DIVING: 10M PLATFORM

Welcome to the Individual Diving tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The diving pool is located in the aquatics center, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you all warm up with your coaches before your turn comes to dive, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready for their dives, and then paste the code [*roll range="1-10"] without the asterisks THREE TIMES (you are taking three dives) into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. You will roll a number 1-10 on each dice, and that represents your execution score out of ten. In addition to this, each dive will have a different difficulty score, which will be added to your execution scores to get your actual score for each dive. In the end, all these will be added up to determine your overall score.

The difficulty degrees of each dive are as follows:

Dive 1 - 5.0
Dive 2 - 5.8
Dive 3 - 6.5

Feel free to roleplay your character performing each dive/their reaction to each dive/etc after you roll.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your dives whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

The light shimmered and danced breathlessly across her soft and pure skin. She raised a hand to her face as she applies the last bit of white water proof eye liner to her eyes. Then she sighed, she look astounding, far better than any of the other divers. Excitement coursed through her body taking hold of her in its thrilling grip. Today she would show all of Panem the beauty of Fox Arctic. She would show them district two's finest, she had been selected to compete in this event after all. This event was perfect for her, she would dazzle everyone with her beauty then slay them with her graceful dives. She had spent the last three hours ensuring she looked phenomenal, she would not have her debut be ruined by the slightest imperfection. Even her suit was a marvelous creation of her own. Mainly gold but white and light blue snow flakes were dotted across its surface. Today she was determined to stun everyone and take home the gold medal of course, she would settle for nothing less.

Final someone came to fetch her saying it was time to her event to begin. Her excitement was now brimming through her gorgeous smile, "Alright then let us go." With a flick of her golden white locks she followed the small man to the main diving pool. It was breath taking lights were being shone against it and it looked like a marvel of pure perfection, just like herself. As time elapsed she ensured to always let the cameras see her bright side and she even small talked with some fans for the good looks. Then the moment truly came, time for her to dive.

As she climbed the stairs to the ten meter platform her heart hammered in her chest threating to burst any time. She forced herself to calm down before stepping out to the edge. Here she knew all the audience's eyes and all of the nation was watching her. She knew she had to win, had to dazzle the heavens, but yet she was worried. If she failed she would be nothing. And she knew that wasn't an option taking one last moment in the light she began her Olympic debut.

In all honesty she had not done much diving in her life. Yes she had swam, her district basically enforced some kind of invisible law that you had to be a competent swimmer, otherwise you were fucked. Especially when over half of the employment was involved in some sort of water activity. The downsides to living in district four; you had to learn how to swim. Some people would say that was a good thing, but Eva didn't want to waste her time learning how to flail in the water just so she could stay afloat. Basically, in her opinion, swimming was an elegant version of flailing in the water so you didn't drown. Who the fuck needed elegance, if you didn't want to drown just flail a bit wilder. Maybe that was just stupid, but, at the very last she wouldn't drown, because she knew how to swim and from the basic lessons she had received in swimming she had tried out diving. Diving had been fun, she had been bale to leap off a 10m platform into the water doing all sorts of flips and spins in the short amount of time between her collision with the liquid below.

She stretched her limbs, bathers tugging at her skin as her body lengthened. They were son constricting, but with her body shape she didn't complain, it showed off her good looks and if she couldn't get anything else out of this stupid-ass competition, hopefully she could get a few interested boys. She needed a fun time, and the Olympic games was bound to be filled with good looking boys in need of some fun as well. The water stood below her, ten meters below her to be exact, it glittered, the light from the roof reflected on the water. It was time to jump, so she stepped forwards, and she breathed, feeling the air shift through her lungs, she moved closer and her muscles tightened. When she felt it was right she jumped.

How do you even dive?

Why was I here?

I stand on the edge of the board, my toes poking over the edge slightly, my knees bent and my arms out to the side as I fought to keep my balance. In life I have always wanted to do things that were out of the ordinary, ever since me and my twin escaped that day I have never held back because I didn't want to take things for granted. Maybe that was why I was here now, standing on this unstable platform, my eyes dancing over the sparkling water that almost seemed inviting to my wide eyes.

it couldn't be that hard right?

All i had to do was do a little bounce thing and propel myself into the water. I had watch a couple of the others, some had manged to do a flip or two with a perfect langoing and others seemed to flop, their body hitting the waters surface unevenly leaving a huge red mark and pain that lasts for minutes.

I take a deep breath, my hands catching each other over the top of my head before a do a bounce which does not involve my feet leaving the board and lean forward, allowing my body to fall with the momentum towards the water. My hands hit first then my knees which is wrong because a burst of pain is slapped across my thighs.

I almost seem to do a dive almost Identical, but instead of my thigh flowering with pain, the back of my calfs do, as I over kick, my body falling rather awkwardly towards the waters surface.

My last one is the best. My legs not bending at the knees, nor flying to far over my head. They are straight as my body slips past the surface and into the depths of the water. Almost perfect bar from the fact that my dive was he most simple dives that anyone could preform.

I believe that diving is similar to that of dancing. It takes artistry and skill, hand eye coordination, and impeccable timing—all skills I usually do not possess. I hadn’t really been great at it, average at best, but besides the deafening shouts of “Point your toes and straighten your arms. Do I really have to tell you again, Tempi?” I had enjoyed it. It felt like dancing in the rain when no one was watching, as if you were falling,

I had never been afraid of misplaced footings or stumbling blindly, so the thought of launching myself off towards the world of water at my feet had never struck fear into my heart, but excitement. It was a rush of adrenaline, like a race to the bottom—but as I was told time and time again, you weren’t to rush. How could you not though? The speed with which you fell only increased as time passed and it seemed like every second passed faster and faster until you crashed.

