It was an unordinary cold day. Usually I would be in my own house, with nobody else considering I lived on my own, keeping away from the awful winds. But I really needed to go out for a cigarette and purchase some more bread, I was running low. I throw on my shin high black boots, and my black leather jacket, and step outside in the freezing weather. I take a large breath in, the cold hair freezing and alarming my lungs. As I exhale I watch the foggy mist an inch in front of my face. I step out into the day and run my hands together, causing friction, hoping they'll regain feeling. I try to get to the shop as quick as I can, hoping that Dinah will be there selling bread... That's when the an awful feeling took over me. Dinah got picked for The Hunger Games. She was pretty much considered dead.. I wonder who would be at the shop instead. So absorbed in my own thoughts I hadn't realized a large piece of wood a few feet ahead of me. I trip over it, tumbling to the ground. I notice it was a cane. "What the?" I yell, as I get up. I look to the girl, "Excuse me?" I say quite rudely.

I look at the girl with utter shock. She was trying very hard to not make eye contact with me, making me even more mad. Why was she just sitting out here in the middle of this weather anyway? It was just ridiculous! "You're excused." She replies in a voice that was ment to taunt me. "That's not what I ment..." I say to the girl as I get more frustrated by the minute. "You shouldn't just let that thing lay in the middle of the-..." I stopped in the middle of my speech. Cane... Not many regular people walked around with canes normally. Guilt swept over me and I wanted to apologize... But Then I realized that this girl probably hated when people treated her differently just because she had some kind of handicap. Whatever it was, I wasn't going to treat her any differently. "Just watch it, okay?" I tell the girl, a little nicer in my tone.

I look at the girls eyes with awe. Most would think because obviously, the young girl was blinde, but no. They were absolutely stunning. The moment the girl looked at me, the first thing running through my head was, 'woah, gorgeous.' Then, 'woah, blind.' "Maybe I'm not the one that question applies to." She says, causing me to think. Perhaps I was the one who tripped over it. But I was so lost in the disgust of the Hunger Games I couldn't look out for obstacles ont he cobbled stoned path. I look at the girl again, thinking how disgusting it is, too, that god let's some humans go through things like this their whole life. One conclusion: The world was a disgusting place. I knew it first hand, too. My parents died before I got a chance to have a relationship with them. Abbey didn't know what loved felt like. I take my cigarette pack out from my pocket and put one in my mouth. I light it with a match and take a long puff from the smoke. "What're you doing out here anyways?" I ask the girl with edge to my voice, but still enough wonder for her to realize I was trying to make conversation. It was freezing cold to be honest.

I nod, but then realize that she wouldn't be able to see that. "I see... And I am guessing that my lovely little friend here isn't helping you accomplish that?" I say, talking about my cigarette. As of which, I take another long inhale of the smoke, enjoying every second of it. I had totally forgot I was off to get some bread, this girl was almost as rude as I was. And I never really met anyone who was.

I sit next to her. "How long have you been like that?" I ask the girl, obviously about her being unable to see. It never even occurred to me that this topic might be a little sensitive. I just am a little impulsive, and I wanted to know. I wait in the blistering cold for the young girls reply.
