I can't seem to shake the recent events from my mind. I haven't seen any of the individuals involved since that day. To be honest, it sort of traumatized me. Today, I'm taking one of my walks, but I refuse to go too far into the woods, now that I know wolves may lurk around the corner. I stay within vision of buildings, close enough so if I screamed, someone would hear me. There's no way I'd be as lucky as last time. This is the first time I've convinced myself to go for a walk. I kept myself locked in my room for a few days, just replaying the events in my head. It was like watching a clip from the Games whenever the tributes would get attacked by muttations. Except lucky for us, no one died and we were free to return home afterwards.
I come to an opening in the woods. The trees spaced apart beautifully. I feel comfortable with the open space, knowing that it'd be almost impossible for someone or something to take me by surprise. I don't sit, just stand there by a tree. Peeling the bark off, breaking it into as many tiny pieces as my fingers can bear. I don't drift off to my quiet place. I don't get the solace I normally feel when I'm out here. I don't feel any peace.
I hear staggered footsteps approaching. I rule out the possibility of an animal, the footsteps are too loud. And from my previous experience, most animals are relatively good at sneaking up on you. I still take a place behind one of the trees, just to take some caution. I poke my head out, just slightly to where one of my eyes show. The footsteps come closer so I decide to try to hurry and nip this in the bud.

"Who's there?"

The marks marr my wooden leg. The teeth marks so clearly evident where the fangs of that damn wold sank his teeth into me only to get a rude awakening as a bit of karma came back to bite him instead. I can't help but run my fingers over the marks. The deep punctured teeth marks that my small nail will fit into. It just goes to show how sharp and broad his teeth was, that wolf. His determination to really tear me down. I am the weakest of that bunch. Even more weak than that little girl whose dillusions thought they were merely pups.

"Stupid girl..." I mutter under my breath, but that little girl is far from my mind now. What does stick out is that one who was first to appear. Twice in my life, I've been saved by some girl who happens to appear out of no where in order to protect my sorry hind. The first time was that one girl who found me out in the woods. I was completely out of it, knocking on deaths door before she used her quick thinking to save my life. She had no reason to do so, but she did. Just the same as this girl whom I had only met just the other day. She had no reason to come. She had no reason to take up arms with a stick against four wolves to save me, some boy with a fake leg who was better off dead.

At least we all survived that harrowing ordeal. Today, is no different. I'm craving that adventure again. I'm desperate to get out of the clutches of my mother's hawk like eyes and senses. She's been breathing down my neck making sure that I stay where I'm suppose to. She nearly freaked out when I came home with a blood stained sleeve. Even now, as the blade picks at this peice of lumber in my hands, I still hear her voice shouting at me when she found me limping home.

I push off the wall from the outside of the house and look to the front door. Silence. Maybe I can escape now. She ought to be busy with something... A devilish smile appears on my lips as I take the crutch that I've used for quite some time as a third leg. Stuffing the knife and the wood into my pocket, I position my fingers around the hilt of the crutch and lean heavily on it. It aids me in my escape attempt to be a little bit faster than walking with one real and one fake leg. I've grown to depend on that thing some days. Even more so when I need to make a fast getaway.

"Seth! You are not going out! Last time you disappeared, you came back with claw marks from a wild animal." I cringe. I've barely gotten to the tree line when I hear that woman's shrill voice screeching through the front door. I turn barely to see her standing there, her dark hair all a mess on top of her head, with nothing more than an apron on her front, covered in some form of baking dust.

"I got to. I can't stay here all cooped up. Damn it... I need to be free!" I shout back at her. She'll never understand me. She never has and nor my dad either. I turn my back on her, listening to her voice yell out. I don't stop. I move as fast as I can and push through any obstacles in my way. Over the branches from the storm the night before. Under the low hanging trees. Desperation fueling my need to just breath in the scent of a pine and cedar. As heavy as my steps are, I'm not afraid of meeting another wolf. I would prefer it, in all honesty. Bring 'em on. I'm not scared.

