Jesse wasn't quite sure how he found himself in the bustle of District Seven's main square, but the fact was that he was there. Whispers of more dead tributes filled his ears, and he didn't like it one bit. It only brought back memories - bad ones - and he didn't need triggering. Not today, anyway. Not here.

Agitated, he politely but steadily made his way through the crowds surrounding the large screens, refusing to watch them. Even the sight of the Capitol seal could turn his slight nudges into shoves - and Jesse wasn't the type of person to get into a fight. At all. Of any kind. A few Peacekeepers wandered about looking bored amongst the chattering crowds as the sixteen year old merged like a zip through the sea of people, headed straight for the woods. It was bad enough here, feeling a little claustrophobic, but his home was just the same. He needed space, needed air.

Out of nowhere, Jesse felt something slam into his side and knock him forwards. The force of the jolt pushed his body abruptly to the side, unable to keep his balance, and the next thing he registered was a searing shock running up his left arm, his body on the concrete. Swearing under his breath, Jesse winced as the tanned skin on his hands grazed against the ground as he tried to sit up again, a little shaken. "The hell?!" he exclaimed, turning his head to search for whatever - or whoever - had knocked him to the ground.

Kane, with hands folded neatly and relaxed in his jacket pocket and a brown eye directed downwards at his shoelaces as if that was the way in front of him. He was lost. Not like he had taken a wrong turn down a never-traveled-on-before street. But mentally lost. That was the one thing he didn’t like about being alone with nobody he knew. He had time to thing. And he would be too lost in thought to do anything but mull over the smallest details of little events.

Pushing around people like he was pushing away his past, he advanced up the street with no destination in mind; no place to go, nowhere to be. Sometimes, people just want to be alone and so they go wherever they feel they need to. In Kane’s case, he felt most alone when he was surrounded by people, in an odd sense of the word. He enjoyed himself being isolated from his friends from time to time. It gave him the gift and curse of thought and memory, which was something he would have loved to forget and just move forward. And some things are just too big to forget, though. Some things always plague a person forever. [/I]

Without thinking, he pushed past someone a bit more powerfully than the others, and that course of action led to a boy, maybe his age, maybe 17 or 18 or so falling into the street as he heard a snap, like a rope had finally taken enough it could handled and then just released. “The hell?!” he exclaimed with obvious anger and a little bit of pain in his voice. Kane, realizing his mistake, jumped into the street and bended down next to him, one of his hands helping him talking. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you. Society really isn’t good for the uncoordinated and unfocused. Here, let me help you up.” [/size] [/blockquote][/justify]

Half-expecting for his aggressor to be long-gone, lost in the crowds of people, Jesse was surprised to find a boy standing over him with an arm to help him up. He looked around about Jesse's age - possibly older - but he couldn't really tell. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you. Society really isn’t good for the uncoordinated and unfocused. Here, let me help you up.” the guy exclaimed, offering a hand, and Jesse smiled in surprise, taking his hand and hauling himself upwards to his feet.

"Thanks!" he answered, taken aback at the boy's politeness and helpful gesture. Sure, Jesse liked to be polite too, as it was the right thing to do, but hardly anyone else seemed to return his gratitude. Brushing off the bits of dusty gravel from his clothes, he tried to test his arm out - finding it sore, but not painful enough to be broken.

"Thanks, again, er..." Jesse paused, not knowing the boy who stood in front if him's name, and feeling a little stupid. I can't go two minutes without making things awkward. Great he thought sourly.

After brushing off some bits and pieces of dirt of rock off his clothes with scraped up hands that had caught the fall of the concrete, Kane warily watched with chesnut perception as the boy he had ever so carelessly knocked over tested out his arm, twisting and turning and surveying trying to find out the extent of the damage that he had caused the boy. Obviously, it wasn’t broken, or else he wouldn’t have been able to move his arm in the way he did. Kane figured the snap sound wasn’t the sound of bones cracking beneath skin, but probably something just popped. Almost like if you twist to the side, you hear cracks in your back. It didn’t necessarily mean that it was broken.

"Thanks, again, er..." The boy that he had previously sent crashing to the concrete paused, realizing that he didn’t know his name, which created a slight awkwardness between them that Kane, being helpful, tried to fix. “Kane. Lockery. Kane Lockery. And your name is?” He asked, trying to prevent himself from launching into thirty different ways of saying sorry which seemed to be the norm for him. “Kane. Lockery. Kane Lockery. And your name is?” the boy asked, and Jesse smiled at his friendliness. He usually found it easier to converse with people who were more open than himself, for Jesse struggled to keep conversation between himself and acquaintances. "Jesse. Jesse Owens" he replied with a grin and a nod of his head. "Sorry about... crashing into you there, by the way. I probably wasn't looking where I was going, anyway. I do that a lot" the brunette breathed, shuffling his foot against the ground subconsciously. He seemed to be doing a lot of that lately - apologising.

But the new, if sudden, conversation had struck Jesse's mind in a way that it focused so much, he now hardly registered the going-on's around him: Games and Tributes and Death seeming to have floated away from his train of thought altogether - if only for a moment. He was usually used to worrying about one thing at a time, grief taking up so much of his head space that he had pushed everything, and everyone, away from him that he felt drained of interaction. Almost foreign - like a familiar face you may have seen years ago, but unable to match with a name. Continuing with a curious raise of his eyebrows, he asked "I don't think we've really met before, do you go to school?" It might be a lousy conversation starter, but Jesse found a sense of comfort with Kane - not something that he could grasp easily from introductions.
