I made a promise.

That is the only reason I am here.

I made a promise to Pillar, and a promise to myself, that I would start coming around more. There was no good reason why the two of us have drifted apart over the years. People say time creates a different kind of distance, and I believe it more now than I ever have before. We were rarely separate, despite my constant annoyance with the barbie-esque girl, and before too long, our parents had gotten what they wanted and the two of us were best friends. In all honesty, I think they expected us to grow up and get married.

Oh, how terrible it will be when they find out that I have completely ruined the chance of that ever becoming of us. First, I lost touch with the girl. Me, not her. I will admit I found myself a bit embarrassed when my friends pointed out that I was sitting with the weakest link in the Fray household. Second, it was me that never tried to pick things up and put them back together, though I was trying to now, and besides, she always could have done some of the dirty work herself. Third, I happened to find a pair of Fray arms wrapped around my neck that were not hers; they were not any girl's, in fact, but a boy's. Kaiser's.

He has actually been something of a pest to my thought process, always popping up at random in the most ridiculous times, like training, or a lecture in class, or anytime I try to get some homework done. My mind goes from being perfectly concentrated, to being back in that room, so close to the oceans in District Four that I could still hear waves on the shore, his lips against mine and not a single regret for letting them touch. He was my first, though I would never admit it if anyone were to ask me, and I cannot escape the need for him to be my second as well, and my third, and fourth.

I made a promise to Pillar, and that is why I am here. It is not for Kaiser, and though seeing him would be a bonus, I am here for Pillar. I made a promise to Pillar, so I reach up and wrap my fist on the door thee times, then step back in anticipation. Of course, answering the door with no shirt, bedhead, and that always attractive smirk, is Kaiser Fray.

I swallow a knot that appears from thin air in the base of my throat, and try to blink through the blush that threatens to show my emotions. "Hi, um, Kaiser. I'm here for... because Pillar. For Pillar, I mean. To see her." I smile to hide the ghastly expression that would have taken over my mug had I not.

What?!

Three seconds of looking at him. That is all it takes before I become some blithering idiot that can't even speak properly. I almost save myself the humiliation that I am sure will follow by turning around and leaving, but when I try to move, I am frozen in my place, my eyes looking into his as he tries to decipher the ridiculous, not purposefully coded message I have just tossed his way. So, since I can't find it within myself to leave, I place my hands on my hips and nod. I may look like a fucking idiot, but I am still going to be confident, and I am still going to be cute. "So can I come in?"

Kaiser Fray

Surprisingly, Kaiser Fray was a morning person.

Unless he was suffering a pounding headache from a visit to hangover city, he was typically in high spirits after sunrise. Today was no exception. Golden streams peaked through his bedroom curtains and roused him from beneath his blankets, reminding him that today was one of the days he could sleep in without consequence. No school, no training sessions, no chores – well, maybe a few chores, but he had all damn day to do that – no responsibilities. He could remain nestled in his sloppy cocoon and sleep until his eyes sunk into his skull, which was the plan until he heard a knock on the door.

So close.

He sighed and sat up straight. Whenever he slept in, he was usually the latest to rise, meaning he was probably the only one home at the moment. He was reluctant to crawl out of bed and answer whoever was interrupting his slumber, but stood up regardless. It felt like abandoning a cloud. He promised himself to return after addressing whoever the fuck it was. It wouldn’t be for him anyway – he wasn’t expecting visitors, and nobody ever freely visited Kaiser Fray. That would just be weird.

He shuffled to the door not really knowing or caring what to expect. His hair resembled a disheveled feather duster, and his shirt was crumpled somewhere on his bedroom floor. Appearances didn’t matter in his own home, at least not in his perspective. These were his walls, he should be able to wear whatever he wanted. Or wear nothing at all, although that would be a bit too disturbing for the eyes of his siblings. How unfortunate.

He opened the door to a familiar face. It took him a moment to absorb and recall; The Olympics, he was pretty sure. Yes, that was it. That felt like ages ago. How many people had he slept with again?

So many. But he remembered faces and names. This was Morganite something, probably Moreno or Shore. Shore had a better ring to it. Morganite Shore, the strawberry boy. ”Hi, um, Kaiser.” he started. He didn’t have the slightest clue what Morganite would be doing here, because it sure as hell wasn’t to visit him. ”I'm here for... because Pillar. For Pillar, I mean. To see her.” It sounded like stuttering word vomit, but he got the picture. Morgan was here to see Pillar. What dull company. ”So can I come in?”

He considered this for a moment. Pillar wasn’t even here, but he wouldn’t mind having Morganite come inside. The boy was fucking handsome as hell, there was no denying his radiant company. And what a way to start the morning! ”Yeah, but Pillar isn’t here,” he replied, but stepped aside anyway to create a path. ”You can visit me though. I’m much better looking.” He smirked.

