Today in class, I was assigned to work with a boy for our project. All the other girls have girl partners, but there was an odd number so I get to be the one girl paired with a guy. His name is Joshua, and he's half a year younger than me, but he's pretty smart, so it's not that bad, I guess. We decided to work at his house today during our little free time.

He has many siblings--four total, I think. A tall girl--his older sister, I think--opens the door. She's eight years older than me and has black-ish hair. Her eyes are a cool color, and she's pretty nice.

"Hello. I'm Thella. I'm working with Joshua on a project for school. Is he home yet?" I'm hoping he is, but the house seems pretty quiet. I wait for her to let me in or tell me to go away. This is the right house, right?

As I'm washing the dishes, I hear a faint knock on the door. I look at the clock and see that the time is 2:30, Josh should be coming home from school soon.

I wipe my hands on the dish towel and answer the door, surprised to see a young girl standing there. She looked to be about seven or eight, with black hair and bright green eyes.

"Hello. I'm Thella. I'm working with Joshua on a project for school. Is he home yet?"

Her name sounded familiar, I remember Josh telling me about her one time. She seemed like a nice girl, and I smiled at her.

"Josh will be home from school any minute now," I say. "Do you want to come in and wait for him?"

Leave it to Josh to make people wait, I think to myself.

"Josh will be home from school any minute now. Do you want to come in and wait for him?" she asks with a smile.

"Sure, thank you," I say with a smile of my own. The house is slightly smaller than ours, but it's well-kept and very homey.

"Are you Josh's sister? You have pretty eyes." I blurt out.

"Sure, thank you," she says. I give her a seat at the table and continue doing the dishes. I wish I had something to offer her, a snack or something, but we just didn't have that. I settle on giving her a glass of sweetened tea, which she accepts.

"Are you Josh's sister? You have pretty eyes," I hear Thella say.

"Yes, I am Josh's sister, and thank you very much," I say. "You have pretty eyes too," I tell her, which is true.

I hear someone walk through the door, and look to see Josh and Andrew come in.

"Hey Josh, your friend Thella from school is here to work on a project with you," I tell him.

"Hi Thella," Josh says. "Want to work at the kitchen table? We'll have more room that way."

"What's your project going to be about?" I ask, being nosy. I couldn't help it though, I was curious.

"Hey Josh, your friend Thella from school is here to work on a project with you," she says. I turn--I didn't even hear the door open.

"Hi Thella. Want to work at the kitchen table? We'll have more room that way." I quietly sigh with relief--I didn't want to work in a guy's room, if he even has a room all to himself.

"What's your project going to be about?"

Seeing that Josh isn't answering, I reply, "We're learning the history of Panem, and now the want us to present the information in 'the most creative way' we can come up with. In other words, they probably want us to write the curriculum for next year's students."

Josh runs off to get some supplies we'll need, and I take out my notes from class.

"The way they taught us, it would seem Panem was a splendid place to live. Why, then, are there people starving in our District?"
