Day Three~The Lake

Archer felt alone. Not that he had company with him or anything. Well, actually yes, he was alone. Jeremy and Arbor had gone along with the others because they thought they had heard something. Now, concealed behind the same small clump of snow he had hidden with Arbor not but two days before.

He held his multiple backpacks close, trying to keep himself warm. The group would be back soon. Right? If not, he'd be alone in these Games. He could live without Zinnia, Ailia, and Jeremy, not that he didn't necessarily care about them, but that he had agreed to be allied with Arbor, then Jeremy appeared along with his district counterpart and her ally. But they were all stuck together now.

But what if someone were to attack him? Would he be able to hold off? The others couldn't be too far just yet. He was pretty strong, but the broken rib had really slowed him down. It ached and there were times where it got to the point where he slowed down the alliance. Was he dead weight now? Yes, the Games were changing him, but now he was shifting back to his old self. The paranoid insecure little nerd he was. No, he wouldn't allow it.

The Games required a victor. As did the Capitol and every single bloody viewer feasting their eyes on the television. And a victor he would give them. He thought back to the girl he had ended a couple of hours ago. She screamed at them as if they were creatures. As if killing in these Games were unnatural. He had no intention to see how she intended to win the Games, but he wondered why. They didn't have to fight? What kind of bull scat was that? He was able to kill, not that he enjoyed or was satisfied by it in anyway, but if he wanted to go home, he'd do what he needed to do. Nothing was going to stop him.

Nobody. And nobody became a victor by chance...

There was nothing that Zinnia hated more than feeling powerless. Feeling so out of control, so helpless, so unable to change her own fate or the outcome of events. It was the worst feeling in the world, knowing that she couldn't stop something from happening, knowing that the only thing she could do was wait while her fate was decided. It had happened all too many times, and it never turned out well. When her mother disappeared, there was absolutely nothing she could do to bring her back. When Coran was fighting her drunken father, she was unable to help as she had sat in the corner of the room, just hoping that her father wouldn't somehow win and kill the man. When Coran finally kicked her out onto the streets, there was nothing she could do to persuade him to let her back into his home.

Now, Zinnia wanted to hold some power in these Games. In every decision that the alliance had made so far, all she did was sit back and cooperate, and she was tired of it. She wanted to make her own decisions. How on earth would she be remembered as somebody, if she only followed along with whatever the alliance's next plan was?

It was time to take control, and she knew a very good way to do it.

She had to kill Archer Fields.

Zinnia hated him. She hated him because he changed the plans that the alliance had originally made before the start of the Games. She hated him because he had gotten the same training score as herself. She hated him because he was a threat. She hated him because he couldn't be trusted and would probably only end up killing her in the end if she let him live. She hated him because he probably had plenty of sponsors, and she most likely did not. She hated him because he was in control. She hated him because he was male. Absolutely hated him.

With her mind racing and her feet making harsh crunching noises against the cold snow, she saw Archer Fields, standing there alone. There was no possible way to disguise her noise in the snow, but it didn't matter much. Ailia was right there with her, of course. Zinnia couldn't carry out the plan without some help. Gripping both of her weapons in hand; her hunting knife was held tightly in her left while her deadly spear sat firmly in her right. She was ready for this. Whether she lived or she died, she wanted this enemy (and also ally..) out of the Games. Archer Fields did not deserve to win. Of course, neither did Zinnia, but she had no plans to win.

Her plan was always to cause trouble, to make life hell for some tribute in the Arena. She wanted to be remembered. Winning wasn't in her agenda.

Which is why she sprinted towards Archer Fields so dauntlessly, so unafraid for her own life. She wanted nothing more then to kill him, to hear him scream from pain. If it was the last thing she was going to do, she wanted to die while at least making an attempt at killing him. If that plan failed, then she at least wanted to leave the world knowing that she had broken both of his legs and caused him immense pain. Yeah, good plan.. She thought to herself with a smirk on her face.

In an instant, the both of them were there. Zinnia didn't hesitate to stop, she didn't think twice about it. She glanced fleetingly down at her shiny spear, the weapon that she had practiced with so much and used so well to kill. Colton Brax's blood was still stained upon it.

