints to where we might be going off to?"

As James walked to Ava's side, he noticed her quick hand movement to her jacket pocket. He thought for half a second that she was about to attack with some weapon, most likely a knife, that she had concealed. But she stopped as quickly as she started. Must just be her nerves. Jumpy little thing, isn't she? James thought to himself humorously. He noticed a noticed a the smallest beginnings of a smile grace her lips. It'd seemed that she had noticed what she had done and laughed at it to herself.

"A place." Ava told James, keeping wherever they were off to a secret. "Oh, a place? you do seem to have a way with descriptions, Ava." James replied jokingly. "Tell me about yourself." she asked him. With that sentence, a small frown crossed James face, but it vanished as quickly as it had came, his face returning to his previous demeanor. "Well, like long walks on the beach and dancing in the rain." he said sarcastically joking. "What would like to know about me?" he said with another smile.

"Who are you? Your family? Yourself?" she asked him, trying to create conversation, or at least some small talk, with James. He involuntarily winced when she said the word "family". "Who am I? Well that's a pretty big question. I'm James Austin Mocking, Seam kid extraordinaire!" James lets out a laugh. "Family..." His mind races as memories flood into his brain Family, when was the last time I had one of those? It'd been so long since the last time he had a living relative with him. He remembered being so young, watching his brother pass away at the hands of a Career from District 1.

They had done this to him. they had this to every child in the Seam who wasn't able to go to bed with being hungry. They made them live in fear; the fear that at any moment they could be wiped off the face of the planet and no one would give a damn. A sudden rage built inside him.

He was suddenly thrown out of his memories by his anger. "I have no family." he said shortly, his face stony, not showing any of the hatred that boiled inside of him. He shook his head. "How about you?" he asked quietly.

The sudden comforting touch from Ava was unexpected for James. Her personality wasn't the kind that comforted people, but he still appreciated it. James didn't really like talking about his family and the injustices that had be done to him as a child. "The games?" Ava stated, not bothering to even question. It was obvious though, James would never hide or be ashamed at how his brother died. He was proud that Kyle, his brother, had went into the arena and stood tall. He never gave up on trying to win. In the end, as a spear pinned him to a tree and the blood flowed from the the gouge in his stomach, he remained strong. "You can kill a man, but not an idea." were his last words before he passed on.

James looked at her, staring into her eyes, the same colour as most of the peoples in the Seam, gray. "Yes, my brother died from the Games." he said silently. When he asked her about her family she replied with "Two brothers, a useless mother and father. I look out for myself.....period." That was sad to James. A family who worked hard to feed their children, yet still were not able to was one thing. It was an entirely different situation when it was a family who would do nothing for their own flesh and blood. There were, sadly, a good amount of family's like this in District 12.

"Two brothers?" James asked, not even bothering to bring up her parents, knowing it would lead to no good. "Are they....ok?" he asked tentatively, not knowing if they had been lost like his own brother. He couldn't help but smile at the last part. "You never have someone to talk? To be around and help as well as vice versa?" he asked her
