Trapped By the Rain ((Open))

The rain taps heavily on the glass of the shop. It started coming down about half an hour ago and doesn't look to be letting up any time soon. The street had become nothing but mud and tiny puddles. My walk into the market had been overcast and grey. It had been enough time since the riots for the broken windows to be boarded up and the charred wood cleared out. The blood might have washed away, but everywheere the scars were still evident. The memorial was still scratched and etched into. The Peacekeepers patroled more regularly.

All that, and life still had to go on in District 10. And for me that means visiting the market and getting the things my family needs. I was lucky enough to make it through half my list before the skies opened up. But now I find myself trapped in the general store with a downpour outside. Sitting by the window, I kick the now dried mud from my boots and watch the people outside try to run for cover. They're braver than I am. Or stupider. I can't afford to get sick. Not right now.

But I still have to make it home soon. Sighing, I promise myself I'll wait another ten minutes. If it hasn't let up by then, I guess I'll just get soaked.