"Hey there!" She said almost innocently, with a small, girlish smile on her face. A fake smile. With that smile, she adjusted the grip on her spear, her heart racing at an almost unhealthy speed of excitement. It was time.

Whether it caused her death or not, Zinnia was ready to make her statement.

It took Arbor a few minutes to realize what was going on. On the occasions when "You'd have to see it to believe it" rang true, it meant that Arbor was left completely in the dark--literally and figuratively--until someone or something gave away what was going on.

Fresh off of the fight that ended in a singular cannon shot, Arbor was tired. His rib hurt. He was coming off of his battle high. And the Arena was cold, too. In all, Arbor was too physically tired to be in the mood to expend any mental energy. It was harder to do.

So it took more time and effort for Arbor to get the gist of things than it would have for a fully-functional person. Though normally, this would have been seen as a handicap, in this case, the extra time to really figure things out probably saved the blind District 12 tribute his life, for the time being, anyhow.

Arbor eventually realized, of course, that Zinnia was attacking Archer. He needed to weigh the implications of this in his head before he could do anything, or else he would end up killed for sure.

Though the two were evenly matched, Arbor reasoned that Zinnia was more likely going to be the winner of this fight. She was the one doing the ambushing. Though her one wound was fresh, it was much less severe than Archer's accumulation from the previous day's fight.

Should Alia and Jeremy--Arbor felt it safe to group the two together, given their bond--choose to back Zinnia, which Arbor considered likely, given that they'd all stayed and fought at the Cornucopia together, the match was set before it even started. But if they were to side with Archer, he would probably win, regardless of where Arbor stood. And if they were to remain neutral, it would not matter.

The blind kid was torn. It was Archer, of course, that had invited him into the group in the first place. Archer who had led him out of the Cornucopia and acted as his eyes until they met up with the rest of the group. Archer, whom Arbor had taken a liking to, to whom he felt a deeper connection than the rest of the group.

On the other hand, siding with Archer would almost certainly get him killed on the spot. He'd witnessed little of his allies, but he understood their ruthlessness, their raw power. They would just as easily kill the blind kid as they would kill Archer.

On top of that, though, Arbor may very well be dead, should Zinnia win. Arbor's initial tie into the alliance was through Archer. If they had decided to off him, there was a distinct chance that they wanted Arbor out of the picture, too. He would have no one to protect him, as Archer liked to do.

But if Archer won and Arbor had fought against him, Arbor would more than likely be executed for his disloyalty. The same could be said in regards to Zinnia.

No, this turn of events did not bode well for Arbor no matter which side he backed, no matter who he attacked. So he continued to do exactly what he had been doing: absolutely nothing.

Ailia's breath fell hard as she ran through the snow next to Zinnia's nimble finger, everytime she exhaled resulting in a small silver cloud. Her over-sized boots were crunching through the ice, and as predicated, she was stumbling uncontrollably. A chilled wind picked up, blowing bits of snow into the air and shrouding them in a fine mist. Her ears rung with what she thought was the sound of all the small ice crystals colliding with each other, yet it could also very well be the fact that they felt frozen, as did the rest of her body.

Actually, correction. Nothing felt frozen. In fact, Ailia felt hot. As in literally burning. It was a feeling that had been hidden in her depths, and was now suddenly bubbling over the top. It was so real, she could actually feel herself breaking into a sweat.

Damn it, these shoes are worth it... Zinnia was already slightly ahead of her, due to the fact that she could not run in these. She just couldn't. It was not possible. OKay, it was possible, but it just wasn't fast enough. She wanted to b there. Now.

Archer was there, just as planned. Alone. As vulnerable as he could get. Ailia grinned. Now this would be a real fight. IT would be just like they planned...

Ailia was holding onto both her packs, hugging them under a sweatshirt she had found in one of the packs the half-alliance had managed to scrap.

It had been a busy day, what with the bloodbath and all. But it had been successful, majorly successful, and she was content... for now.

