frogs or candy? // Sarella, Axel, Roseh

I play with the handful of bugs on the floor, upset I had not been able to find more dead things. I was not supposed to kill anything bigger than a coin anymore, and if I did and someone found it I’d be in trouble. That included the humongous cockroach I had found in the room next to mine, I think. I could still touch it though, and put it in someone’s bed. That was always amusing. I push the pile under my bed and stand up, fixing my dress while looking in the mirror. I make a sharp turn to face the other direction on my heels, and begin to walk towards the front door. Another thing I was not supposed to do. There was danger of me killing large things out there.

I pass Esme but she does not notice me leaving, and as I step outside I grimace at the weather. There was sun, and that was enough to make things awkward for me. Cloudy, rainy days, sure, but not anything bright. The color yellow itself is disgusting. The moment I’m on the path to the square a girl joins me. It’s a random movement, and though I could have thought she was just going in the same direction, the side-by-side walk bothered me quite a bit. She is taller, pale but dark haired. She glances at me, then, perhaps not recognizing my face, jumps away a bit.

“I’m sorry, I thought you were someone else,” she says. She blushes. “But, always good to make a new friend. I’m Gwen, who are you?” I stop on the road and stare at her for a few second, trying to figure out if I was being pranked. She was certainly silly. She seemed eager to make friends, but I saw a small bit of doubt in her voice. Or was it suspicion? Anyone looking at me might be a just little worried. I didn’t do anything weird, I just tended to think out loud. I was not doing that right now, though.

“Physically, twelve. Mentally, fifteen. Emotionally, creeped out. Lawfully, Ingrid.” Gwen raises her eyebrows and shrugs her shoulders, bending down a bit to hook her arm around mine and begin walking again. “So Rabbit Eyes is a bossy one?” I ask, but she only gives her name again and keeps walking. My smirk stays for the next five minutes. Then we reach the square and she offers to buy me some sweets. I shake my head. Sweets were not my thing, dead things were. Another thing I wasn’t supposed to do, visit graveyards. Sorry mom and dad!

Once she has me dragged to the store with clothes, she peers in the window while I look around, wondering if it was possible to find road kill in a place like this. Just as I’m about to try and escape the girl’s hold, someone pops out of the crowd in front of me. The first thing I notice is his face, a little too happy looking. Ripred, was this another Gwen? But as my gaze moves, I see the masterpiece on his belt. He asks if I want candy. This aggravates me. “Candy? Candy is disgusting, can I have a frog?”

At that moment Rabbit Eyes turns around, looking at Frog Man a little worriedly. Then she looks down at me, catching sight of what I wanted almost at the same time. I love that look on her face.