"Whose there?

Immediately, I take a stop to my ambitious goal. I look around to pinpoint the noise I just heard and the only thing I can reply back in my head makes it sound like a girl's voice. The crutch in my hand raises slightly and then lowers back as I push against it to move closer where the sound occured.

"The big bad wolf." I throw out. Only, I recognize the voice somehow as the voice keeps echoing in my memory. Shit... that was the wrong thing to say.

"Sparrowhawk?" I play with her name, adding in a new part, uncertain if the voice is really hers. Maybe I'm only imagining it? Wake up, Seth!

I wait silently for a response, contemplating if I should just go ahead and run. The only downfall of being in the woods is you never know who's coming. You'll never know if they're friendly or not and it'd be in your best interest to not find out. As I start to position myself to bolt, I hear his voice.

"The big bad wolf."

That's would normally be a response that would confirm that I should run but the voice has a tinge of familiarity to it. The tones and shape of his voice bounce through my head and I search from the memory. It slowly comes to me, "HELP!" "Die?" "RUN!" Seth. I remember clearly now. It was just a few days ago. The event that I can't seem to shake from my mind. It's playing over and over and I have to shake my head, almost viciously, to make it stop.
I decide to make my appearance from behind the tree. I smile and shake my head at Seth who I can tell was trying to put the pieces together of who I might be as well.

"So, here we are again. No wolves this time though, right?"

I recognize her voice the moment after I let out the non-humored taunt. I've grown to become defenceful in the woods. Every single time, I end up meeting a wolf, human or animal-alike, so why not go ahead and expect the worst that might happen? This time, I'm taken for a fool as the voice is of a girl. A sweet sounding voice that I know from that day. The wolves that almost killed her, yet I tried to ward them away. When she's the one that bashed his skull in completely and saved us both.

Upon her sudden appearance, I feel giddy. I'm not sure if it's just the familiar face that is playing with me right now, or the fact that she's came to my aid when I probably looked like a damn fool laying on the ground about to be wolf chow. I just know that it's actually a pleasure to see her sweet face. Damn... those marks. Damn freakin wolf. Why did you have to do that to her? I was your target. Not her. Internally, a bit of fire raises up in my throat.

"Obviously. I am a wolf, didn't you know? Third time I've encountered the beasts out here, though, each time the company was different. I can never die." I throw those words at her, knowing how I told her, in my most pessimistic voice that day that we were going to die. I regret that now. "Does that make me invinsible, or just my leg?"

I raise my leg up just a bit, to show off the mauled leg. Somehow, I've made it work for the time being, although the crutch is definately needed now in order to stay upright. No telling when the new leg will be done. I reach behind me, and expose a hunting knife that's large enough to cover my entire hand. "Come prepared this time. You doing alright?" I question her. She knows what I mean though. The marks on her face were pretty scary to look at when they were being tended to.

I kind of giggle at his seemingly newfound optimism. The flashback comes, showing me the moment before all action when he was sure we would die. Of course, I thought we were going to die, too. But I didn't show it, not vocally anyway. I wanted to seem as confident as possible. Try to show everyone around that I'd make everything okay. I look down and see what horrible shape his leg is in. The tinge of regret, of not being able to protect him better, stings my heart. If I could have, I would have taken all that pain. For him. I hardly know him but I feel as though I know him well enough to know that he didn't deserve the beating he got. And he did save me. I'll be forever indebted to him for that. I'm not sure what would have happened if I had left the world that day. I try to stop thinking about it. Seth reveal a large knife and it strangely comforts me. It's good to know that if by some kind of horrid luck we were attacked again, at least one of us would have a weapon.

"Come prepared this time. You doing alright?"