They were all packed into a tent, but she wasn't sure where Jeremy was... and it that small moment Ailia and Zinnia were alone. Ailia searched for Zinnia in the darkness, but her eyes didn't seem to get the memo that it was dark and that they needed to adjust...

"You know..." A voice wafted through the still air of the tent. It sounded foreign and strange, yet Ailia knew it had to be Zinnia. After all, there was nobody else there. She continued.

"We should shake things up a bit, later on. We're in a pretty strong alliance."

Ailia nodded to this comment. She agreed. She never liked the same-old-same-old.

She realized that Zinnia had probably not seen her acknowledgement, so Ailia spoke up. "Yeah. But how?"

She heard Zinnia move into a different position, then speak again. Her voice sounded nearer this time. "I say we kill one of our own. You know, someone in our alliance."

Ailia perked up at this. The classic backstab? Brilliant. Always a favorite in the games. She rolled onto her stomach and spoke to the space of darkness she thought Zinnia must be in. "I'm in. But who? Arbor?"

"Nah, Archer."

Ailia shifted back onto her knees, thinking thoughtfully about the proposition. Yeah. It could work. And it sounded fun.

"Okay. Archer." She agreed, laying back down onto her bedroll with a different kind of smile.

Ailia had reached Zinnia and Archer now, the same grin she had had that night now plastered on her face. She had been right. This would be fun, fun, fun, and it would totally make up for that dull fight back near the lake.

Kicking off her burdening shoes, she stepped barefoot into the snow. Her feet were numb already, so it didn't matter to her.

Zinnia had already attacked Archer, pushing him to the ground. Ailia smirked down at him. Finally, someone her height.

"Guess what. We killed a tribute back there, knocked him unconcious." She filled him in on the story as she lifted her rapier, slashing it in the air a couple times for good measure. Then she brought it down.

You know, after spending three f*cking days in an Arena like these, you'd expect I'd get the damn decency to rest, but no-oh. I'm praised back by a good ole' little betrayal attack after I nearly died for them while they rested oh so safe and watched. But hey, it's the Hunger Games, I couldn't trust anyone.

Word to your mother.

My name is Archer Fields. I'm 17 years old. 3 days ago, I entered in an Arena, headstrong and scared, but I felt safe and welcomed after allying with 4 other people whom I thought I could trust. I killed a person that day. I also saved a life. His name was Ralph Hawk. His name was Arbor Halt. Ralph died at the hands of myself while Arbor, my blind homosexual best friend ran away to freedom. We stuck together while Zinnia, Ailia, and Jeremy went another path. I then ended the life of Oz Myrrh in the forest, while the others watched. Then again, I killed Iris Brookside and Ruby Georges with the help of Arbor and Jeremy, while, of course, the others watched.

Now, just imagine, having thought that for once, you were safe and you had someone to watch your back. Someone to give you a helping hand and someone to stick with you the whole journey. Someone who would respect you and treat you like family. Someone who would die for you, only because you would've done the same for them. Well then, that's just a sh*tload of bull scat. Those people don't exist. Because y'know what? I was now lying on the ground in agony with a bloody broken tailbone.

I got up with small quick breaths. "Whores..." I muttered. "Damn your eyes." My broken rib was only starting to recover, but I'd have to make do with what I have. Then I realized, Arbor's here! He could help me! We could make it out like the bonded buddies we are! Well, apparently that's not what little Arbie had in mind there, huh? I stared at him as he stood back, clearly aware of what was happening to me. "Way to be loyal, huh bud?" I say coarsely. "After all I would've done for you...You were my brother..."

I turn to confront Zinnia and Ailia, maintaining the little distance I had between me and them. "And you...why? These whole Games, I've risked everything for this team..." I'm clearly astonished. Angry. My blood is boiling. Just knowing that I was right all along. That everyone in this f*cking world was not able to be trusted. That no one f*cking cared.

I hated life, just as did at the Reaping. And to whomever is reading this, f*ck you. Nothing personal. Because from this point on, I hate this f*cking planet.

