Unlikely Encounters [Skittlekat]

I make my way down the winding path along the polluted river. The river is gray. No fish live in it. The small bank that I walk along holds sand with leftover everything. I see cups, cigarettes, and almost any other form of litter. Obviously accumulated over time. Nobody in this district bothers to clean up. Not even me, not even the one who criticizes it as she walks over all the litter. I sit down, wrapping my arms around my legs, hugging them into me and placing my head on my knees. I watch the mucky, dirty water flow by and think about how it persists to run, even though it has no reason. It does not provide nourishment. It does not please anyone, yet it pushes on. I wonder how similar we are. But I don't have much time to think about it before I hear someone approaching from behind.
