Prosper

I kick the dirt underneath my feet and stare into the distance. Yurik got to go with father to start working on the luxury items for the Capitol. What a pansie. Yurik gets a head start in the family business while the rest of us are left with scars and bruises. I hate my father. I hate my life. Mother isn't the best, but she isn't horrible. The only problem is, she is always working. Mother has a fascination with herbs, and has been taken under the wing by one of the best medical men in District 1. My other siblings have friends they can go to when father is on his outrages. But not me. I, Prosper Boniface, am left to be beaten senseless while my family just runs away, making no effort at all to help me. A sudden rage fills inside of me. Not thinking, I beat my head against the tree, and instantly fall to the ground. It starts raining, and all I can do is lay there. I, Prosper Boniface, am alone.

Terra

I walk along the sidewalk, humming mindlessly. I don't even notice where I'm going in fact. My mind's in another world. Instead, I'm just twirling a strand of my blonde hair with my fingers, not paying attention to anything. Soon, I'm no longer on the sidewalk, and I'm heading in the other direction from the town. Only a few moments later, my mindless humming and my quick-paced walking comes to a halt as I trip over a boy unknowingly. I land with my face in the dirt, as some of it enters my mouth. I spit it out in disgust. "Jeez, what are you even doing on the ground? Now, I have dirt all over me. Thanks a lot," I snarl at the boy, reaching for my purse.

Prosper

I lay on the ground for a good while, letting the rain hit my face. No one will come looking for me. They know I go on these little retreats when I'm lonely, which is pretty much every other hour. I lay there in an entire different universe, as the comforting raindrops hit my face one by one. It only takes a girl tripping over me to bring me back to reality. "Jeez, what are you even doing on the ground? Now, I have dirt all over me. Thanks a lot," she snarls at me. "Why don't you watch where you're going!" I spit back. I attempt to get up, but instantly feel light-headed. I ruffle my fingers through my shaggy blonde hair and feel a warm liquid. I put my hand in front of my face. Blood. Lots of blood. "Not good."

"It's not my fault you're lying here all out in the open!" I say. Then, I see blood all over and I quickly stand up. "Eww! Don't let it touch me!" I shout. I start to brush the dirt off my clothes, ignoring the boy and panicking all the while.

Prosper

I lay there, blood still spewing from my head. The girl that tripped over starts freaking out. Oh yes, it's perfectly okay for her to be freaking out. Having a gigantic cut in your head does not even come close to being dirty. The pain inside me is too much to take. There is not use fighting back. I start sobbing. Half of the pain from the injury, the other from how horrible my life is. I am desperate. I grab her ankles. "Help me! Help me please! I cry out. Everything starts to fade out. No, I will not pass out. I hope.

"Jeez, fine. I'll get help. But you shouldn't be such a crybaby. I mean, seriously," I say. I look around for people and then remember a much easier way to get help. I pull out my cell phone from my purse, the one daddy got just for me. Most people don't have phones, but I'm one of the very lucky few that does. I turn it on and quickly click the numbers 9...1...2. "Whoops! Gotta start over! Accidentally pressed two! Silly me!" I say aloud. 9...1...1. A voice picks up and I explain the situation. "Umm...this kid is bleeding and we're somewhere, but I don't know where because it's too dark to see anything. Ummm...oh yeah! We're over in the field next to that one street...ummm...Oh yeah! Walden Street!" I say. Then, I hang up when the police say they'll be on their way.

The girl whips out a phone. A phone. And a mobile one too! If only my family could afford things like that. Sometimes, I think that we are the only family in District 1 who are struggling. And it's all because of my no good father. He has a nice job, but he spends all of our money on liquor, leaving none for us. She dials a number, and I hear her reporting me to Peacekeepers. Peacekeepers. Why hadn't I thought of it before? I can report my father for all the things he has done. For all of the harm he has caused. This will stop. Suddenly, I feel extremely light headed, and my world goes blank.

I barely pay attention to the boy as I stand there waiting for the Peacekeepers. "Come on," I say aloud. "They are so slow." Then, I look at the boy and see that he's blacked out. "Come on, this is no time for sleeping!" I say stupidly. Suddenly, I see the peacekeepers in the distance and wave them over here. They quickly put the boy on a stretcher and bring me along in case any questioning would be necessary. "Questioning?" I whine. "Questioning is so...ugh!" Once we reach the peacekeeper's hospital they make me wait out in the other room as they do a bunch of stuff to him that I could care less about. Ugh. Can't I just leave?

Prosper

I awake with wires attached to me. I'm confused at first, but then I notice I am in a Peacekeeper medical room. How do I know this? I've been here a lot if my father's outrages get even more violent than normal. He always covers it up, saying that "The boy got into a fight again. I thought we raised him so well." Just the thought of it makes me shutter. How he can treat us all this way, and just get away with it. Another thought occurs to me; were Grandpa and Grandma abusive? Maybe that could have sparked it, but it's still no excuse. I hate him, and I will always hate him. There is no forgiveness after what he has left on my body. I look over and see the girl sitting there. What us she doing here? Hasn't she done enough all ready? I don't even know her, and already I hate her. If only she knew what it was like to be me. If only she knew how it felt to be beaten every day of your life and not get away with it. But still, she was here. At least she cared that much. I rip the wires off of me and exit the room.

The boy rips the wires off and quickly I stand up. "Hey! The doctors told me to make sure you stayed in bed!" I stop in front of him, blocking his path. "They had some long boring thingy about how if those wires weren't connected to you, you wouldn't have enough blood and stuff and bla bla bla." I keep standing there, in his way.

I know what must be done. If I can get to a Peacekeeper and exploit my father for who he really is, my family will never have to live under his cruel ways. As I exit the room, the girl stops me. I blink, then stare at her. I can feel myself getting lightheaded, but I had to make it to a Peacekeeper. Without saying a word, I push her aside and walk down the hall. The loss of blood is effecting me now, and I know I can never make it to a Peacekeeper in time. I turn around and face the girl. I mutter the two words, "Peacekeeper. Father." before I black out once again.

The boy blacks out and I roll my eyes. What was he trying to do anyways? Escape? Isn't he smarter than that? I quickly shout for the peacekeepers and they carry him back to the room and place him on the bed. His two last words echo through my head. "Peacekeeper. Father," the boy had said. As they lay him on the bed, I realize I have to tell them. "Umm...before he blacked out, he said, 'peacekeeper, father,' or something. It was weird," I say casually. The doctors say that once he's got all of his blood flow back and once he's okay, they'll deal with whatever it is. I roll my eyes, "And what about me? Do I get to leave this stupid place?"
"Not until we're done here," they say.
My mouth drops, "Why!!??" I shout.
"Obvious reasons," they say.
"Such as..." I wait for their answer, but they leave the room before I can.