Zinnia was extremely surprised when it was not she that had been attacked, but Ailia. Zinnia has attacked first, she had attacked more violently, and she was larger, but he attacked Ailia. Not that she was mad that she wasn't attacked, but Zinnia didn't like the thought of her closest ally being injured also. Nonetheless, that was how the Games went. People were injured, people died. People got over it.

When Archer attacked Ailia, his attack was merciless. He was definitely angry, but why wouldn't he be? He was being betrayed. She watched with a pained expression as he injured Ailia badly, causing a deep gash on one of her legs. Zinnia cringed just watching. She didn't want to win the Games, she didn't mind if she died, but she wanted her ally to win. Ailia had to win.

With that thought in mind, Zinnia picked up her fallen spear, took as careful aim as she could, and flung it at him, because of her ally's pain. Ailia couldn't be hurt, she had to win.

Day Three~The Lake

I watched with acute satisfaction as my spear left open a deep gash on Ailia's right leg. I could've froze time right there, gaping with joy as blood flooded out of her, watching her die as Zinnia also watched, but with horror. Unfortunately it didn't last long due to Zinnia lunging her spear at me. If hanging out with my blind "loyal" bud over there had taught me anything, it was to improve my other senses. Ducking, I eyed the spear as it soared over my head, clearly missing.

I lunged backward, snatching the spear. I now had two weapons. Two spears. Perfect. I wasn't sure what other weapons Zinnia had, but hopefully, her inventory was all out. After all, I do recall that I had the biggest pack out of everyone in my ex-alliance and as far as I know, the whole entire Games. Arbor still watched. I was furious at him. I wanted to rip his lungs out and gauge out his eyes and slice off his ears. He'd basically be the sorry ass version of Helen Keller. Oh yeah, and he'd be dead.

I dismissed the thought, at least for now. I had to focus at the motive at hand. Saving I disagree and killing the two deceivers in my group. What had Jeremy done? Was he with them? Or would he side with them? It appeared that the blind bastard has decided on nuetral. But Jeremy? After looking back at the day's past events, it was pretty obvious that he'd follow around Little Ms. Sunshine over here.

So, I'd been betrayed by my group. But for what? A threat? Because I had the most items? I had done nothing wrong. Nothing. And dear reader, I've been using that word alot lately, huh? Nothing. But that basically sums up what my life is at the moment. Nothing. It also sums up what's going to stop me from going home.

One boy. Two spears. One attack. I slashed forward, keeping a firm grip on both spears, and intended on ending two lives today. Actually, make that three. Well, it all depends. That boy better be begging like hell.

Alia had sided with Zinnia, as Arbor had expected. Jeremy was nowhere to be seen--or heard, as in Arbor's case. He realized that he very well could turn the tide of the battle.

The two girls could easily overpower the already wounded boy, but Arbor knew he could turn the tide either way in the battle.

Archer shouted something at him. "Way to be loyal, huh bud? After all I would've done for you... You were my brother." The words were meant to sting. But the sensitive part of Arbor had dried up long ago, executed with Shaw. The Games had hardened the callous that was already thick on his soul. He didn't flinch.

In fact, they had the polar opposite of the intended effect. Arbor, with his trusted knife in hand, did indeed attack.

But instead of fighting Alia or Zinnia, he slashed at Archer.

Archer seemed mad. Just a tiny bit.

"Whores..."

"Damn your eyes."

Ailia giggled. It was something she almost never did; yet she was doing now. It seemed so child-ish to her to she could barely recognize it coming out of her mouth, but somehow it sounded strange. Psychotic.

The wind seemed to pick up suddenly, stirring up the snow once again into a small flurry. Some of the snowflakes landed on her, piling slightly ontop of her head, other on her clothes, her bare feet. She could feel the moisture it left on herskin, yet still her senses did not register any cold. Although, it was starting to tingle now, instead...

That was probably not good. Ailia shook her head, shaking off the icey crystals, then set her gaze on Archer, who was now looking towards something else. Something that did not include his two attackers. Ailia looked over her shoulder; Arbor stood there, lone, just as Arcehr had looked just moments before. He obviously knew what was going on, she could tell by his stance, yet he made no move to join the effort. Or against it.

