I breathe in deeply as I look around the square. It's so nice to be out here again, watching the bustling crowds, seeing the sky when there isn't a windowpane between it and you, and most of all just breathing the fresh air! I haven't been out of the house in over three weeks. Mrs. Donalson had been preparing this elaborate ball in honor of the Games starting soon, and I barely had time to eat, let alone take a stroll. It's unusual for an owner to let their Avox out into the street on their own. But some of them pick a few Avoxs and train them as their personal slaves, and those ones are allowed, on occasion, to go out carrying messages that their owners don't trust anyone else to carry. I was lucky enough to be one of those Avoxs. As it turned out I was actually delivering a message to the President's wife, and then some party invitations on my way back. I was a little unnerved by the looks I was getting from some teens across the square. Capitol rats. My clothes obviously show I'm an Avox, and being an Avox makes me a former rebel, being a former rebel means that if I don't pick up my pace I'm liable to end up with a bit of a problem. As much as I've grown to love the capitol’s sky and beautiful buildings, I hate the people in it seven times more fiercely.
