Rain Storm

Shatter every window till its all blown away
every brick
every board Every slammin door
blown away

Rain's gray eyes scan the horizon as she looks over the stormy green water of the ocean. The smell of salt in her nose and the feeling of the sea breeze as it blows through her dark hair make her smile. It's been a while since I've been down here her thoughts turn to the beach, the white sand that lays like a blanket over the shore and the waves that wash gently over the blanket like a soothing touch. The sea, she knows, can turn from calm to violent in the blink of an eye, turning those gentle waves into deadly torrents of water. Her feet wander along the edge of the cliff, steady on the ground and having a destination in mind. She allows her feet to lead her to where they wish to go and finds herself following the stairs that are carved into the cliff face, her hand running along the smooth sides around her as she descends. The clouds above dot the crystal clear sky and form small shadows on the ground where they cover the sunlight. Her heart beat is calm, thumping regularly and only speeding up as she makes her way down the stairs. I love the ocean Today was Sunday, meaning there were no boats out on the water, everyone was home, probably watching the games. She herself didn't care for the games, although, they would be a great way to escape life here in district four.

The sand beneath her bare feet feels wonderful (her shoes lie in a pile near the cliff because she has no use for them) and she lets the grains tickle her. She smiles and closes her eyes, turning her face to the sky. She opens her eyes and remembers that she has her bathing suit on under her clothes. I want to swim She strips off her clothes to reveal the black bikini she wears underneath and, after folding them up neatly and placing them with her shoes, she runs into the water and dives in. The cold water, at first, shocks the breath out of her but she quickly gets used to it. The salty waves lap against her body, cooling it down on this summer day when she needs it most. Above, a seagull shrieks, making her look up and she sees the bird soaring on the wind. Sometimes, I wish I were bird, then I could fly away from this place She's not a bird though and she knows it.

She dives under the water, her arms and legs kicking strongly against the current and she feels free, or at least as free a one can be here in Panem. The feeling of the water all around her and seeing the vastness of the ocean, she's reminded of just how small she actually is. Don't forget, Rain, your past is your past the memories of the day she left her father for good threaten to resurface but she pushes them away, allowing herself to just enjoy being alive and swimming.

A little while later, she gets out of the water, sand sticking to her wet feet as she grabs the towel she always kept in her bag and wraps it around herself. Her dark hair sticks to her face but she combs through it with her fingers, knowing she'll have to wash it when she gets home. She looks around the beach, trying to find someone and spots a figure a bit of a ways down the beach. Feeling friendly, she approaches the figure and notices that it's a boy, a few years younger than herself, and he appears to be fishing. She puts her skirt on to cover part of her up and waves from the beach. "Hello" she calls.

Practice makes perfect right? Well thatâ€™s what I say to myself everytime I fail to catch a fish. I consider myself excellent at fishing but in District four you always need to get better. Usually no one ever comes fishing at this time. I wouldnâ€™t say Iâ€™m fihising properly, Iâ€™m only trident fishing. Iâ€™m good with using a trident, I just jab it in the water and spear the fish. It gives me a good satisfaction when I catch something with a trident. A net I just throw it in and hope for the fish to swim into it but a trident takes skill, aiming and patience. I am wearing nothing but swimming shorts. Iâ€™m shirtless and not wearing sandles.

Usually everyone is in doors watching the games but I donâ€™t feel like it. I feel like coming here and relaxing and not having to cheer District 4 on. I came to the beach. The beach is much more relaxing on Sunday. I can sit back and clear my head while I catch some nice fish. I take off my shoes and have my trident ready. Surprisingly itâ€™s practically empty, I simply walk barefooted to the ocean, I walk and walk, I donâ€™t stop, I continue walking. I donâ€™t want to stop, I keep walking while keeping the trident up high.

That water is surprisingly cold. However I do not care. I simply continue to walk until I am practically waist deep in the water. I can already feel my legs shivering but I can power through it. Iâ€™m a career. I think to myself. If I canâ€™t shrug off a little coldness then I will never win the games. Although I will probably not be reaped anytime soon I still train, right now Iâ€™m not training, Iâ€™m spear fishing. So I quickly push the grim thoughts of the games out of my head and try to focus on the fish. I know I can do it. Just relax. I know I can do it.