"Way to be loyal, huh bud?" Archer spoke out, sounding slightly pained by the disloyalty. "After all I would've done for you...You were my brother..." He turned to face her and Zinnia. "And you...why? These whole Games, I've risked everything for this team..."

Ailia didn't answer. She turned to Zinnia wondering if she would supply him with an explanation. Nothing. Well, the whole explanation spoke for itself. Archer probably realized by now that he was a threat to the team (Which was obviously gone now. They definitely ruined that little masquerade). And if he hadn't, well... he was a smart kid. He'd figure out soon enough. They wouldn't just attack someone for no reason. Well atleast not this time; this time there was a reason.

She wasn't exactly sure what Zinnia's motivations were, but she did know why she had gone along with this. Because it was fun. It was unexpected. it was a turn of events, and she loved it. it was the unknown, just like the hunger games were. And if no one else appreciated that little fact, atleast she figured the capitolites would love it. She smiled; maybe they weren't so different then, the capitolites and her. They were all raging savages underneath. They just showed it in two completely different ways.

Archer was done speaking now it seemed. He was ready to fight, then. She wondered who he would attack. Whathis reasons for such an attack would be, why he would choose any specific person, besides the mere fact that they had betrayed him. What was going on in his head?

She soon found out in an ugly way. He went after her first, his spear digging deep into her right leg. She saw it before she felt it. It was weird, really... strange. Ailia had never been hurt before. Not physically like that. Mentally was another issue, but this was different.

The blood was almost immediate, flowing in gushes down her leg. It was red, so red... Then her vision blurred for a split second and she stumbled. This time it wasn't the boots.

"Dammit," Ailia muttered under her breath, her teeth clenched. She had never been prepared for this... it was horrifying. Curiously horrifying. If it wasn't for the pain, she'd be overjoyed at the new aspect of such a gash, but right now the blinding pain was slowly closing her mind.

The next couple moments came fast and hazy, like her life was in fast forward. She looked to Zinnia's face and saw the horror. It seemed to be directed at her, or rather her leg. Then Zinnia threw her own spear. Ailia watched it soar in the direction of Archer. Just a little farther... He ducked, and it flew over his head, hitting the ground behind him. He picked it up, turning to face them once again. Great, just great.

Ailia looked at Zinnia through the corner of her eye. "Need a weapon?" She managed through clenched teeth, one hand on her rapier, the other on her icepick. It wasn't much of a weapon really... but it was sharp, so it could do damage.

Archer was holding both the spears now slashing at Zinnia; he didn't seem to do that much. Maybe a bruise. Ailia smiled faintly. Atleast Zinnia was still farely unscathed, besides a few cuts and bruises here and there. If there was one tribute Ailia was biased to, it would have to be her. Maybe it was because they were both maniacal murderers in their right minds, her and the District one female. Or maybe it was because Zinnia hadn't tried to kill her yet. Ailia thought that someone would have attacked her by now; after all, she knew she probably didn't seem that intimidating.

Ailia heard footfalls behind her and she swivelled slowly to see where they were coming from. Her reflexes were slowing now, from the pain. She wasn't sure how long she could stay up now, before loosing her conciousness. This was seemingly turning for the worst, already so soon...

The footsteps belonged to Arbor. Here to finish us off then, she thought ryely. Here to defend his 'brother', his closest ally. Arbor unsheathed his knife, and Ailai raced herself. By now, she knew he could fight. He could fight and win. The blind kid was no fool. She wondered who he would attack first, her or Zinnia? He could just finish her off now.

Yet, Arbor wasn't facing them. He was facing Archer. And suddenly, Ailia realized what he was about to do. But why? Why them over Archer. What had they done?

No time to think now though... she was distracted as he attacked. By the mark he made on the boy they were betraying. It matched her own, same leg too. Her smile grew wider, even though it made her head buzz. Note to self; Arbor was on her good list. Her very good list.

