Always more than 1 in the woods(Harold M+Folium V)

I'm trudging through the wilderness. Can I call it wilderness? No, not really. The Capitol has every bit of control over this. It is just simply, the woods. Why am I in here? I'm not sure. Normally after work I enjoy going home and showering. Today I decided the peace and quiet of the forest would be better. Have you ever noticed that? The woods make everything more calm and content and you can just relax and let your mind wander.

Speaking of wander, I barely even know where I am in the woods. The only way I could get home is to follow the faint and spotty trail I've left by dragging my axe on and off through the snow. Now that I think of snow, the sweat on my back starts to feel more like a curse than a blessing. The sweat that cooled me off only minutes earlier is starting to cool my a bit too much. I should probably turn back and go home. A shower will be only too good of an idea by the time I get home.

But as I turn to backtrack, I see a boy. I recognize him. I don't know his name, maybe I do. He's from the grade below mine. He's one of those creepy kids that nobody likes. I feel like I should say something instead of just keep walking. Why did this have to happen to me?

"Hey," I say like an idiot. "What are you doing out here all by yourself?" Like I have any right to ask that question.

"I could ask you the same," the boy says coldly, not unlike our surroundings.

Anger immediately swells inside of me. He obviously could figure out that I'd realized what I said was stupid. Now I know why nobody likes him.

"I know," I say in a snippy manner. I should hold my tongue. Fighting doesn't get people anywhere. I then add, much more calmly, "Just a question."

I hope this kid is okay. I wonder why he is actually out here. He doesn't work the same shift as me, so an after work walk such as mine would most likely be out of the question. Maybe he's looking for some extra firewood. We've all been here. The Peacekeepers don't like it, but if we find dead trees and we need wood for fires then we try to sneak some back home.

The boy doesn't look particularly wealthy. His clothes suggest that he comes from a poorer part of the District. Should I ask? My parents say that asking about money is rude, especially when you have more. I don't know if I have more, but judging just by our appearances you can start to see.

"Do you need help?" I ask, trying to be helpful.

"No I don't need help." He said in a tone as cruel and cold as ice. "I'm just resting. And no. I do not think I need help with that."

This just makes me mad. "Well I'm sorry. It was just a question. You don't have to be so rude." I nearly add that the reason no one likes him is because of what he's doing, but I'm able to stop myself.

I immediately start trudging back down the trail I made with my feet in the snow. What a great way to "cool" down from work.