As he say this, I feel the still-healing scars on my face start ricocheting pain through my head. I try to hide the wince that adorns my face but it escapes me anyway. I try to laugh it off. The way I did when I came home that day and my father and brother lectured me for hours. I know they lecture me because they love me but I wish there was a way I could tell them, when things like this happen, it's my own decision to be involved. I left them speechless when I went on a rant about if it was them in that situation, what would they have done? Would you have left him to die? Just walk away, not thinking twice? If your answer is yes. you're a horrible person and I'm ashamed to be related to you.

"I'm doing better. I'm still healing but hey, I'm alive. Any plans on fixing that mangled ol' leg of yours?"

I laugh again, just so relieved to be in Seth's presence again. I feel so close to him, knowing what we've been through together. Somehow, as strangers, we were willing to sacrifice our lives for each others. What would we do now, now that we're actually acquainted?

A terrible try at a joke actually has her giggling to it. I'm unsure why, but I'm going to say it's to the reference of my leg that made her laugh. Afterall, it was the first thing she noticed about me. Surely, her mind is overtaken with wanting to know why I'm having to even use an ole wooden leg to be as normal as possible. Luckily, she isn't laughing at me. I can tell. Marcus does though, and her laugh is no where near as insulting. So, I just go with it.

Just going with the flow is also taken to a literal thing as I show her the big hunting knife, telling her that I had came prepared this time. Never again, will I find myself out and about without something to defend and protect myself or someone else. I've learned my lesson more than once, if only I would keep that in my head. Always have to learn the hard way... That day was just too close of a call for comfort. Not necessarily for myself, but for her and the other two as well.

Trying to be compassionate to the marks on her face, I try to word it the best way I can so I don't offend her or make her feel bad for what the wolf did to her. I'm not exactly sure what to say or how to say it, but it still comes out. I'll deal with the consequences of my words afterwards like always. No big deal.

"I'm doing better. I"m still healing but hey, I'm alive. Any plans on fixing that mangled ol' leg of yours?" So, she's curious about leg a little more than I thought and she's not shy about asking straightforward. A half grin appears, one side of my lips moving upward with a shrug of my shoulders.

"Dunno. Dad's going to see about constructing a new one, but I kinda dread it. I'm sure it won't be the same. Higher or lower than this one. Little skinnier or fatter. It's heavy enough to pull around without him tinkering with some sort of style, ya know? Only good thing about the new leg is that it won't be covered with puncture wounds and broken peices and I won't worry about falling flat on my face. Didn't think I'd say this, but I'm almost glad to have had a bad leg that day. Getting my leg chewed on isn't that appetitzing. You know?" I tease and use the crutch to get myself over a log and to lean against the next tree. "Have you seen the others since that day? How the girl is or seen the guy that came in all heroic like. Some superhero."

I end up tapping the crutch against the ground a few times, unsure of really what else to talk about around the girl. I barely know her at all. Just her name and a few little details that I could snatch while she talked with Andrei.

Seth rambles on, I've never heard him talk so much at once. It gets me giggling again but I try to suppress it because I don't want him to think I'm teasing him. He comes a little closer, leaning on a nearby tree. If I hadn't been there, I would have never guessed what he'd been through. He seems so calm and collected, unlike myself. I try to portray myself as that kind of person, but it's all an act. I've honestly been terrified since that day. I wish I could channel that courage I had then into my everyday life but I suppose I've used it all up.

"I haven't seen either of them around. I've been trying to find Lila but no luck. I hope she's doing okay. Mentally, ya know? That's a lot for a kid her age to see."

I pause as the fear of thinking we lost her floods back to me. I always thought I'd grow up one day to have children but this had undoubtedly changed my mind. The Games themselves should have been enough to scare me away from reproducing but just knowing and seeing first hand all the dangers so close to home made me feel closed off from that idea forever.
Seth taps his crutch against the ground a few times. I can tell this is a sign of feeling slightly uncomfortable. It's odd how little I know of him but I care about him, I do. I couldn't tell you in what way, just yet, but everything about him seems so familiar. After what we went through, I feel like we could take on anything. Granted, we barely made it out of the last ordeal... the point is, is that we made it.

