I just said goodbye to Jabber, but it feels like it's already been a life time. A lifetime of emotions sweep over me. My eyes stained red from the crying that has been done. My cheeks are puffy and red, but it doesn't stop me from crying. I've cried so much that it seems impossible to cry anymore. I never dreamed this would happen. I never dreamed any of us would ever be reaped, but the odds aren't in the favor of such a big family. He can win this, I know he can. He can return home. I know he can do it. I know he can.

I sob uncontrollably not caring who sees me. I have other siblings that can be the strong ones. It's okay to be crying. My bro..cousin is being sent into the arena to fight. He could be dead in a few weeks. I can't imagine what life would be without him. He's like a brother to me. He's been living with us for so long that he is my brother. He's my brother, and I can't save him. I can't do anything for him. I'm stuck here. I don't want him to go away, but he has to. Nothing can be done now. He was reaped. I know he can win. He has to. He has to come home. "Jabber you have to win!"

Tears fall steadily down my face. I never thought I'd cry in front of everyone. I never thought it was possible, but here it is. I don't care who sees me crying right now. I'm broken inside. I'm lost. I'm shattered. Everything I once cared for seems to have been taken away. I'm numb. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next few days to come. I'll have to hold onto my family. I have to hold onto my hope that he won't be dancing with the fairies soon.

She looked at her younger brother Storm and couldn't help the tears that came to her eyes when she saw the puffiness and redness around his eyes from crying. She'd cried a lot in the last few hours since the reaping and didn't feel like she could stop. "Jab, you have to come home" He couldn't die. He just couldn't. She wouldn't be able to live if he died. She thought back to the last moments they'd spent together. She'd told him about her fears of going into the games and here he was, doing what she'd been so afraid of happening to her. She hugged Storm, a gesture that was supposed to be comforting and tried to swallow back the tears pricking behind her eyes. Come home, Jabber Jay, Come home to me and the rest of the family she thought, holding Storm. She couldn't help the tears that began sliding down her cheeks at that moment and didn't try to stop them. She needed to cry, and she needed her family to support her. Along with supporting Storm too.

I think every Jay had tears staining their face. Especially Fawn. It was sad seeing anyone cry because they were sad. But seeing your family cry was even worse. Except, I wasn't even sure if they would accept me back into their family because I disappeared and never showed up to any family get togethers. And I had finally had enough sense to actually say goodbye to my cousin whom I hadn't talked to for 11 years.

I was just an idiot.

I regret those 11 years passionately. I spent those years telling myself I didn't need my family to support me. I could do it all by myself. But that wasn't true and I realized it now. I really did need them. I walk up to Storm and Fawn who were crying hysterically in each others arms. "I am really sorry about Jabber, I truly am." I say hesitantly. I wondered if they would recognize me. It had been such a long time.

Tears drip down my face rapidly. My eyes burn from all the tears that have flowed past my eye lids. The tears catch on my eye lashes causing my vision to be blurry. I sob loudly with noises that aren't easily comprehended escaping from my mouth. "Jabber, please please come home. Please come home. I'll read you a story. Please you have to win!" The words escape through my lips all slurred together as I sob uncontrollably.

Fawn gives me a hug. I place my head on her shoulder with tears flooding out of my eyes. "Fawn, I'm so sorry." I whisper barely audible. I don't know what I'm sorry for. I'm sorry for crying. I'm sorry Jabber was reaped. I'm sorry for everything going on right now. She should be feeling worse than I am. She should be the one bawling her eyes out, and I should be comforting her. It shouldn't be this way.

"I am really sorry about Jabber, I truly am." A girl walks up to us. She looks familiar, but I'm not sure if I know her. I'm not sure what her name is or anything, but for some reason, she looks familiar. I shake the thought away. She's just trying to be nice right now, and that's everything I-we need. We just need someone to comfort us as these next couple weeks pass. I just need a shoulder to cry on.

"I-I never thought any of us would be reaped." I manage to cry out. I raise a hand to wipe the tears away from my eyes, but more follow. My legs shake underneath the weight of my body. I'm weak and lost. I'm confused. I still feel like I'm in a dream, but I know it's real. I know it's real. "I know he has the ability to win. He needs to win. He has to return home."

She stared at the girl as she hugged her younger brother. She didn't really remember her but she'd seen the girl around the district before. Who was she? That was a question Fawn intended on getting an answer to. She seemed to know Jabber and the rest of the family. Perhaps a friend or something She felt a stab of jealousy until she realized that they had a cousin that she'd heard about who had disappeared from the family a long time back, about eleven years back. She looked at this girl, the tears still coming down her face as she heard Storm say "I'm so sorry Fawn" He didn't need to appologize. it wasn't his hand who had drawn that cursed piece of paper out of the reaping ball and snatched Jab away from her. She wiped away one of her tears, looking at Storm. "You have nothing to be sorry for" She said, looking at him. She looked at the other girl as she spoke. "I am really sorry about Jabber. I truly am" she said. Fawn nodded. "It's no ones fault, I just wish he hadn't been reaped." She said, trying to put on a brave face. "I-I never thought any of us would be reaped" Storm said, looking bewildered. "With a family as big as ours, the odds aren't exactly in our favour" Fawn said. "I know he has the ability to win. He needs to win. He has to return home." Storm said. Fawn knew Jabber could win, she just didn't know if she wanted him to, not because she didn't care about him, she did, she loved him, she just didn't want him to have to live with the reprecussions of killing someone. She didn't want him to have to deal with that for the rest of his life because she knew he'd never be the same if and when he came home. She looked at the girl who she figured was probably her cousin and smiled grimly. "May I ask who you are?" She asked.

To be honest, if it was anyone but Jabber I probably wouldn't have come out to talk. If there was anyone I remember more then Jabber was probably no one. I just remember his little high voice just chattering away no shutting up. I was like that when I was little. I don't talk as much as I did when I was little. But I just remember us chattering away whenever saw each other. I didn't expect him to remember me. That was so many years ago. I looked a lot different when I was 6.

As they talked, I listened. I held my tongue even though I wanted to say something. I wasn't sure if Jabber would win. Out of all the tributes this year, there were some nasty careers. Maybe some that could break Jabber in half. I prayed he would come back. Just for the sake of the Jay family. If he played his cards right he could get out of there. He needed to be smart when it came to the arena. The right allies and resources could get him far. He just had to shut up and think about it. Which could be hard for her.

Fawn stopped talking about Jabber and turned to me. She asked me who I was and I laughed. I couldn't help it. A smile fell on my lips. "I was afraid you'd ask that." I si and shake my head. "I am Julie. Your cousin."

The salty taste of tears in my mouth does nothing to calm me down. My hands are shaking. It's like I'm part of a bad ending to the story. It's like I'm the family of someone who just had a family member die, or in the case of the stories, turned into a vampire, never to be seen around the family again. I'm helpless right now. I can't do anything. I'm powerless. I can't run to save him because he's already gone by now. He's long gone.

"You have nothing to be sorry for"" Fawn replies to me. I know I don't have anything to be sorry for, but it hurts. I don't know what I'm sorry for, and I never will. I never will figure out why this happened. "With a family as big as ours, the odds aren't exactly in our favour" Odds weren't in our favor today. It all fell downhill. I wish there was just something I could do. Something I could do to prevent what just happened.

"I am Julie. Your cousin." I don't even know that name, but it'll be alright. She may have gone away for a while. I don't know. I guess she is part of the huge family we have. More tears fall steadily down my red, puffy face. "Do you think he can win this?" I ask cautiously.
