The Balcony Garden (Masquerade Plot)

Spinner pushed through the balcony doors. The house was flooded of people with masks. You walked through the crowd, trying to locate the people you knew or tried to imagine how the strangers surrounding you looked under their masks. Tonight, he had not wanted to step out of the house. It was a weekend, he was not required to work and he would have rather spent the night with his family like he did every Saturday night. Saturday was family night.
But tonight was a special occasion and Ruby, his sister really wanted to attend the masquerade. Without his attendance, Mr. and Mrs. Cove would not allow it. They were babysitting Jade and the twins were sleeping over at some friend's house.
The cool air hit his lungs and it seemed like he had swallowed ice, it was very refreshing. Winter was beginning to say goodbye and let Spring take over. It was cold but very comfortable, no snow falling down from the dark sky. The moon's light reflected on the pond's water, it was very nice out. The lack of people made him feel more comfortable. Spin was not a antisocial, he enjoyed company but this was appreciated.
He pulled his mask a little to let the air cool down his warm face. Honestly, the accessory made him feel a little claustrophobic. Spinel made his way to the pond, gazing to the balcony's decoration. This house was very elegant, this balcony was perfect for receiving people. He was certain his mother would enjoy having something like this on her property.

Spinner heard the doors open but did not move one single inch, his eyes were now looking past the cage and straight to the moon, the delicate sound of the water and this woman’s heels the only sounds he allowed his ears to hear. It was an odd thing though, the black metal. It was not necessary but if you focused on every other little decoration, the balcony was a very beautiful place to be. The music from inside the house, the loud discussions was pushed from his mind. Ruby was thrilled; she loved the idea of a masquerade and fantasized that she would find her Prince Charming. She believed it was romantic and very mysterious; Spinel wasn’t so sure he agreed. But for one night, he would let her live her fairy tale but tomorrow, they would all be back to reality and no mask would hide their identity.
The girl spoke and he turned around, “That’s alright.” There wasn’t much else he could say, “I’m fairly certain there’s enough room for the both of us here.” He told her, his simple black velvet mask obstructing most of his vision. He could see but hardly as much as he wished. Spin sucked in a little breath, looking at the way her dress hugged that beautifully shaped body. The way her hair was held up gave clear view of her neck, her shoulders. He never knew why but necks, they were his weakness. There was something so sensual, so appealing to them. He simply wanted to kiss that delicate skin. He was weird and he knew it. But some guys loved legs, he loved necks. And this girl had it.
“Wait.” He called out to her and took steps into her direction, “I really don’t mind sharing the balcony.” He smiled at the mysterious beauty hiding behind that mask. “Would you like to accompany me?” He was not close enough to see who she was but her flawlessness was certainly familiar. That voice and the way she stood. That neck. Spinel didn’t know he knew this girl.

The playfulness this gorgeous woman let him see through that smile and those eyes gave him a little rush of excitement. She was enticing him without saying a word, it was thrilling. Perhaps this party was a very good idea, perhaps he could allow himself to take Ruby's approach to tonight-flirting. He was, for obvious reasons, not searching for Prince Charming the way she was. But he wasn't searching for a partner either, or a future wife as his mother so often talked about. He was 19 years old, she believed it was time for him to think of starting a family. But he wouldn't, he had his parent's, his sister's family to take care. They were is family, he didn't need another for now.
Spinel chuckled, ''It might be a cage but it's till the most peaceful area of the whole house, a great place for great meetings.'' He eyed her, yes. It was a very good meeting indeed.
''The official rules of a Masquerade is to never reveal your true identity until the end, if not ever. I thought it was lame before but I can't help but like it right now.'' He took a step closer, no description of his surroundings or the weather could be made because his whole focus was on this one girl.
He reached for her hand, ''It lets me be bold with beautiful women like yourself.'' Spinner lift her hand to his lips and gave it a soft kiss. ''It's very nice to meet you.'' He was a confident person in general but behind a mask, his flirting was more obvious. He had to be. Every action behind a mask had to be more exaggerated.

