When Does One Lose Hope In What They Want?

The gas lights that flickered throughout the room barely illuminated anything, almost leaving all of his classmates and his crack-happy teacher in the near dark. Can't they afford new lights for this one room? Out of all of the problems they can fix, they choose to ignore this one big problem? Great priorities. Rolling his eyes slightly as he looked over his notebook that was flipped to one page. It was filled with ideas for his sewing company that was down the street. They expected at least one idea a week, but like the little over achiever he is, Destry did two every week, and extra design being used for the next one.

Suddenly, the teacher, Mrs. Theisen looked over all of the students in the slightly dark room and hollered at them to pay attention. The gossiping girls and the flamboyant boys snapped to attention, directing their eyes over at the skinny woman who taught their Panem history class. Slowly scanning the field of teenagers, she decided that they were all paying attention and began to speak about what they would be doing for the next week.

[/size] "Okay, guys. If you all remember, I taught you about the history of the old world of the United States. Now, what I would like you to do is - with a partner - create a mini poster-board about the ups and downs about the old country's economy. I will be picking your partners."

Mrs. Theisen looked all around the room, picking one person and matching him or her with another, and doing the same over and over again. He wasn't paying attention, so he missed the name of his partner. After she repeated the names, he discovered that Amor Placek and him were partners. Looking over the room to find the boy she had picked for him, he saw the guy sitting at his desk. He swore that his greenish-blue eyes were looking over at him too. I know him... At least, I think I do. Am I right or am I wrong? Ugh, deja vu.

Departing his place in the seat, he passed through a crowd of girls to reach the boy, who was sitting there at his hard-wood desk. He didn't talk immediately, so in place on the silence, Destry spoke. "Hey, I'm Destry. I'm your partner." Looking the boy up and down, he examined him and made an impression of him. He seemed quiet, more self-reserved. Probably an introvert. Slowly, he put his hand out about his desk, expecting Amor to take it. [/blockquote] [/justify]

The boy pulled out his hand and told Amor his name. His name was Destry.

Amor stared at his hand for a while examining him. He looked nice, but looks can be decieving. He could be a jerk. So forth Amor judged him at first-hand.

"Amor." He told him and shunned Destry's hand.

Amor only thought he was probably a jerk because most of the hot guys he had met and were nice to him, ended up picking on him because they found out that he was gay, and so on.

Yes, Amor thought he was really, really good-looking. Can't blame they guy. Destry's beautiful brown hair just made Amor's mouth water.

Shaking his head, Amor took a mental note not t think of him like that.

"Alright let's get started on this project. Maybe afterschool we can work on it too. I want to get it done and over with." Amor said not even daring to look at the handsome boy's eyes.

he did really want to get it over with though. He wanted to not have to deal with the fact that this boy, since he probably was straight, was the very person he had been crushing on.

Amor instantly ignored the handshake and just said his name. Slightly embarrassed, Destry put his hand in his pocket sheepishly. Then, without even looking into his eyes to be polite, he turned his head away and soberly yet in a snarky way said that they should just get it started and get it over with. Destry was confused and slightly deterred for a moment by his quite unwelcoming behavior. Shaking it off his shoulders, he just looked at Amor and began to reach in the desk next to him for a textbook. Reaching in another desk, he got a textbook and handed it to Amor, slightly brushing his arm by accident. He mumbled his apologizes and ripped open the book. Looking at Amor in the corner of his eye, he flipped to the page about the economy.

He skimmed over the five pages of the textbook, refreshing his memory with the information of the old Panem before them. Destry read all about how the old presidents basically messed up the economy and basically caused the United States to fall. Then a bunch of the remaining people formed Panem, and there they were today. After he got done reading the last page, he looked over at Amor and tried to lighten the resentment state of mind that seemed to take place around them.

When Destry grabbed his arm Amor freaked out on the inside, and stayed calm on the out. You have no idea how much Amor just wanted to kiss Destry's lips off his face. He was tempted, but not in this school. Things in this school bounced off the walls and got to everyone as quick as the blink of an eye.

Though, Amor thought, I could bring him back with me to the house,,,and we could- Amor didn't even want to finish that sentence. He knew it would never work. It was one of those crushes that would never work out.

Amor then thought to himself, Thank goodness the lights here are so dim and crappy, and so is all the funniture and paint, because if they weren't, the mood would be SO much better and I am not kidding.

Soon after Amor thought about the room's atmosphere, Destry spoke about how crappy the United States were back then, which was followed by a nervous laugh which to Amor was absoloutely ADORABLE.

But he could not give in. He looked away shrugged and said "Yeah, I guess...but it's better than what we have going on right now. The Hunger Games and all that crap" which totally killed ANY mood there was.

Shortly after the bell rang and Amor realized this was his chance. "You want to go to my place to finish the work and get it over with?" He asked as blandly as he could.

It was the end of the school day by the time they had finished reading the section on the economy, the bell rang throughout the school, telling all of the little demons of teenagers that the school day was over and they would do whatever the heck they wanted. When Amor spoke to him, it nearly scared the crap out of him, as Amor hadn't spoken in quite awhile and he didn't know who it was. Then, the boy with the large blue eyes suggested that they go over to his place to finish the project. It sounded reasonable, but it would feel awkward to be at someone's house. Someones house who he never even spoke to.

