I start packing a bag for Preston and I for the beach today. I make sure to grab to bottles of sunscreen and a few beach toys that my brother likes to play with. Preston comes racing downstairs and straight to me "Lets go!" he hollers excitedly "Hey give me a second alright I did take a day off of work to do this for you." I reply sternly. He nods "Okay Claire I will wait outside." he says then runs outside and I roll my eyes. I lift the bag over my shoulder and walk out the door which I lock behind me since no one else is home but Baxter.

Preston is sitting on the step but quickly stands up when I am finished locking the door. "Okay lets get going then." I say and he takes off running down the street "Be careful and don't run into anyone or fall!" I yell after her. Instead of running like him I walk regularly down the streets of District 4. It doesn't take me long to reach the shore. I kick off my shoes so I don't get sand on them then walk out onto the sand with my shoes in my hand. I find a nice spot then set down the bag and my shoes. Preston runs over and kicks off his then I apply his sunscreen. "I'm going to walk around." he says then walks away. I pull out a towel and sit down on it and wonder if anyone is at this so called "Beach," today.

I sat on my bed. For the first time in a while I was being left alone. Though I wasn't the favorite child in the household, every one seems to have the urge to tell me each detail of their day. It was starting to get on my nerves a bit. The silence was nice, for about an hour. Then I got worried where they all went.

"Mason?" was the first name I tried. No answer. I assumed he had career training of some sort. That or he was out with his friends. "Julie?" was the second. Still no answer. I had no idea where she could have gone. Most likely on an errand or out shopping. I didn't even try to call out for y dad. I knew he would be out fishing. This meant I was alone. Out of habit, I walked out the door for a walk.

In a few minutes I found myself at the beach. Not the kind designated for fishing, but the one that people take their family's to on the weekend to swim. Being a week day, I found it barren.

"Hello?" I almost screamed to what looked to be a person at the other end of the beach. [/color]

I sat there basking in the sun letting its warm rays zap the stress away. I small breeze blew in over the sand causing sand to get in my eyes. I gasped and rubbed my eyes vigorously until the sand was finally out of my now teary eyes. "Hello?" I hear someone say in almost a yell. I look down the stretch of beach and see someone walking towards me.

I stare at the person startled to see anyone else out here because I can tell that is not Preston. I decide to go against my better judgment and stand up then reply back to the person "Hello." I say loud enough so they can hear me. Then I cross my arms and wait for something more to occur.

I clumsily walked along the water. Tripping over ever pebble or shell I came by. I finally approached the person who I had said hello to. After further examination, I could tell it was a girl. I She looked about my age, but I didn't know her. In her defense, I don't know too many people. I'm not exactly a social butterfly.

She had long blonde hair and was dotted with freckles. She was tall too, about an inch or two taller than I was. Since I had blurted out the first hello, I assumed I should start talking. It would be odd for someone to scream hello to you, then walk away like nothing ever happened.

"So," I began, hoping to sound less frantic than the first impression I had made. "What brings you to the beach." I concluded, not knowing much else to say. I looked down at what I had on. I found that I hadn't changed out of the clothes I was using to lounge around the house in. I didn't really care about it though. The sweats I had on looked at least presentable. The one thing that was bugging me is that I hadn't put on shoes. I dug my toes into the sand and looked back up at the girl. [/color]

^{I had been sitting on the beach that morning. I often went to the beach on my leisure time to watch the waves crash against the sand, to watch the fishermen catch the fish, to sing, and to think of my mother who died five years ago when I was eleven. I come to escape the, "Andromeda, do this!" and the "Andromeda, do that!" I don't often enjoy caring for my family whom without me or my always-working brother and dad would starve and die, so sometimes after my chores are finished, I like to sit out on the beach or swim.

The day had been quiet. I sat, letting the wind blow my curly blonde hair, and the spray of the water glance off my face. I dug my fingers into the sand, and let them play with the fine grains. My feet dug into it was well, and were now buried. It was now that I noticed I was not alone.

I stood, watching the people come closer, and a girl ask why the guy was at the beach. I walk over for some reason or other, letting my green eyes play over them. I shrug my shoulders and proceed to answer the girl's question. "Same reason as everyone else, right? Nice, sunny day...why not go to the beach?"}

My eyes grow slightly wider realizing there are too people now and neither of them are Preston. I gasp quietly as my shyness begins to come into effect but I swallow hard and try to keep talking "That's not why all people come though." I say to the other girl and then I take a step back becoming more shy than ever. I look at the ground terrified of what could happen.

