The sun hung over a dull world, adorned with a smoke-gray cloak and tall, dark jewels. Beneath the smog were factories where the warmest of jackets were created and the best of textiles. The foggy ruins of District eight would never serve as perfect for Kaelin, and he cursed the Capitol for poisoning the world with their cruel ways. The Capitol may be high in power, but they were still below the sun. They didn’t rule anything beyond Panem, and even so, they had no control over Kaelin.
The smoke that wreathed around his neck made him cough and wheeze, and he pulled his thick jacket up over his mouth and nose. The apparel clearly wasn’t right for this hot weather, but it was only best. The jacket would protect him from dying of toxic inhalation. Kaelin looked around before ducking into an alley. Spitting out bitter curses, he heaved himself up on top of a silver trash can. For a moment, Kaelin wondered if there was any valuable stuff inside here. Shaking the thought away, he laughed. Like I could make any use out of trash, he thought.