You see when spear fishing you need to keep a calm head and not move your lower body too much or youâ€™ll scare away any surrounding fish. So I slow my breathing, keep my legs steady and aim my spear up high. I am poised and ready to plunge it down when I see a fish. A plump one that is not doing much, just idling swimming around! The perfect target I have a fishers mentality now. Due to the disfiguration caused by the water I know I need to aim a bit to the side. I Look. Aim. No sympathy for the fish. This is your dinner. I smile to myself as he get ready to plunge the trident down. No sound except the sea... Perfect.

However just as I plunge down the trident down I hear someone call something at me. "Hello" She calls. That tiny distraction makes my aim go a bit weird and I miss the fish by a few centimetres. The fish is instantly alerted and swims away the opposite direction, out of view forever, never to be seen about. Suddenly I feel a hint of frustration, I spin around and see the girl who called me. I am so annoyed I want to throw my trident at her but I calm down. Calm down Flint. There are plenty of fish in the sea. I walk out of the sea. I decide itâ€™s best to not be rude. As I look at the girl more closely I notice sheâ€™s around teenager, maybe sixteen or seventeen. I sigh. I guess I wasnâ€™t the only one who thought to come to this beach today. Usually Iâ€™m not a very social person anyway so naturally I come off as a bit shy.â€œOh hi. So erm how are you. D-did you come here to swim or relax or something?â€ I ask as I stick the end of my trident in the sand.[/color][/size][/font][/td][/tr]

Rain's eyes came to rest on the boy in the water and she realized she'd probably ruined his concentration. Oops she thought. Her stormy gray eyes rested on him as he walked over. Oh hi. So erm how are you. D-did you come here to swim or relax or something? he sounded so awkward to her ears. She smiled. Just here for a swim considering it's you know, Sunday She said. She wondered why this boy was fishing and working on Sunday. He was a few years younger than herself but he was kind of cute, not as cute as Triton but alright. Triton she thought, images of him playing through her mind. She shook her head, clearing away the thoughts.

What are you fishing for? she asked, wading out into the water where he stood. She'd used a trident before but she wasn't very good at it, almost stabbing herself in the foot with it actually. She looked around, seeing that the tide was coming in. I've tried Fishing before and wasn't very good at it to be honest she said, smiling sheepishly. A person from the fishing district who couldn't fish, she failed miserably. At least Triton can fish she thought, otherwise they would starve.

â€œJust here for a swim considering itâ€™s you know, Sunday.â€ Oh yea. No one ever works on a Sunday these days. I only came here to practice since I hadnâ€™t been watching much stuff recently. It was pretty annoying, usually I could catch a lot with my next but I always missed with my trident which was weird. I had originally come to the beach to relax but then I thought Why not bring my trident? Itâ€™s not like Iâ€™m doing anything else here anyway. Yea usually I like to be doing something, sometimes I just get bored of sitting around bymyself. Or just sitting around and cheering on the District 4 tribute. It gets boring after a while.

â€œWhat are you fishing for?â€ Well obviously Iâ€™d be fishing for food, thatâ€™s the only thing we actually do around here in District 4. â€œWell you know, food and stuff. The only reason Iâ€™m fishing today is cos the career school was closed for the day for some kind of work so I had basically nothing to do. Usually I would be training with a spear or something now but since itâ€™s closed I decided to practice my fishing skills.â€ I answer. When she said she had never tried fishing before that was actually really surprising. This was the fishing district after al. Iâ€™d been taught by my step dad on how to fish and swim. Now this stuff was as easy as breathing for me.