"Do you want to walk with me? It'd make me feel a lot better."

"Have you seen the others since that day?" I question her as I lean against the tree. It's so weird being around her now. For some reason, I feel giddy. It's enough that my words seems to ramble on out of pure randomness in order to hear that sound from her. It's better than the fear in her voice from the other day. So, this is definately something that's put me in a really good mood. To accent it though, I wait for the answer, but it's offsetting. She's not seen them since that day. I'm only a little worried about the girl as well, but only because I would have felt responsible for her if she'd been hurt by the wolf. As for Sparrow... the guilt is there, of course.

"Yeah. Harsh. Least she wasn't hurt, ya know?" I tell her with a shrug of my shoulders. Against the tree, I'm glad that I've gotten to rest against something. My arms feel heavy from lugging around the crutches today instead of hauling my own tail around slowly. With the temporary fix on my leg, the less weight pressing down on the patch job the better. Guess I'll just be screwed for a couple of days.

The crutch in my hand moves quickly, and ungently against the ground, digging tiny little rings into the soft ground, flinging a few peices of dirt and leaves away with each jerk. Casually, I do glance at her face, though my eyes keep lingering on those marks for merely seconds before I advert my gaze. It's like a permanent reminder of what I caused for her to get them. If I had stayed silent...

"Do you want to walk with me? It'd make me feel a lot better." Whoa! Where did that come from?

"I'm surprised you're not afraid to be around me. I am the one that they always flock to. What with my bad luck of running into danger. Last chance. Get out now while you still can." I warn her in a teasing manner, though I don't think she will. My hand finds the knife and I touch the hilt of it before pushingn off from the tree, getting my crutch ready to take my weight. "Anywhere in particular you want to go, Sparrow? If you're just out for a walk, I might have a place to just kinda hang out?"

Seth's reassurance that there was an upside of the little girl not being hurt makes me feel slightly better. And I can't help but laugh at his joking accusation that I should be scared to be around him. But as he leans against the tree I give him a glance over and notice even more than he isn't in the best shape. His leg is hardly holding him up, looking like it could give in at any moment. The scratches and bruises he received throughout the struggle haven't done much healing either. I can tell by his posture that he's tired. I'm sure the extra work he has to do just to walk, now that he's without the extra support of his prosthetic, is exhausting. I wish I could lend a hand to help him, but I don't want to make feel helpless. He is still a guy after all. I've learned enough from my brother that most guys don't take help so easily. They want to prove that they can do it and that they can do it by themselves. Oh, boys.

I notice that as I was checking out Seth's physical status, he himself was nonchalantly examining my facial scars, before he suggests,

"Anywhere in particular you want to go, Sparrow? If you're just out for a walk, I might have a place to just kinda hang out?"

He has a place to hang out? I never see much around here but trees and... more trees. And apparently the occasional wolf. The scenery seems identical all around, so I can't help but be curious as to what he has in mind.

"Yes, I'd love to see it. Lead the way."

We trek through the woods for a little while before I start to get nervous as the buildings and houses go out of my view. The farther we go, the less likely anyone would be able to hear our screams if something were to happen. Seth has his knife though, why couldn't I be smart enough to bring some sort of weapon? Granted, I don't have any... but I may as well be asking to die coming out here unarmed again. I notice the farther we go, the bigger the trees get. I haven't been out this far before, never really felt the need to. I was under the impression that it would all be the same, no matter how far I walked. An especially large tree comes into my vision, and the closer we get, the larger I realize it is. Its colossal. It's the biggest tree I've ever seen in my life. The first thing that comes to mind is that it's a wonder that no one has tried to cut it down yet. Although, it is a ways out here so no lumberjack has probably happened upon it yet. Or if they have, thought it was just too beautiful to destroy. Seth stops only feet from the tree and I look at him, questioningly. I try not to sound offensive because this tree is pretty impressive.

