The masked boy (Mockingjay, closed)

I sat there, emotionless on my bed gazing up at the ceiling.
Eleven...
The thought of Harmony easily being pried away from, and taken to The Hunger Games was unbearable.
One more year...only one last year to cling to....
"Melody!" a familiar voice broke into my head.
"Melody!" the voice repeated. I sat up and pulled my legs over the side of the bed to get up.
I made my way into the kitchen where Harmony is carrying a sack holding a loaf of bread.
"Can you help please?" she asked me.
I ran to her side, and took the food from her.
I dropped them off on the small wooden table, and turned towards her.
"How was school?" I ask.
"Boring." She replies.
Everything gets silent... she must be thinking the same thing I am...
The Hunger Games.
I decide to invade the silents and say, "..Um learn anything interesting?"
"No." she mutters.
More silents.
"Well....okay are you hungry?" I ask.
"Yeah."
I take out the loaf of bread, and break it into two pieces, then hunt around for the butter.
I butter the bread, and give her one half of it while I get the other.
We sit down at the table, and remain quiet the whole as we eat.
After we are done eating, any leftovers I save for next time we get hungry.
"Hey, do you want to come with me? I'm going to that special tree I've told you about." I say to her as a reserve the bread.
Harmony's eyes light up.
"Sure." she replies. She walks up to me, and grabs my hand.
I put away the bread, and we open the door to our small house.
Next door a boy sat at his door step.
I recall seeing him somewhere...probably school.
Harmony rushing back inside after releasing my hand.
"Huh? Hey, where you going?" I call after her.
"Forgot something." she yells back.
"Okay.." I sit down at my doorstep and look out at all the foliage as I wait for her.
...I won't let the Capitol take her....I won't.

Harmony rushes back out of the house and shuts the door behind her.
She's carrying a book now.
"Whats that?" I whisper.
"Its a surprise! You have to wait until we get to the tree." She explains, and grabs my hand again.
"Oh, okay." I respond, and start walking towards the direction of 'my' tree.
Moment's later Harmony runs up to the tree. She had probably already guessed it was this one.
I help her up onto a low branch, and then I climb on myself.
I lean against the trunk, and she crawls into my lap.
"Okay, you can see now." She says and opens the book.
I peak around from her shoulder.
Drawings.
Good drawings.
"Did you do this?" I ask.
"Yep." She replies, flips through a few pages, and points to one.
"That's me and you." She says, and turns around to look at me.
"Do you like it?" She asks.
I nod.
"Its very pretty." I reply.
We sit there for a long time.
After looking at all of her pretty pictures Harmony and me look up at the sky and point out our favorite stars.
I hardly noticed it was dark, we left the house when the sun was still out.
After looking at stars Harmony finally decides to go to sleep, however I stay alert as she naps, and watch out for the both of us.
....She's growing up too fast...

After moments of listening to the crickets chirp, I gather up Harmony, and carry her back to our house.
She's really knocked out.
Poor thing must be tired... I think.
Then, I see the same boy from earlier at our door.
Guess he doesn't realize were out...
I walk up to him and tap in on the shoulder.
"Excuse me? Can I help you?" I ask gently, and softly so I won't wake up Harmony.

"Sure." I accept his offer, and take it.
I'm not sure what it is, but it looks good.
I take a bite out of this 'dough-cabbob'.
"Mmmm, tastes good, did you make it?" I ask.

"Ha..yeah, she's asleep. She's my little sister, Harmony." I say.
And I have to protect her from any dangers...even if it means my death...
The boy asks for my name.
"Melody. Melody Stormfield. And you are?" I answer and hold out my hand for
him to shake.
The night is filled with many chirps, and strange scary noises.
In the distance I could of sworn I heard a howl.
Its the time when animals stir with many insects.
The time I love ever so much.
Twilight.

"Okay L." I replied smiling.
He opened the door for me.
"Thank you." I say, and walk into the house.
I head into my room with Harmony, and lay her down on my bed.
I lay her book beside her, and tuck her in for the night.
For a brief moment she wakes up, and says to me, "On the next page I'm drawing our tree."
"You do that." I pull a strand of her hair behind her ear, and kiss her on the forehead.
"Good night."
But she's already asleep again.
I walk out of my room, and to the porch again for the boy in the mask.

I sit down beside L, and look up at the stars.
I'm thinking of different ways to protect Harmony from The Hunger Games.
We could just run away....but the Peacemakers would hunt us down and kill us on the spot.
...I could volunteer to be the female tribute for our district if she is ever chosen to be a participate in the games...but who would take care of her while I was gone?
...And If I die, what would she do?
Stupid Capitol...
I'll get you....one day...and so help me god....if you lay a hand on my sister your as good as dead.
I shake my head, then look at the ground.