Crash wasn’t the prettiest term, but it sure did describe most attempts at making myself look like I knew what I was doing.

Diving wasn't his thing. Sure he practiced and was ready for it, but sometimes he was off. Today was the first day or the Olympic events. Diving was one of the first. He was there to show off himself a bit. He was stretching and going through his dives in his head. Then he thought about the girls and guys around him in almost nothing. His mind was racing to some other thoughts and a grin took to his face. The first dive he messed up on because he wasn't in the right mindset. He was thinking to much about other things. The second one he did much better in, he was in the right mind and was ready to do the dive. The last one was difficult and he messed up a bit more than the last one he did, but he did it. He made it through diving.

Today is your calling, and you just know that this event has your name written all over it. After all, you are the little swimming bird and who else can fly as well as you? You hate that you are first, but at least it sets a precedent for the other competitors. They will see your winning dives, and they will feel disheartened. They will flail into the water like the bumbling bears they are, for nobody is as graceful when it comes to this. You practice diving off that sea wall all the time. You used to do it for your grandmother, don't you remember?

Sure you may have come in last place in the 100m freestyle, but that was only because you wanted to throw them off of your scent. Make them relax and think this was easy. You would show them. You were going to go out there and execute your dives almost perfectly.

You mess up on the second dive more than the others, but you are pleased to see that throughout at least the next seven divers you have the highest score. You are definitely going home with a medal, the only question is: will it be bronze, silver or gold? You hope for the gold, of course, but you must wait for the final two to go before you know your fate.

She doesn't know what she was thinking when she signed up for Diving. In fact she doesn't think she was thinking at all - just another robotic movement in a floury of rushing arms all desperate to get a taste of the Olympics. A part of her ached to see the archery spots all taken but she hasn't touched her bow in weeks, so the water events would have to do. In all honesty, she needed a breath of fresh air, a new challenge to focus her mind on. Firing arrow after arrow became boring - the need to learn and train compete knotting up inside of her like a nervous collection of familiarity. She didn't thirst for the water or the glory: she thirsted for the challenge.

Eyeing up the others came all too easy. It was ingrained into her skull like the process of swimming one stroke after the other. This was the easy part - the hard part came to the actual event. Grace, skill, quick-thinking - surely she could suffice enough to gain a good score.

I am graceful, she thinks as she climbs to the top of the world. I am skillful. I am sharp. I can win, I can win, I can win.

She simply must.

It's amazing what a little water can do for a person. Water washes away all my fears, all my worries, everything because it makes me a new person. When I'm near the water, my life seems like nothing has ever gone wrong. Each and every day of my life is spent either surfing or swimming. The best way to get into the ocean is to jump off the pier if I'm not riding a wave. It's never been any formal training for this event, but I can only hope that it'll help me out today. My hands shake at my side. Butterflies dance in my stomach as I remain hidden from sight of everyone that's watching. I watch several jump before me, and they make it look easy. They make it look like everything is completely perfect, but it'll come naturally for me.

When it's my turn, I make my way onto the diving platform one step at a time. The lights glimmer across the water shining into my eyes making it impossible to see, but for now that's not my biggest worries. I just want to preform well. I want to make sure my parents are watching down on me with smiles because I've made them proud. I just wish they could be here to see this in person. I stand at the edge of the platform with a large grin spread across my face. I hope you all are watching. This is for you. And I dive.

It was a horrible dive. I felt it the moment I left the platform. Everything about it wasn't anything how it should have been. I wanted to hide my face from the sight of everyone, but I couldn't give up; not yet. I still had plenty of time to shine. I got out of the water, wiped the fear from my face and climbed up on the platform again. This time I was going to do much better. I stood at the edge. Mom, Dad, this is for you. And I dive.

A large grin spread across my face the moment I emerged from the water. I felt good about this one. I felt like I had done well, and hopefully everything would turn out in my favor. I made my way over towards the ladder as I quickly wiped the water from my eyes. It felt good doing something that I enjoyed. I only hoped that it would be entirely worth it. I climbed the platform again. One more chance to show the world who I am. One more chance to make my parents proud. This is for you. And I dive one last time.

Would Dad be proud of me?

If I finally did something great, if I were to to better than all of the older, wiser, more experienced careers while he took a day off from his busy life as the one and only Fabian Perch, Mayor of District Four, would it be enough for him? Or would it be the same piece of shit pat of the back I get and that temporary, obviously not legitimate claim that he is proud of me?

Of course I know the best method of finally getting him out of that damn office and back home is by winning the games, because then what would his excuse be? Winning would mean all the money we could want, and that seems to be his and everyone else's biggest concern these days.

I climb the stage with my ribs suddenly caging a dozen butterflies, and when one of them threatens to fly out of my mouth I have to take a deep breath and steady myself on the ladder. I can do this. It's jumping into a big puddle of water, for Ripred's sake.

The first time I jump, I am already holding my breath before my feet are off the board.

Diving couldn't be that hard. You just jumped off of the platform and into the water, right? As long as you had good form, the judges couldn't ding you too badly for it, at least Shiv didn't think so. If they did, they were stupid. They were probably stupid anyhow, most of the judges were. Shiv didn't like them much, especially since she'd just missed a bronze medal in long jump by literally a hundredth of a meter. The stupid official who measured probably got it wrong, there was no way she hadn't at least tied the other stupid... whatever. This was a new event, a new chance to kick ass.
