A cool breeze rustled through the falling branches of the old willow, forcing Delilah to pull the sleeves of her pale, yellow jacket farther down her arms. She was leaning against the base of the tree, a sketch pad in her lap, colored with her attempt at capturing the falling snow. It was a silly idea to try to draw in such cool conditions, but Delilah was feeling particularly stubborn. She had come outside simply because it was so pretty, and she didn't plan on leaving this spot until she had captured the day on her pad and paper.
Still, as she huddled under that tree, blowing snowflakes out of her long hair, she couldn't help but long for the warm, chocolate milk that was likely available in her parent's shop. Her eyes closed longingly, daydreaming for warmer weather. The mere idea of warmth was contradictory to her entire purpose of being outside, but it seemed so appealing now that she was among the frosting-coated fields.
Aside from the workers in the mines, and the struggling residents of the Seam, most citizens would be locked in their shops at this time in the day. Delilah had only escaped from work because business had been lacking recently. Not many were wealthy enough to afford their treats, and the rest were simply too busy. No, Delilah could disappear for a few hours without any raised eyebrows or questioning stares. She planned to take full advantage of that free time.
