My blood has never been pure. By the time I had taken my first breath, I was tainted. The parents I was given were beautiful. They weren't afraid to embrace the truth, even if it wasn't the popular opinion. And they taught me the truth. Of the darkness which lies just below the surface. More importantly, they taught me how to manipulate it.

Upon my birth, my body was given to nature. An innocent's blood spilled upon the earth, making me one with the darkness, one with the power. The scar still remains, a thick shining white reminder of what I am, sewn upon my forearm. As I grew, it grew with me. I do not care what others say, those who doubt the magic entwined with the ground, waiting for one willing to manipulate it. My parents taught me how to take, to recite jibberish with the intent to harm. To this day, those words branded upon my tongue, are nothing more than that. Their only translation is that of power.

I am an omen of misfortune. Where I go, it follows. I swear wherever I happen to be, it rains just a bit more. ~~The power cannot present itself in ways that are far too obvious, lest mortals burn me at the stake.~~ And sometimes, when I try really hard, I can make a breeze blow. A chilling, deathly wind much different than those of mother earth. A powerful breeze. It's a sign, I know it is. That the magic they taught me, is real. That I am a true witch. I'm sure of it.

Father used to joke that mother fucked the milkman. As I looked very little like either of them. My hair was kissed by the sun, falling in stringy, golden locks down my shoulders. Eyes, like that of the storm within, lay high above my cheeks, and lips pale as petals sit gently under a pronounced nose. My beauty is exotic, my face shard and features sharper. A jawline like that of a man's curls upward to frame unusually small ears. ~~Though they are easily covered by the unruly wire called hair~~. My neck is slender and narrow, quite unproportional with my shoulders, which were quite broad and thick. From thereon my body thins, becoming little more than sticks reaching my legs. I am powerful.

The first thing mother taught me how to do was a hex. To gather herbs into a small velvet pouch, to mutter the language of power over it's contents. And tie it with a ribbon, a small piece of hair stuck between the velvet and the lace. The hair of your victim. In the hands of a witch, like I, they are nearly uncontrollable. I can cause awful hair days, and bad luck. I can even make you trip and fall, with enough careful concentration. It doesn't doesn't happen right away, but eventually, my hexes will do you in.

Could I kill somebody?
Of course.
But I'll save my final trick for the games. ~~and prey it works.~~

I don't have a deity. One which I beg favors for, and go to in times of need. I have me. I am a witch. I need no god.

My parents would often disappear for days at a time. They'd never tell me what if was for... but I knew. They believed in something, something to watch over us. They believed it for me. So in the end, it was me who got them killed.

Though years have passed since their disappearance, there is not a day I don't blame myself for what happened. Not even the peacekeepers could solve it. Figure out why I was alone three whole days before they dragged me to an orphanage. Why such supposedly caring parents would leave their daughter without so much as a hint of where they went.

They've long since been declared dead.

We never had a funeral.

I learned the hard way I would have to hide who I was. That what my parents had taught me was something few understood and many more feared. My home, my new home became one I shared with many others. Ones who feared me, my appearance like that of an untrained animal. It was there I learned to fit in. To cover the dark purple underneath my eyes with even darker powder. To comb my hair and wear clothes that hugged my body instead of those that hung loosely off my chest. I was taught to never mutter a word of my craft, to force a smile and to act like a young lady should.
