I quietly ease open the door to the tv room. The Hunger Games started recently, and until now I have only watched the opening ceremony, the score presentations, and the parade. My sister and brother always rush me out of the room when the real games start. I have never seen it before. I sneak a small peak inside. I take a deep breath. I am ready for this. I won't get nightmares like how Emiline and Preston say I will. I don't want to watch it really, but I have to know what's going on.

I wait to see if Preston or Emmiline will suddenly block me out as they always do. Emiline and Preston are nowhere to be seen. They could be on the couch. I don't know. I take a peek. I see Ceaser Flickerman laughing on TV. Up besides his head a video of the girl a year older than me from five cutting off someone's head. I can't believe it. I hoped this girl would be a bit like me.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

I take a sharp intake of breath. I hoped no one heard me. It was terrifying. Ceaser roars with laughter in the background. I take another peak at the TV and see the handsome boy from district one beat up the beautiful girl from district two. I cover my eyes through the crack in the door. It's all to much. I have never seen such violence except from a peacekeeper.

"Make it stop!" I cry out loud. Tears start running down my face. How could people treat each other like this?

Today is a drawing day.

I have many days; painting days, crafting days, writing days, nothing days. Today is a drawing day, when I take smuggled pencils and put them to use. Especially to get those sadistic games off my mind. A fourth of the tributes have owned a cannon shot. Including one of District 8's representatives. No, not representative. One of District 8's heroes, who has sacrificed themselves to spare the other children who live here. I'm so sorry, Luke Davis. You deserved to live My fingers nestle under my pillow, finding a snapped pencil and smiling. I search the bed frame. There must be an open space, surely. No, no there isn't. Leaves, flowers, abstract designs dust over the old wood, showing more graphite than the oak of which it was made of. I sigh and try to find an open space on the walls, but those have long since been covered. I will have to try to salvage some paper tomorrow. Tomorrow seemed too far away,

So, I guess today is a nothing day.

My feet drum down the hall lightly. I couldn't make the floorboards creak if I tried. And as I near, I see the blonde hair of my little sister, outlined by a light that flashes inconsistently. Lily. She hears the same screams and laughter that used to plague my nightmares. She sees the images that made me shake and toss and turn for months. No. You cannot be exposed to this yet. You can't grow up this fast.But the words die on my lips. As soon as I am about to tell her to stop watching, she wails out, "Make it stop!"

I will, Lily. I will.

I make my way towards her, and my chest feels so knotted when I see her innocent brown eyes watering and tears paving shiny paths does her cheeks. I hug her to me, shutting any further images or noises that may try to get to her. My fingers immediately start to stroke her hair. "Hey, hey, it's okay." No it's not. "Sh, Lily. I'm here." I let my voice flow softly and quietly. She's too young. She's too young for death and agony and realizing that people aren't actually... people.

I was watching the games. I know its stupid and maybe suspicious for a boy from 8 to be watching the games, but I was bored. I was watching the games all the time, maybe because I never go outside that much anymore. I am rooting on Henry Fleet, or maybe Aiden Grasswood. I like them, they seem worthy. I start to watch the games as they begin. The killing was horrible, to see a girl one year older than Lily decapitating someones head. I start to hear the girl from 2 die from the boy from 1 when I hear a scream, not the girls, or the tv. Lily. I quickly turn around to see her peeking in the door, for a second I'm upset but than my heart melts, it not her fault she wanted to see the games. I run over and give her a hug along with my sister. "Its okay.." We both mutter to her, we both know how scary it is for the games but hopefully both me and one of my sisters have to experience it at one time.

I cry quietly in my brother's and sister's arms. Tear tracks stain my face with their silver streaks. My breathing is heavy and deep. How could people treat each other like this? How do they live like this? My siblings arms press around my body as if to say that I am safe there. I do feel safe.

"Hey, hey," My sister says in her calm soothing voice, "It's ok." As my body shakes more she says, "Sh, Lilly. I'm here." I know that she is there. She will always be there for me. If she isn't there. I don't know what will happen to me. Emmiline and Preston have always been there looking out for me.

I try to stop the tears from flowing out of my eyes, but they still fall down my cheeks like a cascading waterfall. I shake inside their warm embrace, "H-How could people do that to each other?" I stutter quietly in fear.

Be strong Lily. I tell myself. It was my choice to look in the room.

Be strong.