I don't like this. I don't like that my first time will forever be shared with Kaiser Fray. I don't like that he happens to be a good friend of mine's older brother. Most of all, though, I don't like that I want it to happen again.

And he is giving me an offer right now.

"Yeah, but Pillar isn't here. You can visit me, though. I'm much better looking." That, he was. I bite my bottom lip in concentration. Should I take his offer? Just the sight of him has nearly made me faint, could I actually handle talking to him, or the things that surely would follow? No. Yet I still climb the steps and walk passed him into the large home.

Like my own family, or any family that is important these days, the Fray family have taken to adopting the less fortunate, which is probably the single most annoying thing ever. Especially when, like in my case, their reasons pay off, and one of the damn adopted children becomes a tribute and wins. "See, it's not that hard." Mother spat when they placed the crown on Opal's head. "If she can, why can't any of you?" Then she laughed and left the room. As much as I would like to disagree, I can't. She really has a genuine point. Sometimes, I think the entire purpose of the adoption is to make the rest of us work harder, and the question I ask myself is the same one my mother asked that night: If she can, why can't I?

The boy does not have genuine Fray blood flowing through his veins, and small, pointed ears and a large forehead are proof of my assumption that he is probably just some street-thug that got lucky. He stands in the doorway to what I think I remember as being the kitchen, his arms crossed with a wormy expression. He smirks at me and I roll my eyes. He could never be a star, not like Kaiser. Then I remember Pillar is not a real child of this house either, and I bite my tongue. She is an exception. She has always been an exception.

I turn to Kaiser, trying not to gawk at his bare torso, and place a hand on my hip. "Where to, Mr. Fray?" Part of me wants him to say his room, his bed, the other part of me doesn't. I can't get attached to him. I know Kaiser Fray. I know that to him, I am a number, and that is all I will ever be. But to me, he is so much more than that. Maybe, with time, I could become more than a number, maybe even have a weighing impression on his thought process. Maybe he'll remember more than my face if I try.

But I know deep within myself that he won't.

Why wouldn't he, though? I am an obviously fabulous person. Even my sexuality isn't enough to make people my age taunt me, because I am Morganite Shore. Even though I am ashamed of it, I have family that has won the games. My parents are some of the most wealthy District One has. I am a promising career. No one, and I mean no one, crosses me without getting burned. So why wouldn't Kaiser notice that?

(He will. He will. He will. He won't.)

Kaiser Fray

Hook, line, and sinker. Strawberry boy was inside his humble abode, his empty nest, practically in his clutches. Silence filled every corner and crevice of the Fray household; it was such a peaceful day to sleep through, but he was already more than half-awake and not so keen on missing an opportunity. The chances of a previous lay coming to visit his lame sister while he was home alone? It was priceless that it had even happened, and now Kaiser was stealing her spotlight. All of the attention was focused on him and his bare torso. He had to admit that his chiseled abs were quite the delicious sight, he couldn't blame Morganite for gawking if he ever did. His hair was a mess and he could probably use a breath mint, but all of those remedies were in his room. Surely that was where they would end up? Unless Kaiser was wasting time with cheeky smiles

Where to? That was the question. He made a show of curling his lips into another smirk, and leaned against the doorframe to the kitchen. The house was void of life, so why not spice it up with some steamy sounds? He had found out quite a while ago that the living room didn’t echo, and the basement was soundproof. Bedrooms weren’t so safe. They could reveal everything if one wasn’t careful, but what did he care? His only privacy was his hobby, and he could even share that with his twin. Besides, nobody was home. It wouldn’t matter where the deed was done, as long as nobody walked through that front door.

He couldn’t remember anyone’s schedule. He shrugged it off as no big deal. Being caught in the act was far from the worst thing that could happen.

”Anywhere you want,” he said, gesturing with his arms extended wide as if presenting him the world. ”The whole house is empty. You can pick any room you want.” He regarded the kitchen behind him, wondering if there were any strawberries in the fridge. That might please the hell out of him. Or maybe embarrass him. He liked having that effect on people, if and when it actually happened. Morgan didn’t seem so composed this time around, but maybe he was over thinking it, or misinterpreting that weird stutter he had suffered at the front door. So adorable.

”Would you like the grand tour?”

Almost every room in this house had been tainted by his sexual deviance, save for a few of the bedrooms he hadn’t bothered to invade. It wasn’t the “thrill” of potentially getting busted that tempted him to do it; he just thought it was funny, because nobody would ever know where a naked ass had been sitting. Kitchen counter? You bet. Sofa? More than once. It would probably be a disturbing thought to the rest of the family, but it made him chuckle. Maybe one of these days he would let it slip that no surface could remain unclean forever, just for the sake of witnessing a reaction.

For now, he would let it rest, and hopefully participate in more deviance with strawberry boy.
