Snow litters the ground as I hurry towards home, the bags in my hands heavy with gifts for everyone. I knew what to get most people for Ratmas but there were a few, like Jason my boss and Violet, that I honestly had no idea what to get for. What do you get the man you've begun to feel more for than as just a friend or boss or a little sister that you rarely ever see anymore? I sigh, entering the house as I gasped for breath. Soon, the house would be full of people, family members who came from all over the district to celebrate the one holiday we here in Panem actually celebrated. I smiled as I greeted my mother and father before hurrying up to my room, ready to wrap up the presents.

As soon as everything was finished, I looked at all the wrapped packages. I would see Jason the day after Ratmas so I suppose I could get him something soon. Picking up most of the presents, I made my way downstairs and deposited them underneath the little tree we'd set up. "Ratmas time is near, happiness and cheer, fun for all, that children call, their favorite time of year." I hadn't sung in a few years and I found myself singing softly, a smile forming on my lips. Why was I in such a good mood? I don't really know why I just was, something about this time of year seems to always have me in a good mood.

"Mick, did you remember to hang up the lights?" I called to my older brother.

As I walked up the path to my family home, I couldn’t wipe the silly grin plastered on my face. I always enjoyed going home, but it was always better near the holidays when the house threatened to explode with the sheer numbers inside of it. Ma had given me a list of names earlier that week, and I had tried to go over them with Wes to see if any of the names jogged my memory, but I couldn’t pin the names to faces so it would all be a surprise to me when my extended family members walked in.

I was pretty certain I was early as I had wanted to give Ma my bag of supplies before she was swept up in cleaning and cooking, and I wanted to hide the other bag filled with presents in my old hiding place in the room that I had once slept in. It was difficult, though, as the minute I opened the door, everyone was already bustling around. I laughed as Fawn shouted at Mocking about hanging up the lights. “Of course you would have the daredevil get on the roof to take care of the lights,” I muttered as I pulled Fawn in to give her a hug and a kiss to the top of her head. “Now where’s Ma? I think she might want this bag.”

Baptist Jay

I quickly put on my best outfit, the one I usually wear for the reapings, before heading into the kitchen. Mom and dad are seated at the table. They aren't my biological parents, but they've been far better parents than my biological parents have ever been. They raised me, and they love me, and they care for me. I love hearing, well reading because they wrote it down, the story of how they found me in the abandon building. It takes a strong person to bring in a child that never belonged to the family, and I'm definitely glad I can call the Jay's my family.

I leave the house in front of them because I want to play in the snow. Making those giant balls of snow to throw around at people. Maybe I'll even make a snowman. It's fun, but I can't get dirty, so I decide against it. The wind is cold as it stings my face turning my cheeks red. I wrap the tiny jacket tighter around my body hoping to shield myself as much as possible until I reach the Jay house. I don't know what's been done, or if they need me to do anything. Kicking the snow in every direction I finally reach the door. It didn't take long to turn the handle swinging the door wide open, and I did what I normally do - sit on the couch away from everyone wishing I could hear the sounds.

It’s Ratmas, with a big tree in the room, and presents to go under it. It’s a happy time of the year, where we are showered with presents and love. It has always been one of the few days, where I try my best not to bring everyone’s spirits down. Storm and I would always sit and laugh together on the floor under the tree. When we were little, I would always force Storm out of bed, to take a peek at our presents. It was a day, I looked forward too. I sat in Storm’s room right now, with a book in my hand. We slowly started to put his stuff away. Try to move on, and we did, at least it seems as if we did. I never really know if it maybe just an act.

In another room, I hear the sweet voice of Fawn. I haven’t heard her even attempt to sing in a while. I guess Ratmas miracles do come true. I leave the room, and walk towards her voice. It was something she really needed to stop freaking out about. She had this wonderful talent, but was such a wimp. She never wanted to sing in public, or for anyone. It was her secret. I told her once to stop being such an impossible little scardy cat and use her talent to get some joy into this hell hole. I don’t think she took that so well, then again no one ever appreciates my wisdom.

I came into the room, and sat myself under the small green tree. “Even with Storm gone, the seat under the tree will remain mine forever and always” I felt the utter need to announce that to the world. “To watch you peasants, decorate” my voice full of irony. I couldn’t help from laughing, as I attempted to sit up straight and flip my curly blond hair back. Instead, I managed to miss my hair and hit myself in the face.
