He didn't have to play "nice guy," not at night. Sure, he had to put on a show during the day, play up to the whole "pretty-boy" thing he had going. But not here. Not now. "Oh, I bet you think you're real clever. If you were, you would know there's no reason to roam streets like these this late." I get a little closer, and then bend down slightly, so I can see the girl's eyes. "What I'm doing here? Do I look like someone who would answer that?"

"Safe for you? I doubt that. What are you, thirteen?" I snicker, leaning back a little. I see that look of uncertainty in her eyes, but also mischief. The only girls who come out at night are prostitutes and thieves. Of course, any experienced thief knows night is the worst time of day. It's so very obvious. You have to do these kinds of things in plain sight. I would know. Is this girl one of them? Or is she even dumber? The hands raised in front of her chest almost makes me laugh. Oh, I'm having too much fun scaring her. "Darling, do you even know what happens to little girls at this hour? Men like me take advantage of them. But I'm sure you wouldn't want that, would you?" I take her wrist, tightly enough so that she won't be able to get out of this. I need to get something from her; I need something from everyone, or else they aren't worth my time. She has to have something I want. Money, maybe? I'd be fine with that. "Empty out your pockets, and I'll let you go," I say, tightening my grip on her wrist.
