This was the first day, I ever got to see all of the tributes together, in one room. The feeling that 23 of us will be dead soon enough was weird. They were chatting and talking while at their training stations. I thought it would be better to train alone at first. Not that I thought much of making many friends here. What if I would win, how I would be able to look into their parents eyes. If I win I hope I wouldn’t have to look into anyone’s eyes except dads. I felt like he needed to explain me something, I hoped he would after I volunteered. I felt the need to look up to him, I was just a person who can’t survive without having someone there to look up too.

Everybody’s training outfits were the same, we were all being treated the same as well. From what I have heard, we all got the same size suites and same meals. The only thing that was different about our outfits was the numbers. There were too of the same numbers, one female and one male. They told us the districts. That was the only difference.

I didn’t recognize anyone, I didn’t bother memorizing their names or faces. I didn’t care about them, they will be dead and I have to be the last one standing. I’m not the only one who volunteered these games, at least one person does. You mostly expect it from a career districts, where the kids are robbed of their lives for the games. Yet was I much different? Dad forced pain upon me and pushed me to my limits in every direction. I was also a sacrifice for people’s entertainment. Well guess I’m here to entertain. All those years, I was nothing more than a play toy for someone else’s sickening fantasy.

Training. One week was all I had, and they didn't give us much time to train in that one week. Two full days along with a private session. It was impossible to learn all this in the allotted time. Some things were more important than others. First aid. Fighting. Whatever else I could think of, but I knew I had this in the bag. Losing isn't an option because that means death. It's strange. Trying to train around twenty-three enemies all with the same goal. All I want is to win, to fight for my survival. To prove to my family that I'm more than just another kid taking up space in the world. That's what the Capitol thinks of me. Twenty-three of us are a waste of space because in the end there's only room for one victor. One survivor. And that one person becomes royalty.

My eyes move through the training center flying back and forth from station to station wondering where I could go to escape the tension. Enemies stand all around me trying to figure out what I'm capable of, but they know nothing about me, and I'll keep it that way. Fighting here in a room trapped with everyone isn't what I would call fun, but at least I can taunt. I can hurt people with words. And my eyes land on one of the tiniest tributes here. I watched the reaping recaps, and she volunteered. District twelve had a volunteer. So did district eleven. And district eight. I don't understand why so many people had a savior looking out for them in the audience, but in the end only one will stand high. Only one will have a savior.

Moving across the room, I stop when I'm next to her. Curious as to why she volunteered. She could be my little sister, but looks are different, and I won't allow myself to get attached to her. I won't allow myself to show weakness around her because none of that is possible. After all, she is a woman. Every single woman in the world is evil. All of them deserve to die because of what she did to me. But I stop next to her and shift my gaze so she can look into my eyes. "I would say congratulations for volunteering, but you, my dear, volunteered for your death."

The dark haired boy who had told me that I made my own grave, was probably right. Though he was here just like me with the same chances of getting out. He may not have volunteered, but he also didn’t know that I had to. I needed to be the best for once. I needed to prove that I am braver, smarter, faster, and plain better than the rest. I need my dad to finally notice that I am not to be ignored. This boy, didn’t understand that pressure. I am almost a hundred per cent sure that only my siblings knew what it is like and they don’t even give a shit about me. That is why I needed it, if I win it could be my ticket to just about everything I ever wanted and need.

His eyes meet mine and I find no warmth. They are as dark as the night and it made me want to stare back. My dark stormy grey eyes couldn’t match his coldness though. All that they were ever used to showing was fear and hate. I didn’t feel anything for this boy, and therefor emotionless. They showed absolutely nothing. I couldn’t judge him, and I knew nothing about him. I only knew the district, number 9. I wrecked my brain trying to figure out his name, I must have stored it somewhere. I did watch the reaping, I just didn’t pay much attention. It came in one ear and exited the other. “Well, I can always try can’t I?” my head slightly tilted to the left. I knew the chances weren’t the greatest, but everybody did have some sort of chance. I needed to stand tall and try to put use to those filthy words dad said.

“I mean you got reaped just as well, it’s not like you don’t have a slight chance at winning. Make the most of it, besides maybe some of us needed to get away”

It's like she knows what's going on. Like she wanted to be here. Maybe she does. She did volunteer. A tiny kid from twelve. She had the freedom. The safety of another year of life, and she tossed it away. Mine was taken away. Ripped from my grasps, and I didn't have a choice about it. Nothing would change what's going on. Nothing would change the fact that I was here, that I didn't have a savior. This tiny girl was a savior to someone in district twelve. Anger surges throughout my entire body like a tidal wave crashing down on top of me sweeping me off my feet.

But she speaks of standing a chance. Surely this tiny girl knows her chances of survival aren't much. Someone, a giant career, will wipe her out. And then I'll stand by her side laughing telling her I told her so. In a way it's wrong, but who cares. Death lurks in my future. It's knocking on my door slowly pushing it open, and I shove against it keeping it closed. My time isn't up. But what choice do I have? None! I didn't ask for this to happen. She did. Not me.

"Yeah. You can go on believing that everyone stands a chance of winning. I was reaped. I didn't ask for this to happen. I didn't ask to step foot outside district nine." I hiss with my eyes narrowing with every word. "You did. You volunteered. And you're right. Might as well make the best of it before someone feasts on your bones. Before the ground consumes your body. That's what's going to happen to twenty-three of us. Who knows. A tiny kid like yourself winning? Pfft.... I'll be damned if that happens." Maybe she'll take it like a joke. Maybe she'll understand that I'm serious. But who knows. Anyone has a chance, but the odds aren't looking good for her.
