The walls closing in and Darkness[Open]

I remember tears streamin down your face
when I said I'll never let you go
when all those shadows almost killed your light

Claustrophobic. It feels as if these walls surrounding me will close in and suffocate me. My glazed green eyes stare around, searching for an escape, any way to get out of this place with the walls closing in on me. I feel my heart beat quicken, fear filling me. I need to get out of here I think, the thought forcing my feet to move towards the door of my small, stone room that I share with my older brother Hawk. My feet move silently, my delicate fingers tracing along the smooth stone walls of the underground tunnels in the district I call home. Now, these walls are suffocating me, making breathing hard. I quicken my pace, hurrying along the corridors and muttering half hearted apologies if I bumped into anyone. Just get outside I tell myself.

I race along the corridor, finding the elevator that will bring me above the ground, I put in my code to go up to the surface and the elevator creaks, the gears complaining at lack of use. Not many people know about this elevator, I'm one of the few. I feel a sensation of rising as the elevator carries me up and as the door opens, a blast of fresh air greets me and I take a deep breath, allowing it to clear my thoughts. Looking around, I see the small patch of forest that I can clear my mind in as well as I notice the fact that I am alone up here. I pad silently towards the canopy of leaves and feel the cool shade on my back, shading me from the late summer-early autumn sun. Beneath the canopy, the air is cool and birds call to one another softly. I whistle a simple tune and one of the birds replies to me sweetly. I smile, not having smiled in a long time.

I found a nice spot beside a stream, knowing I only had about half an hour before I'd be forced back underground. It irked me that I had to follow the schedule inked onto my forearm each morning when I just wanted to be left alone. I sat down, closing my eyes, hoping to just sit in silence for a while. The murmuring of the stream is lulling, making me feel sleepy. I lean back against a rock and find myself drifting off to sleep, but only a light sleep and not a long sleep.

When I wake up, I stand, stretching out my full body. Hurrying, I make my way back to the underground part of my district. I know that Hawk will start to wonder where I am. Softly, I slip back into the district, avoiding suspicion. As I walk, suddenly, the lights go out and I freeze. It's scary when the lights are out in the district. It's the middle of the day but we are underground so it doesn't matter what time of day it is. I feel my way along the wall, trying to remember the map of the tunnels I was shown when I first came here but I can't remember where I am. great going Sitka, get yourself lost in District thirteen. I criticize myself. Suddenly, my hands feel fabric under them and I shrink back. "I'm so sorry, I think I'm lost" I say softly. I hope this person, whom I can't see in the dark, won't hurt me.

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
you'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
come morning light
you and I'll be safe and sound