I was bored. Usually, I would be helping my brothers train or at the dock right now, but seeing as they had gone to the black market today to do who-knows-what, I had decided to stay behind. I had just finished my third book that morning when I finally decided to do something productive with my day - and by that, all I mean is to get some fresh air. I pulled my brown hair into a braid by the side of my oval face, over my bony shoulder and hiding one of my distinct collar bones, already dressed in a floral camisole and white shorts, as the sun was shining through the window. Unfortunately for me, this probably meant I would be burnt from head to toe by the time the day was up.

I took a suitcase from under my bed and ran around the house packing two bottles of water, some biscuits and several sandwiches, before filling up the rest of the area with two books, a towel, a bathing suit and a notepad and pen. I would most likely not need most of this for where I was going - the beach, that is - but I had always liked to be prepared, just in case of emergency.

It didn't take long to get to the beach, a vacationing site, really, which was rarely used and only five minutes away from the house. It was a surprising site to see four people already on the beach, particularly on weekday. I had been looking forward to some alone time, but company is always welcome, I guess. Wow, if anyone could read my thoughts, I would sound like an unsociable, indecisive little prat, though I suppose maybe I am.

"-sunny day...why not go to the beach?"" one of them said, a blonde girl with curls running down to her shoulders. Another blonde girl who is looking at the ground, either scared or shy, adds in, "That's not why all people come though."

"No, I suppose not. I came because of boredom, since I'm not a big fan of the sun. Just wait until the end of the day, I'll be toast." I said all this whilst walking towards the group, and gave the shy girl a small smile in an attempt to make her feel comfortable. It was only after I had walked up to the group that I realized they were all blonde, which made my smile grow a bit wider. Call my sense of humor weird, but I found that hilarious.

I shut my eyes and tried to pretend I was dreaming. The crowd had slowly grown from 2 to 4, much quicker than I had thought possible. I was okay with two. With two people I only had to worry about one. Four was way out of my comfort zone as far as speaking goes. I didn't look at what any of them looked like. The disconnect helped me speak clearer. I stared frozen, not knowing what to say. The conversation that I apparently began continued without me. They were all talking about why they were at the beach.

I thought about this myself, not knowing what to answer. The truth was, I had no clue. I had just walked around in silence until the beach came into view. Then I was just here. I tried to think of why I had started walking in the first place. It was just to get away from the emptiness. That seems to be how I am lately. If I'm alone I want to be with people, but as soon as a conversation gets started, I regret it. I would rather have stayed at home.

I gulped, trying to speak. "Um, I came here because my house is really creepy when it's empty." I said at last. It wasn't exactly true, but sort of believable I guess. My house was frighting from the outside. It's old, and not well cared for, making it seem abandoned.

It's been a terrible day. I've got in a fight with my dad. I wish I was on my own away from him. I hate him more than any one could imagine. I stare at him angrily waiting for him to say another word, but he doesn't. He just turns around and walks away. This brings a smile to my face. I've left him without words to reply with. This must make him angry; however, in my book, it's a win for me. I look out the window of the house. It's a beautiful day. Today will be a good day for fishing.

I grab my trident and my net. I walk out of the house making sure to slam the door behind me as hard as I can. I walk silently down the streets. I throw the net over my shoulder. Most people never look at me, but for some reason they are now. It aggravates me. I walk down the road and make a right. I'm going this way to find my boat. I don't think my dad knows about this boat. I hope he doesn't. It won't matter anyway. I walk to the end of the road. Something doesn't seem right. I run up to where I tied my boat up to and it's missing. This isn't good. Maybe my dad did find out about it. I'll have a change of plans I guess.

I shrug my shoulders and head back up to the market place. I slowly creep around looking at all the boats wondering if one of them is mine. I don't have any luck though. I turn down another road and just keep walking. I look around at everything. The air is refreshing. Being outside clears my mind, but being around water helps me to relax completely. I walk down the road and come up to a great swimming place that I know of. Most people call it the beach. It's a wonderful beach. Sand is everywhere. I slowly walk around the beach staring in the water. A huge smile appears on my face. I look around and notice other people are already there. I walk up to them quietly. "Hey everyone."

I looked away again, hearing a new voice. Five was crossing the line. There is more people here than my whole house, when everyone is inside it. I could barely stop myself from quivering. I still refused to look at them. I didn't even pick out the different tone in each of their voices. I finally composed myself, taking my time in looking up from my toes to the faces in front of me.

"Oh, hi." I said, somehow having all fear wiped from my face. I convinced myself that it wasn't too bad. Though I was staring at them, I still couldn't take in all of their features. Out of habit, I assumed. I smiled very slightly, proud of myself.

I looked up now at the fourth girl to come and saw her try to smile and comfort me so I try to smile back slightly at her. Then I hear another voice say hey everyone that's when my stomach turns. I snap my head back down terrified now. Why are there so many people here! I think to myself but I force myself to try to be brave.

I take a deep breath look up at the new voice flip my hair slightly I smile as warmly as a can and say "Hi."
