Male.Fifteen.District Six

Untidy, cheap, street rat. These are few of several common insults used to describe a first impression of Pyrian’s appearance. If one thing is certain, it is that Pyrian fails to maintain the quality of his appearance; not only is his hygiene poor the majority of the time, but he carelessly dresses himself with cheap white tank tops, loose jean pants, worn out boots, and will sometimes even stroll the district without a shirt on. Beneath the boring, tattered clothes, is a scrawny, pale thing with little muscle to compensate for his lack of physical self-interest. Like any boy his age, there is enough strength lying within to hold a superior ranking to most women, including his shorter and thinner twin sister, but it is hardly enough to consider labeling the boy a healthy, developed young man. Pyrian cares not about his strength or his level of attractiveness - he doesn’t care much at all, really. Judge him if you wish, it makes no difference to him as long as he can get his way.

Small muscle mass accompanied by the general lack of exercise leaves Pyrian at a slight disadvantage in battle. Strength isn’t his only weakness; he is also slow, uncoordinated, and too loud to hold any bit of stealth. This in combination with his complete deafness leaves him clumsy and vulnerable when defending himself, especially if one were to sneak up behind him. What he lacks in auditory he makes up with eyesight, however. Large, brown irises, and pupils sensitive to the slightest change in illumination, his eyes are what guide him through his world of silence. They can read every pair of lips, detect the softest movements, and catch the most insignificant details. What average people see, Pyrian sees twice as clearly. It is a special ability he fails to realize is out of the norm at all. Silence and clear sight are all he has ever known, and all he will ever understand.

Resting beneath a head of soft brown hair that is either cut short or long and ruffled depending on the season, is a hard face with sharp features and a tendency to scowl. Dark, lengthy eyebrows along with frowning lips only accentuate the illusion of an angry expression on his visage. This somewhat thicker pair of lips rarely move as a result of his deafness and tendency to use gestures rather than words to interact with others. He can speak rather clearly, but his voice tends to be hoarse from misuse, and the occasional slurring of words cause some difficulty in communication.

In the beauty department Pyrian is considered "average", perhaps leaning more toward the handsome side with his narrow jawline, firm cheek bones, and small nose. His small forehead is also well-suited to his features - only his lips and his elf-like ears are the awkwardly large and unfitting parts of his face. Ask him if he cares, though, and he will tell you no. It makes no difference to him whether or not people consider him attractive.

Pyrian has a passion for mischief. If there is anyone who can claim trouble-making as a hobby, it is him. His nature was not unpredictable - his deviant behavior has been occurring since infancy, when he spit out every pacifier given to him and set all of his stuffed animals on fire. Even now, when the opportunity arises to make somebody’s life a miserable, hilarious embarrassment, he will take it without hesitation. There is something about humiliating a person that makes him feel giddy and amused, as if there is no other joy in the world. This is not his only odd passion, however - it is the pyromania that really separates him from a crowd.

The shrink may call it a disorder, but Pyrian considers it a personal passion. He has always been attracted to light - stars, fluorescent bulbs, flashlights - but it wasn’t until he discovered the simple flame that he fell in love. Something about that flickering light and all its ability to simultaneously destroy and create (pain) fascinates him, and as soon as this amazing discovery was made and experimented with he began to use it to his cruel advantage. He loves to torment people with jokes and stunts, but with fire everything is all the more satisfying. With a stash of matches and a spare lighter hidden in both of his bedrooms, there is no end to his devious plots, but with this mastery of flame comes responsibility and consequences he has yet to understand. He tends to focus only upon what satisfies him rather than the potential danger fire can create. Sure, setting the curtains aflame may cast the prettiest of glows throughout a dim-lit house, but if the fire and smoke were to spread it could kill somebody, himself included. But Pyrian is naïve and too narrow-minded to worry about something so seemingly unlikely. That, and he considers himself too skilled in the art of fire-wielding to lose control of his creations.

In public, Pyrian is quiet and rude whenever strangers speak to him. He was never skilled at making friends, and never cared to do so. He is selfish in every sense, and anybody who stands as an obstacle to his own happiness will receive quite a rude remark - if he decides to actually speak. With his deafness, he seems all the more silent and secluded when in reality he just doesn’t want to talk to people because they annoy him. School isn’t any different - he torments the other children with petty things when he is bored, and rarely pays attention to anything because what appears on the teacher’s board does not interest him. Education means little to him unless it involves chemical combinations or anything that can cause explosions or burns. In fact, he hates school the majority of the time and recently dropped out because it felt like an utter waste of his precious time.

On the plus side, Pyrian values honesty - or rather, doesn't care enough to lie. He will speak his mind in a heartbeat and defend his opinions with whatever logic he musters, whether it is truly logic or not. While he may seem blunt and a bit too honest, there is an advantage to his honesty, and that is that one will never have to worry about Pyrian telling a lie. Not unless his life depends on it.

It is no secret that Pyrian is an accident. What is shocking about the situation is that his father, Clemson Rotz - prestigious scientist - slept with the prostitute that soon became the mother of Pyrian and his twin sister, Gypsy, then actually decided to support them. Of course, with his fabulous career and all he couldn't seem to find the time to really raise his children properly, but that did not bother little Pyrian. He was too absorbed in his chaos to really care about his father’s love, or lack of it. He spent most of his childhood causing mischief, much like he does now, except those were the innocent years where the simplest things like playing with candlelight was an amazing accomplishment. His father didn‘t quite enjoy his little stunts, especially when the house nearly caught on fire, and as a result he was taken to a therapist. They tried to change his demeanor with medication, a sickening thought to young Pyrian, but did it actually work? Not at all. Whenever he decided not to stick the pill under his tongue only to spit it into a fire later on, its effects only slightly altered his mood. It failed to suppress his devilish urges, which was the one quality his father really wanted to focus on.

Pyian was not alone in this cumbersome journey; his twin sister, Gypsy, had a passion for flames too. Together they were the dynamic duo, the masters of mischief, their father’s living, fiery nightmare. To Pyrian, life was thrilling and amusing whenever he and Gypsy teamed up to torment their father or light something on fire. It was also nice that she had not been born with any hearing deficiencies, and had helped him to adjust to improving his four other senses - particularly his eyesight - as he developed. So far, the two have rarely experienced any issues other than the occasional sibling bickering and a few arguments over who should light the next match and who created the best fire, and their relationship is generally easygoing and friendly. The two are alike, after all, so why should there be an issue?

Gypsy is not the only other person he shares sibling blood with. As a result of his mother’s career and her lack of using protection, there are more members of the Keeni family. A lot more. Pyrian didn’t think it eas biologically possible for one woman in district six to bear so many children, but here they are, living within the same home during the weekdays and visiting their fathers on weekends. Pyrian doesn’t mind his other siblings - they’re quite an interesting bunch, especially because each of them has some sort of problem that should’ve been addressed with a shrink, much like his own. Regardless of their issues, though, he enjoys spending his time with them, meaning he also enjoys tormenting them when the opportunity arises. Visiting his father with Gypsy on weekends has proven to be a dull event he no longer looks forward to. His father is a boring scientist who pays little attention to them, and the only advantage Pyrian’s visiting provides is the opportunity to sneak into his father’s laboratories and play with some of the chemicals. His sister usually guides him in, since he is too clumsy and loud to sneak in without being noticed, but once he is with his chemicals he steps into his own little world - a world with glorious explosions and beautiful, flickering lights.
