This was where Dime Datillo was at her best, weaving in and out of crowds of people, smiling and staring into their eyes as she passed them, holding up candies and necklaces and anything she could even have a vague chance of selling. The items had been carefully plucked out of garbage bins, but nobody had to know that. As long as they were concerned, she was that girl, Dime who sold a variety of items - not that they questioned the source of acquiring them - at a fair price. Oh, she didn't doubt that she had tried to sell something to somebody whose dumpsters she raided at least once, but the rich and classy folk never liked to be around the grimy, smiley girl besides.

At that moment, she had on her most winning smile, and she held a soft, used scarf in her hands. It was purple, a fine fabric, but with a small hole near the end. She held her hands out to the nearest stranger. "Nice scarf to keep you warm - cheap too!"

SKID COALDER.

When it was coldest in Panem, I always tried to stay in a District for a while, and it's not like anyone at home would miss me. Today, District Three was my home. I say the term loosely, because over the years, I've lost faith in a home. I've built some walls around myself, walls strong enough to be a home themselves, and I'm confident enough to say that no one can break those walls down. So I suppose home is where ever I am. A girl on the streets sticks a scarf out at me. It's in good condition, but you can see some loose threads. "Nice scarf to keep you warm - cheap too!" she cries out. I feel the change jingling in my pocket. I don't need a scarf, though, what I want for her is to get it out of my face. "Get that piece of filth out of my face before I strangle you with it," I spit at her, and walk away with no feeling of regret or guilt. Or small rush of adrenaline, knowing I won't be bothered anymore.

Bah, what a jerk.

Dime frowned at his comment - and the bit of spit that landed on the scarf - but her mind worked quickly. In an instant, she felt that this would be a challenge that she could rise to: selling a mean guy a perfectly decent scarf.

Her challenges were generally like this, and she liked them. It was a way to pass the time. Not always profitable, but she was honing her salesperson skills. No doubt this guy thought she was obnoxious, though the strangling part was too much. Rarely did she ever deal with people like this, for they tended to ignore her if anything. How could she be a target if she was just trying to earn a (slightly dishonest) living?

Her lithe feet hurried after him, but she kept a good distance. In her mind, she considered the options: what to say, how to phrase it. Even so, she couldn't stop herself from saying the first thing that came to mind.

"If you're going to strangle me with it, you might as well buy it first," she said with a sly smile.

"If you're going to strangle me with it, you might as well buy it first," she retorts with a sneaky smile. I frown as I approach her. "Okay," I reply. My hand fumbles in my pocket as I attempt to get some change. "Here," I say, handing out a majority of what was in my pocket, but it's not like there was a lot there, anyways. Before she even tells me if that's the correct price for the item, I grab it from her hands and wrap it around my neck instead of her's. "This looks nice on my neck, I suppose, but I think yours is getting a bit cold." I eye her sweetly, and I imagine the scarf being tangle around her neck so tight that she can't get it off, only gasp for air as she falls to the ground.

"Okay," he says, and for a moment she thought he might actually attempt to kill her, right then and there. Her expression turned cold - especially because he didn't give her enough money for the scarf. She wanted a little bit more, but then she didn't specify. He then proceeded to pluck the scar from her hands, and her heart clenched as he moved to put the scarf around his own neck. She sighed and hoped he didn't see it.

She rolled her eyes at him, but attempted a smile again.

"This isn't enough money," she said, jingling the coins around in her fingers. "And you couldn't kill me if you tried."

"This isn't enough money," she said, playing with the change in her hand. "And you couldn't kill me if you tried." This little girl doesn't know who she's talking to. I could kill her in seconds if I was determined to. Of course, I'm not stupid enough to do it in public. "Okay," I start to say, realizing that if I don't have enough, I don't wan the stupid scarf anyways. "Let's make a little deal. If I can kill you, I get the scarf. For free. If I can't kill you, then you can get all of the money in my pocket, and you can keep the scarf."
