Nothing to Do~ Luna Shim

As Luna walked around the wonderful district of Five, she wondered where everyone was, she didn't see anyone. Where the hell is everyone, I'd really like to know so I can make some actual friends.. she whined to herself. She shook it off and continued walking, she saw a flower on the grass, she wondered how the hell one would be alive at this time, and weather. Speaking of weather, she was fricking cold. She plucked it and put it in her hair, for some reason she felt all perky. She walked by a little pond that was frozen over, she looked at her hair in the reflection and holy crap it was all over the place. Ugh, where is the nearest mirror to this joint.She stopped whining because she felt like a little idiot at that moment, she sat down, and waited for something actually interesting to happen-- Which, probably nothing will, knowing this district probably anything interesting to them is figuring out how to count to five.

Bastien doesn't know what he's doing here, really. He's kind of... wandering, he should say, wandering aimlessly into nothing. It's like he has little to no purpose whatsoever in life. Which is untrue because his secret purpose in life is to annoy Cipher to no end. And the one that isn't so secret is to make his family's life much better than when they started.

It's the truth and the whole truth of things. He's willing to die for it.

(Or maybe he isn't.)

'It's not like I have friends who'll mourn, anyway.' Bastien kicks the toe of his shoe into the snowy and wet ground. 'Maybe it's the best idea.' But how can he ensure he gets reaped before he turns eighteen? He has four years, and that means four chances. Four chances, and unless he buys tesserae it means he only has twenty-five slips in the reaping ball. 'I've really got no chance.'

He shakes his head and sighs.

(If he lifted his head perhaps he'd see the girl with the flower in her hair and a pout on her lips. But Bastien keeps walking, keeps thinking he's the only soul on the road to nowhere.)

Luna looked up and saw a boy, he was shaking his head and walking. What the hell is he doing, it looks like he's a bobblehead. She thought to herself, before she could stop herself she yelled out "HEY BUD!" and covered her mouth, why did she do that? She cursed to herself quickly, and looked over to the boy, with a worried face. She didn't want anyone to talk to her, but yet she did. Her eyes sometimes looked dark blue when she was frightened. She stopped worrying, and looked with a smile. Hoping for a friend.

"Hey bud!"

The voice startles him out his thoughts, and Bastien's head jerks up to stare at a girl a head shorter than he is with dirty blonde hair. Blinking, he offers a jerky little wave, unsure if he's supposed to go up to her and say hi. 'How does someone do that anyway? Just go up to someone else and be all, "Hey there!"' Bastien is not the kind of boy who does that.

(He won't admit that it makes him nervous.)

"Hello," he says after a long pause that probably makes him look like an idiot who doesn't know how to speak. "Um, were you talking to me?"

Luna looked at the boy like he was an idiot, "Well, duh! There's nobody else here!" She said. She than smiled shyly because she felt awkward and a bit rude when she said that. "Sorry, didn't mean it to say that rudely." She excused herself, for some reason she felt lonely. She didn't know what to do, because she HAD nothing to do. She shook her head. She than looked to the boy, and thought he looks friendly, maybe i should try and become friends with him. She thought, throwing a stone at the frozen ice. She continued looking at her beautiful reflection. Wondering what to do.

"Well duh! There's nobody else here! ...Sorry, didn't mean to say it that rudely." The girl sounds like she's been chastised by a nonexistent person (or maybe it's Bastien's own shocked expression that made her backtrack the way she did). Blinking nervously, Bastien wonders if he should flee while he can or ask her what she's doing. 'Have I met her before? I didn't realize Five was so big that I haven't met some people... we do only have one school. Right?' (How patriotic is he with his lack of knowledge of his own district - he should be whipped. Or thrown into the games.)

"It's... okay?" he says a touch hesitantly. "I'm Bastien," he adds (and doesn't really know why he did, too). "Are you from school?" 'If you are, why aren't you already trying to make me feel bad?'

(Bastien will never understand the games his peers play.)

After what the boy said, she remembered him. He was the one boy that was always teased and made fun of. She always wanted to meet him and become friends. It was funny, how people teased others. We are all people, I mean. Whats bullying gonna do for you? Make a Unicorn fart RAINBOWS? "Yeah, and besides. Teasing is rude. I have seen you around but I felt bad for you. I am teased too, ya know that right? I mean, whats it gonna do? Its not like you'll grow a beard and learn how to fly." Seriously, Its like trying to make your older/younger siblings shut up or something."Also, I am Luna Shim. But I don't really know how much that helps you know me." Luna said smiling, she wanted friends. Or at least someone to love. (not saying they should date)

I walk into the square curiously hearing talking apart from the normal quite. I sneak in and brush my fiery red hair out of my eyes. I see two people in the square. One calls the other over in a way which seems quite rude. They seem to know each other, but I'm not sure. They start to talk. I feel as if I should do something because it seems as if a fight is about to break out.

I start to walk down towards them after hesitating for a second. I cover ground in short small steps. I finally reach them. I brush my fiery red hair out of my face again. Then I asked, "What's Up?"

"Teasing is rude." For some reason that sticks with Bas more than anything else. He bites his lip; he knows teasing is rude but he doesn't think he was teasing her, was he?

(He doesn't want to grow a beard, he thinks he'll look weird with it, but what does he know? He's never seen himself with a beard. Maybe he'll look better for it, covering his face and giving him some form of protection when cruelty rears its ugly head and spits venomously at his face.)

She says her name is Luna Shim; the name rings a distant bell but honestly Bastien spends too much time in school avoiding people to actually know who anyone is. He shakes his head a little. Let's get back to the rude part.

"Um, if I said anything rude-" he says hesitantly, is about to continue when he's cut off by a careful voice: "What's up?"

Blinking rapidly, Bastien looks at the new girl and shakes his head wordlessly, taking half a step back to avoid getting 'in someone else's space'. People will hurt for the strangest things, he remembers telling his brother, who just smiled and held him closer.

"Um. Nothing." We were just talking, and I think I'm supposed to leave, he wants to add, but thinks he should let the first girl - Luna - respond. They might be friends.

I look at the faces of the two people I just met. I just talked too. What is wrong with me? Why would I randomly talk to some total strangers. I feel a bit uncomfortable near them.

What's going to happen?

I don't know.

I feel a bit awkward as I wait for one of them to talk. It is a silence with an edge of metal. I take a deep breath as their eyes train upon me.

"Hi. I'm Cameron." I say as I brush my fiery hair out of my face again. "What's your name?"

As Luna saw the two chatting like she wasn't there she decided to speak up. "Sorry to ruin your party Pansycakes', but what are we talking about?" But she decided to shut up, nothing is gonna go wrong. It was so boring, not having anyone to talk to. She started to twiddle her thumbs as she waited in annoyance. She got a pet rock and threw it in the air, catching it and throwing it again. Oh my god, its so boring in District 5. There is Nothing to absolutely positively do. Maybe someone cute will come and ask me to date them, maybe. But she was getting really lonely.

"Well, uh sorry," I stuttered, suddenly sounding scared and shy like the girl I really am. I started to back away, "I will leave you to your chat." Wow. I still can't believe how rude she is.
