The televisions flashed in the cafeteria, tens of hundreds of pairs of hungry eyes oogling the flat screens posted against every wall. Most snacked while they watched the carnage, excitedly babbling back and forth over who would win- of course, their district won the 62nd hunger games, and still, they felt the ease. Many faces seemed healthier and fatter than the year before.

Adrestria sighed, and shook her head away from the screen, gazing down at her plate of meat and potatoes- just the thing for a growing tribute. Thinking about it now, she never knew where it came from. Probably six? Six or seven maybe? She huffed, and gazed back down at her food, a glazed look in her eyes.

Today, she sat alone- all of her other friends were clustered in front of a television, and she didn't feel like struggling in a crowd to eat. Besides, she could hear their cattery conversation from here- about how that girl looked fat, how that girl wasn't holding that weapon right.

Ugh.


Normally, her morale would not be so bad, but today, today Adrestria turned fifteen, and she doubted if anyone even remembered or cared, least of all her mother. She never liked her birthdays. Everyone, everywhere always forgot it.