"Uh, well, I don't want to intrude... how about we just go to the park and work there?" He wanted to go to the park partially because he could think better there, but also because he didn't know him well enough. He could be a deranged psychopath, for gods sake! He also felt like he was intruding for some reason, even though he was invited by Amor. Going to the park just felt right, to be honest. Nodding his head towards the back door where a whole rush of people weren't there, he walked slowly and exited, allowing Amor to follow. [/blockquote] [/justify]

Destry hadn't wanted to go to his house. This was understandable since they barely knew each other. Amor knew it was right, for all Destry knew, Amor could be some lunatic preying on classmates.

So forth, Amor had followed Destry, who seemed quite exited to work on the project, out of the school.

They had started walking to the park and for some reason it was dead silent. It was just awkward.

The silence was actually quite calming. He didn't want to break the silence so he just looked around. There was a light cool breeze that was blowing, and the trees were dancing majestically. The birds were singing their beatiful melodious songs that were just absoloutely magnificant. The feel of Amor's feet pounding into the nice warm ground felt great as the rest of his body was quite cool. Soon the breeze started getting harder sending chills down Amor's spine. Amor then looked at Destry. The wind was blowing forward onto Destry's back, highlighting his gorgeous muscles on his back.

Walking to Destry's side while the bird's melodious chirping grew faint, he kept pace w ith him and looked down. He took a quick glane at his biceps and had a mental squeel of delight. They were quite big. He decided to flex himself because he wanted to impress Destry at least since he knew it wouldn't work out.

Finally they had made it to the park, it was empty. The only beings there were its native inhabitants. The birds, trees, and bugs. There were no tables so Amor started leading Destry to an empty clear spot that was flat and perfect. Setting down the books, and sitting down in a comfortable position, he said "Well I guess we should get this done and over with" He said with a little friendly smile to give Destry a little friendliness.

The duo sat down in a flat space of grass where Amor immediately dropped down into a comfortable position, and then invited Destry to take a seat with him so that they could work together. Destry lackadaisically dropped his stuff in the green, and collapsed next to Amor. Ripping the textbook and a blank notebook out of his bag, he placed it in front of them and turned to the right page of the book. He tried to think of what was wrong with the economy, but it slipped his mind, just as everything else does. Destry couldn't focus, thinking about what had happened an hour ago.

When he first walked over to his desk and talked to him, he was unwelcoming, mean even, as if Destry had wronged him in the past. But according to Destry's memory, he hadn't ever done anything to him. He would talk to Amor sometimes, but he never actually hung out with him or anything. It wasn't that Amor wasn't cool, he just never talked to him. There are some people you talk to, some people you don't. But he wondered what he did wrong to make him resent him when they talked an hour ago. Clearing his throat, he looked Amor in the eyes and asked him about it.

[/size] "Hey Amor? Why is it when I first talked to you, you seemed mad at me or something?"

The way the words left his pale lips made Destry sound slightly frustrated. But then again, he ever so slightly was. He wasn't frustrated at Amor, just the way he rejected him when they had to actually work together on something. Destry didn't know what his problem was, whether it was with him or if he was just upset at that moment, but he wanted to find out, because, well... he was always curious. He always wanted to know the who, what, where, when, and the why. And that's what he was doing now. [/blockquote] [/justify]

When Destry asked the question, Amor paled. He took a deep gulp. What could he even say to him? Tell him that he liked him? Destry would hate him forever. Or at least that is what Amor thought.

He looked around, trying to find a way to get out of this situation. It would be really hard. He needed to find something flawless to avoid this. He couldn't leaave any opening for Destry to question. Everything was silent. It was a dead silence as Amor thought about it. Once he was about to speak but then he just lost the words and his train of thought. Once he tried to change the subject abruptly but it ended in failure.

Then suddenly he thought of it!!
"It was just a mood swing. I was feeling deppressed and I took out on you. I apologize and hope you will forgive me. Also, if you don't mind, I'd rather not talk about it."

He quickly escaped this disaster.

Besides, what could Destry ask him that could reveal his secret?

"Hey you wanna' walk a bit? I just need to stretch and get focused before we start.."

Destry, like the understanding boy he wanted to be, believed the mood swings story. Sure, it was true that most teenagers of this day and age had some emotional shit going down in their bodies. It could be depression, trying to find your true self, whatever. He knew what it was like to go through all of that crazy emotional, as he was currently going through it at that time. He was still in a silent mental battle with himself trying to figure out why girls didn't appeal to him. Of course, he was sure of what his sexuality was, but he didn't know if he was confident enough to actually say so out loud.

He was just about to say that Amor could tell Destry anything and that he wanted to help, but then suddenly Amor got up and invited him to walk to help them focus. Glad for the excuse (because he didn't know how to give advice without being super mushy) he got up and responded to Amor.

[/size] "Thank God you asked that, I was really looking for a reason to stall this." At that moment Destry couldn't tell if he meant "stall the advice" or "stall the project." Maybe both, but at that moment, he really didn't give a shit, he didn't want to do either of those two things. Besides, they had all week to do the project, and that day was Monday.

Getting up and taking a stance next to Amor, the duo consisting of the two began to walk around the field. Everything was silent between the two of them. Awkwardness and silence surrounded them as they slowly paced the green grass of the field around them. Destry wanted to speak, about something, anything to break the silence between them. But at the same time, he didn't want to speak. The air around them was almost... calming. It was relaxing to just be walking with someone. So, as much as he hated to do it, he shut his mouth and just walked with Amor, wondering what to do next. [/justify] [/blockquote] [/size]