Oh so quaintly, I somehow end up blurting out about having somewhere to hang out at. That's never happened before and clearly, I've given up an old spot of mine. Not even my sister knows of it, yet I've known this girl only for a day. Are you crazy? You can't get down there. Think your mangled leg will let you? You'll be making a fool of yourself... and in front of her, too. I curse myself internally as those words brought a positive answer from the girl in front of me. In a way, it has me grinning on the inside while on the outside, I fight with keeping my excitement, yet nervousness down. I give off a shoulder shrug in responce to her wanting me to lead the way. Waving her in my direction, I take her far into the woods where this huge tree will be waiting.

Most of the way, I keep pushing against the weight bearing down on my leg, acting like it isn't bothering me. In front of her, I can't show weakness. I've shown it once when death threatened me yet she didn't. She was the brave one to step in front of me and take the lead. The roles are reversed and the situations are different as the trees begin to change the longer we walk. Slowly, the ground begins to become more ivy covered and bare, with less sunlight to pass by the leaves of the high up trees. Moss covering most of the sides of the north end of the trees before we make it and when we do, I am more than happy to have this moment of rest.

Flexing my fingers in and out, I note the redness around the tips of my fingers, but hide it from the girl who seems so facinated by the enormous tree that stands in front of us.

"Is this is?" She asks, clearly amazed by the size. Hadn't she ever seen trees this big before? Hasn't she been out this far? My back hits the tree as I roll my head backwards for a moment then look at her.

"Yeah. Didn't think I'd be bringing you to some rinkydink tree? There's plenty around seven. This one is different though. Wanna see why?" I taunt her, wanting her to answer my question, but before she does, I jerk upwards away from the tree and walk around the tree until I find the spot that's been covered with weeds and debris. With my crutch, I start pulling away the vines that have overtaken the entrance. "I havn't been here in a few months since... well, a while. I hope it's not all fallen in."

I lean down, struggling just a little with the way the mangled leg doesn't work with me, but I manage. I dig around the entrance, in between the roots of the tree until it's clear of the overgrown weeds. "Here we go." I tell her and wave her down to kneel beside me as I reach in and get a hold of a flashlight that's tucked away in a bag. Clicking it on, I hand it to her. "You light... lead the way."

My eyes run up and down this enormous tree in front of us, I take in every crevice and moss covered edge, trying to fathom exactly how long this tree has stood here. Probably long before I was born, before my parents were born, grandparents even. I imagine the view I'd get if I managed to climb to the top. I'm not exactly a fan of heights but I can only imagine that view being the most breath taking thing I've ever seen. I'd be able to see the whole district from up there. Maybe even be able to reach up and touch the sky, play with the clouds, jump and float off into the atmosphere. Of course, theres no way I, or probably anyone else for that matter, could make it even halfway up this mammoth of a tree. I can tell Seth can see my amazement when he proudly says,

"Yeah. Didn't think I'd be bringing you to some rinkydink tree? There's plenty around seven. This one is different though. Wanna see why?"

I start to nod excitedly but before I can even complete this gesture, Seth is already halfway around the tree, searching for something. I watch as he utilizes his crutch to start pulling moss and vines away from a section of the tree's massive trunk. What appears behind all this debris widens my eyes. I'm overcome with excitement as a little entrance is revealed.

"I haven't been here in a few months since... well, a while. I hope it's not all fallen in."

He reaches in for something and I'm wondering what it could possibly be as he pulls out a bag. From inside the bag, he retrieves a flashlight and clicks it on. He shines it down into the entrance momentarily before he hands it over to me.

"You light, lead the way."

I take a few steps in, the flashlight illuminating the way. The core of the hollow tree dips down a bit, below ground level. And for myself, it's a bit of a challenge to get down without tumbling over. As I make a good way in, I turn back to make sure Seth is making his way okay. I reach a hand out behind me, offering it to him.