He inspired her to go ahead and attack again. She stepped forward clumsily, almsot falling over, but regaining her composure just enough the delt out a blow wit her rapier.[/blockquote][/color][/font]

Ailia was injured. Arbor was injured. Zinnia was injured. Archer was losing, and injured. Many other tributes were already dead. Her mother was dead. Her father was dead. An innocent District One citizen was dead.

In a weak moment of thought, Zinnia Yaren felt like the person that she had been not too long ago. Had it only been four months or so? She felt weak and vulnerable and useless. She felt invisible, she felt like a nobody. More then anything, she was scared. She felt small. Everything that she had done in the past year, everything that had happened, it fell on her shoulders at that moment, and she believed just the thought of it was going to knock her over. For the first time in the Games, she was actually herself again. Not murderous, not violent, not even the slightest bit defiant. Just herself, and it surprised her for a moment. Instead of attacking again, she stood back. Her mind spun wildly as she tried to make sense of what she was thinking, why she was feeling so sympathetic. Looking at her injured allies, she felt nothing but remorse. This was her plan in the first place, it was her fault they were injured. She looked at Archer Fields, and she felt immediate pity. Not anger, not hatred. The thoughts of sympathy that she had thought that exact day filled her mind then, consuming her frenzied, murderous thoughts and confusing her greatly.

What have I done?

She couldn't back down though. She couldn't change her mind. The plan was made on Day One, and she had to kill him. Zinnia held her knife tightly in her hand, but she couldn't bring herself to walk towards the boy and slit his throat. She couldn't, and yet she had to. Struggling between the warring sides of her brain, tears started falling from her eyes. She had to.

"I'm so sorry about this.."

With that, Zinnia Yaren slit open Archer Fields' throat and his blood spilled over into the clear white snow.

Welcome to My Reality

Okay, so I guess I don't have that much time since at the moment, I'm watching in silence as a tearful Zinnia walks forward, knife in hand. So let's make this short and sweet, shall we?

So, long story short, I was deceived. By 3, well 4 people I trusted my life with. So...Zinnia, what up girl? What the f*ck's up with killing me for? Not yo thang. Well then...hmm...awkward. Well, you could just go on and live throughout this Arena. Actually, I hope you live the rest of your life in this Arena. Worse than where I'm heading, that's for sure.

And poor little innocent Ailia, oh gosh, I'm just waiting for the day you die. I really hope you make the most out of it. You know? Like make it super long and make your death last as long as possible. We wouldn't want you dying on us, would we?

And then Jeremy, way to be there man. Apparently, your girlfriend isn't what she appears to be, huh? You missed a great show, I'll tell you that. Wait, what's that? I'm going to die. Eh, I guess you had to be there.

And finally, Arbor, my blind gay best friend. My loyal and trusted friend. You stood there, watching as I died and now you attack me and give me my deathblow. The hit that would end my life and turn this tide upside down. Tsk, tsk, little Arbie. Shaw would've expected better from you. Wait, what? He's dead! Omigosh! Eh. Well, at least I may die knowing that he's safe and sound and that there's no possibility where you can deceive or kill him or anything like that. Well, I just hope you get everything you deserve in this Games. Every single bloody thing.

And at last, my end! How fantastic, right? Y'know? I killed Ralph Hawk and Oz Myrrh and Iris Brookside? What the fuh? Archer Fields, bookworm, nerd, and grade A dork became a threat in the Hunger Games? Yup. That's me. Archer Fields.

So the moment I died, I kneeled in silence as Zinnia placed the knife against my throat. Lifting up my hands cautiously, I tapped my throat. "Right there. Make it juuust right." Then she did. Then I died. And then, guess what? I went to hell.

Hell apparently is a scary place. Full of lost souls and those undeserving of this 'heaven'. Well, I guess I would classify under that sort of thing, but I guess I'll never know since I kinda wanted to go here. Now, you might be thinking, What?!? Hewants to go?!?

Well yeah. And ya wanna know why? Because here, I'll have some influence on who gets to join me for the party. Now then, so I plopped down on a dirty old rock, surrounded by flame, waiting for 4 particular people to join me. You know what they say? Friends are like asscheeks, sometimes some s*it goes between them, but in the end, they always, always come back together.