Spinner blinked a few times and slowly grinned, laughing silently at himself. "I'll be completely honest and tell you that I have no idea what you just said." It was, to him, a very rich language. Though he was educated, there was still so much he could understand. He went to school to learn the essentials of life, what one needed to support his or her family. The basics. "But I will answer to what I think I understand." He watched the beautiful Shakespearean speaker, if that even was the type of language they used during his time. What did a guy like him know about Shakespeare? "Inside is unbearable, it's crowded, it's loud and you constantly have to make sure you're holding yourself right, acting correctly but here is relaxing and possibly the best area to be." He began, "Hence the great place but I suppose you're right for the great meeting thing, great isn't the adjective to use." He teased back with a great big grin that would show her that he wasn't being serious. Who knew how this would end up being but he hoped on the positive.
He tilted his head, eyebrow raising in surprise although she could not see it through his mask. Most expressions were hidden and without them, sometimes conversations could take a different turn. Tone and expression were important. "Not at all, in fact, this is the first time I've spoken to a woman with a mask." He chuckled, shifting his whole weight onto his right leg. Neither of them had moved from their position since he moved forward for that kiss on her hand.
"I see your eyes, your lips, your smile." Spinel began, "I see your body in that beautiful dress, the shape of your face, your neck and shoulders.." He told her with a small smile, his lips unable to forget her neck. It had to slip his lips. "Are you telling me that's not enough to find a woman beautiful? Physically." He added. Because there was more than the physical to a woman's beauty. That, he believed greatly, truly.

A response like that was expected and it made him chuckle, she was far more imaginative than he expected and it made this much better. Much better indeed. Spinel hummed in thought, making his way towards the bench on which she had sat down.
His knee was placed on the opposite end of the stone bench, his legs on the ground balancing his whole body. She had said something clever and now, he had to compete with that. Not very easy, no it was not. "A glass eye isn't so bad, come on." He chuckled. No but really, an eye was an eye, right? Things happened, accidents happened and that was only something rather minor. That didn't fully change someone's beauty, hardly. Actually.
As the mysterious girl went on, he rubbed his lips with his index finger. Wow, that was quite a dilemma, indeed. "I actually don't know how I'd react to that, to be honest. The third eye especially." He chuckled and sat down instead of standing. Spin casually turned towards her direction and crossed his legs, holding his knees up with his crossed arms. He was comfortable right now, why not let go and be himself? There was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
"But I'd like to think that I'd be alright with-the scar. Personality is a very important factor too and you could easily overlook a scar. But for the other-" He made a playful wincing face as he left out the third eye into that 'alright' mix. "That eye you're talking about could potentially be a little freaky, I don't think I'd be able to look away." And that'd freak him out, truly. But he was certain it didn't happen often, if not ever.
How could one have a third eye?

"Hmmm..." Spinner sounded in thought, his upper teeth biting on his lower lip. That was a very good question that he would be able to answer. He just had to find the right words, "It would be tempting and I would probably try to ignore that awful, terrible, plain personality because what human being isn't attracted to physical beauty?" He still held his knees in the crook of his arms, "It is appealing, it is a natural response just like certain female birds are attracted to the most colourful males. Simply for reproductive measures, it's in our bones, or blood to search for what attracts us..." He tried to think some more, his real and more deep beliefs yet to come.
"But I can assure you that very quickly, my eyes would not be so easily pleased." Spinel would be honest with this woman, he could not keep his lip shut. He never could. "A woman without personality or ability to hold my attention through conversation would win me over. I like personality, a woman is nothing without it." That was his beliefs, nothing less.
Spin smiled at her, a grin. "Is my answer a good one? Or do you not agree?" He tried to understand this very amusing lady. She was nice to talk to. Truly.
