Fantasizing alone, with my friend freedom

I had gotten up earlier than usual in the hollowed out log that I had slept in for the past five days. I rubbed my still closed emerald green eyes as I sat up. Crack! My head smacked against the top of the log and I was instantly awake, rubbing the area that hurt so much. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. I thought as I lay back down and crawl to the entrance of my temporary home. 

The crisp autumn air hit me, seemingly to knock the breath out of me. My black hair whipped around as I turned to the massive sword that was stuck in the ground. It was almost as wide as my shoulders and could be split into seven different additional swords. It provided great cover from arrows and was very light, to me that is. 

I pulled it out of the ground and sheathed it in the large scabbard that was on my back. I turned and began to run. The feeling of the dirt between my toes was the best sensation that a wanderer could possibly imagine. 

My thoughts turned back to five days before when I had met an extremely disturbed girl within the bounds of District Nine. The encounter that turned into a fight, that turned into a retreat. At least she knew what was going on and had hightailed it out of there. 

She reached a clearing to find a buck stampede out of the trees, and drop dead to the ground. Shortly afterwards, a young girl emerged from the same area and approached the kill. As she was taking out the arrow, I pulled the sword from my back, readying it to block if needed. 

My suspicions were confirmed when she noticed me for the first time. The bloody arrow was already back on her bow and pointed in my general direction. Well f**k. I thought as the girl asked a generic question. "Who are you? Don't step any closer."

The sword in my right hand was gripped tightly enough that my knuckles began to turn white. "That is for me to know, and you to find out." I said through gritted teeth.

I watch the scene below and hold my laughter. My 14 year old mind racing on what to do. There's a deer on the other side of the kid who placed her boots firmly to the ground. I shrug. I took out an arrow and shoot the deer. I then jump from the tree I'm sitting in to the other where the deer was and drop down. I take my arrow out and the string it again. It's still full of blood but I don't mind. I would clean it later if I had to. I stand over my kill and smile. "Hello" I simply say.

I still look at the girl, waiting for her to respond.

"Kale Awia, what about you?" I ask.I turn around and look at the other girl and smile. I put down my bow and arrow. I could always run if things got ugly. Or kill someone and then run. I liked that idea a little to much. But anyways. I look at the sword and smile again. "Pretty sword ya got there" I say looking at it with it's tip at my side. I nudge it away and then look at the girl.

My gaze shifts from the young girl to the older one. The one that seems to he more of a threat to me. I let out an exasperated sigh as the girl named Kale comments on my sword.

"It was partially forged in District One many years before your time little one." I say in an almost motherly fashion. Geez, now I'm starting to sound like some elder. Could this get any worse?" The older girl pulls back the bowstring, aiming at me. Then she states the inference that I was a desperate hunter and was going to seemingly fight her over the food.

I look at my figure and must say that I don't look very healthy. But that was the way in D1. "I don't know about you, but I have enough food to last me another five months." My five month supply was actually stored in a few hides that I had created on my previous journeys. It was all dried and would never spoil or be scented by any wild animal at all.

I decide to show some resort to peace with this girl and I flick a switch on the hilt of my sword. The entire blade splits in half with each half in one hand. I spin them around and stick them into the ground point first. Now I am unarmed but can grab my weapons on a moments notice. I turn my palms up in peace, hoping that they both get the message.