"Here, let me help you down."

With the flashlight clicked on, I hand it over to the girl. She takes it without question as I tell her to be the light and to lead the way. It don't even donn me until she's already going in that I should have been the first, but the pride of looking like an idiot is real. Anything could be down there and I'm dooming her already by sending her in first. For all I know, we could be walking into the den of the wolves, both literally and figuritively. That's when my hand touches my knife for a moment before I follow her into the darkness, trusting where the light had already been.

I never expected it would be difficult to get into this hideout before losing a leg. Before, it was so easy to get in and out without a care in the world, being able to bend and step where I wanted, but as she leads the way, she's having much better luck than I am. Damn it. Just great. Can't even get to where I come to relax. Guess this place is going to be better off as a den for wolves cause I certainly can't get down here anymore. A misstep has me landing fast on my rear as the appendage turns the wrong way.

"Damnit.." I curse silently, though it still echoes. A moment later, I hear and see a helpful guide. The girl in front of me offers me her hand and a kind word. Unlike any other time, It would be rude to dimiss the help. Not to mention, I don't think I would from her, for reasons that I can't explain. "K."

The crutches are placed into one hand as I get up and my hand finds hers. Even if the flashlight is pointed in the opposite direction, I'm sure she can make out the smile on my face that I try to bite back by throwing my sight downward to my feet. I try to watch my footing, holding on to the wall of the hollowed out tree and roots as well as anything that will allow me some stability. Once the steep part is overwith, it immediately opens up to a larger area, enough headroom to stand but scraping the top for me. Luckily, the girl is shorter and thus it'll make it easy on her to stand.

"Shine the light this way." I touch her arm and guide the arm that has the flashlight in it toward the back wall, opposite the entrance. As the light flashes against it, so does something that sparkles. "Fools gold, Sparrow. Ever seen it? Can't remember where I found this, but it was somewhere near here I think. Just used this place as a small treasure trove, is all." Putting the hand crutches back into play, I make my way over to that wall and shuffle around with some of the things I'd collected for years. "I know it's kinda stupid to have this place, but rather be here than work or home, ya know? I've missed this place. Go ahead and look around. To the left, is another opening. Can't tell you how many times and hours I've spent down here digging this place out. I'm surprised it hasn't fell in yet. You know?"

I lean against the solid part of the underground wall and slide down until I'm sitting. "So, do you like?"

Seth accepts my hand and I hoist him up onto his feet. This brings back memories from the day with the wolves. It reminds me of how amazing it was that complete strangers worked together perfectly, to overcome. That never once did I hesitate to protect Seth and he did the same for me. And I wouldn't have done anything different that day. Even if the marks on my face leave a life-long scar and that repulses and disgusts strangers, it'll forever remind me that there's good in people. That there's good in me. It'll remind me of the silent alliance we made against the wolves. The unspoken agreement, made in milliseconds, to fight for each other. It's a wonder to me, how it all just played out the way it did. And I consider these markings on my face and shoulders a blessing, because it could have been worse. I could be dead. Seth could be dead. Lila and Andrei could be dead. But we're not. And these scars prove how hard we fought to make that so.

Seth directs me to shine the light at the wall in front of us and as the bright beam hovered over the wooden walls, I can't hide the amazement from my face as something shines and gleams before me.

"Fools gold, Sparrow. Ever seen it? Can't remember where I found this, but it was somewhere near here I think. Just used this place as a small treasure trove, is all."

I'm mesmerized as I study each trinket and treasure that Seth has laid out. I've never seen anything like it. I guess this is something I missed out on from being to scared to go too deep in the woods. All the hidden beauties of our district, things I've never even heard of or seen before, Seth has collected all into one place. And it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Just all of it. The tree, the secret hideout, the little treasures. This day has suddenly turned into one of the best days ever as my eye are opened to how beautiful our district can be. It used to be all tree's to me. But now I see there's so much more. Seth see's it. And he's shown it to me. Why he's shared this with me, I couldn't exactly say. But I'm so glad he did.