â€œOh you canâ€™t? Then how do you get money and food and stuff? I have to fish a lot to get things for my family.â€ I say. Maybe her parents do it or something? Or maybe she simply has a big brother who Iâ€™ve seen around before. I then realize Iâ€™ve forgotten something. Iâ€™ve told her about myself, why Iâ€™m here. That Iâ€™m a career but I forgot to tell her my name! Now thatâ€™s just pretty funny. â€œMy name is Flint Summer by the way.â€ I say to her. I then notice the tide. â€œWell if you canâ€™t fish you can at least swim right?â€ I ask. Surely she has to be able to swim. If you canâ€™t fish AND swim then thatâ€™s like an offense here in District 4.

Salty air fills her lungs as she breathes in the fresh sea air. The boy said something about his career school being closed for the day and she smiled. It kinda made sense considering it was Sunday that the school would be out. when she told him she couldn't fish he responded with Oh you can't? Then how do you get money and food and stuff? I have to fish a lot to get things for my family She felt a frown tug at the corners of her lips. I don't fish because my dad was too drunk to teach me and now, Triton fishes for us she didn't mean for her tone to be as sharp as it came out to be but she couldn't help the resentment she felt at the fact that she'd never been taught the districts industry. My name is Flint Summer by the way. she nodded in acknowledgement. I'm Rain Storm she said.

Well if you can't fish, you can at least swim right? she fought the urge to make a sarcastic comment and instead said Of course I can swim, I live in District four after all She sighed. So much for not being sarcastic she thought. She needed to clear her head. She dove into the water and the shock of the water cleared her mind enough to allow her to act like a regular human being. Sorry, if I seem snarky or sarcastic, normally I'm a lot nicer than this, I'm just moody today she said, looking at him.

Rain Storm huh? Well that was certainly an interesting name. Why did so many people give their children names that had something to do in water in district 4? He remembered in the last games the district 4 girl was called River Destin. A lot of them had something to do with water. “ Of course I can swim, I live in District four after all.”Well talk about rude. She definitely seemed not to be in a good mode that’s for sure. Sorry, if I seem snarky or sarcastic, normally I'm a lot nicer than this, I'm just moody today. She explained. Well Flint could tell straight away. But in the end he understood, we all have those days. Flint remembered the day when he didn’t catch any fish and got so pissed off he punched one of the other kids in the face, he had gotten scolded that day. But everyone had those days, still Flint was curious.

“It’s okay we all have those bad days. Why are you so moody anyway?” He asked. He then quickly added “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it.” He quickly added as to not make her annoyed at him. He then sighed and sat on the sand, the sand was relaxing, soft and smooth. He sighed, all he wanted to do was sit down and talk right now, take a break from trying to do some trident fishing, he wasn’t catching anything so maybe if he waited a bit and tried again later fish would come.

She looked at the boy, Flint as he spoke.
It’s okay we all have those bad days. Why are you so moody anyway? she was taken aback as to how abrupt he was, then he spoke again and she smiled. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it he said. Rain looked at him for a moment before deciding she could tell him. I guess I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed but I think I'm feeling better. It's been a while since anyone's asked me why she replied. The only person who'd ever asked her why had been Triton. I've also just been thinking about everything that's happened She said, surprised by how open she was being. What am I doing? she asked herself. You're being honest the realization shocked her. She was being totally and 100% honest.

After a few moments, she looked at him, her stormy gray eyes shining. So, Flint, what else do you normally do? she asked.

I thought for a second. What else do I normally do? Hmm.She seems interested, I do usually do a lot of stuff if you think about it. School, fishing and career training. And when I'm not doing those things then I have nothing to do. I don't know why I became a career, I think it's because I didn't want to feel left out. Honestly I don't think the games are fun despite the fact I've been training to be in them. Of course I won't say all this straight away. I'm surprised and how interested she is, usually people I talk to don't really care that much about my life.

I realized I've trailed off in thought and answer her. What else do I like doing? Well other than fishing and school I do career training. It's just training with weapons and stuff to be in the games. Do you do career training?" I ask her casually as I pick up a rock and throw it in the water. It's another habit I have when I'm on the beach, throwing stones in the water, it's fun to see them bounce on the water before sinking into the wet sand and never to be seen again. "I know it's weird isn't it? Seeing someone like me being a career. I'm not tall, or intimidating, or even muscular." I say once again as I throw another rock into the water.