Seth finishes explaining some more things about the place and pointing out this-and-thats to me before taking a seat against one of the wooden walls.

"So, do you like?"

Of course I like it. How could I not? It's overwhelmingly beautiful and eye opening or maybe it's just be being the sheltered child that I am but I'm just amazed. I still can't keep my eyes from darting from one side to the other, wanting to run my hands all over everything, wanting to just be here all the time.

"I love it, Seth. It's beautiful. You've done something amazing here. I could just stay here forever!"

"So, do you like?" I question her, letting the partial smile linger on my lips for longer than I would want to. I don't understand any of this. The smiles? Showing her someplace that not even my sister has ventured it. This is my spot. My home away from home. Now, she has been brought to it and it is being shared now. Isn't that the point of something like this? Finding a friend to hang out with? Not to be alone? At least this one I can trust. At least, I don't have to worry about her ratting out my spot and this place being found out.

"I love it, Seth. It's beautiful. you've done something amazing here. I could just stay here forever!" This is weird. Awkward in it's own little way. Now that she knows where this place is, I can only hope this place stays put and doesn't fall in when I'm not here. If it hasn't fallen yet, it won't. Reasoning overtake my thought process and the rest is history.

"You can come here whenever ya want. I don't care. Just.. don't make it a habit to bring people here. Not even my sis knows of this place. Kinda a secret, got it? I can only imagine my dad finding out about this place. All those times that I snuck off. They never could find me. Cleverly concealed." I tease and I turn one of my crutches upside down and poke up into the trunk of the tree overhead. A small amount of dirt crumbles and falls but it decorate the floor even more.

"I think one day, I'll build walls and make it sturdy. Might see about building out further and follow the roots. Certain days when you want to hide." The only day I can really think of when I want to hide is the reapings. That was particularly hard this year. I would have been dead from the moment I stood on the pedistal if I had been called. Luckily, I'm saved, though the rest of my years will be compromised just for my present circumstances. "So, Sparrow-hawk. Imma ask but you don't have to answer... what did your folks say about the wolf attack? Or did you tell them what happened?"

Senitive subject, I know and to come out so bluntly makes me shrug it off as if it's only a random and social conversation like normal.

I make the promise in my head to never bring another person to this spot. Even though Seth is being nonchalant about it, I can tell this place means a lot to him. He's worked hard on it and spent a lot of days here, and I wouldn't want to do anything to take it away from him. It's not like I'd have anyone to bring here anyway, so he doesn't have much to worry about. I just silently nod, reassuring him that his secret spot is safe with me.

As he thumps on the make-shift ceiling with his crutch, and as a small amount of dirt seeps down, I almost feel afraid that it's all about to fall down on top of us. He doesn't seem to have a shred of worry and after all of this, there's no way I couldn't trust his judgement. He tells me stories of his plans to build and expand and I can already see it in my head. More beautiful than it already is. With walls and hallways and maybe even lights, if we worked extra hard. We. I automatically included myself in Seth's plans. That's odd... For me anyway.

"So, Sparrow-hawk. Imma ask but you don't have to answer... what did your folks say about the wolf attack? Or did you tell them what happened?"

I think back to the day I got home. There was no way I could hide it. By the time I got a glimpse of my reflection, I knew I was never going to hear the end of it. I figured Dad and Dax would never let me leave the house again. But after hours of arguing and trying to convey my point of view, they eventually decided that no punishment was in order. I mean, wasn't the searing pain crossing my face enough punishment? I didn't really want to bore Seth with an hour long story about my dysfunctional family so I tried to give him the short version.

"My dad and brother were pretty livid at first. I thought they were going to lock me in my room forever. But we ended up working it out in the end... How about your folks?"
