Uhm Untrivilar - District 6

The first thing about Uhm that people think when they hear how old he is, is how he looks older than fifteen. It's true, he looks as if he could pass for a seventeen year old, possibly an eighteen year old. His features just seem more mature and defined to people than that of the average fifteen year old. His eyes give away his true age, though. They're the eyes of innocence. Although he has seen and endured a lot, they still shine bright with a childish glow. His body does quite the opposite though. When he sports a shirt, you wouldn't know the difference between him having six-pack abs or not. But when he removes his shirt you can see his ribs. No matter what he does, he can't satisfy his hunger, and his stomach just won't grow.

The rest of him, though, passes as older. His skin is tan, but slightly more yellow, which helps to really outline the features of his face. He has round cheeks that greatly enhance his smiles. Unfortunately, those are very rare. He does have a large mouth, though. He has jet black hair, but with lots of sunlight exposure, it begins to turn into a reddish-brown color. And a fact that is quite unusual about Uhm is that you can tell how he's feeling by his nose. He does it completely unconsciously, but his nose is the telltale for his emotions, whether he's flaring his nostrils, scrunching it up, or widening them with his smile, his nose is the clearest indicator on his body.

Uhm's personality is completely hidden behind walls. Of course, they're figurative walls, but they're incredibly thick and they hardly ever come down. When the walls do come down, it's only for a brief period of time before they're erected again. He just feels like by keeping his emotions and feelings to himself and secret, he avoids the pain of having them toyed with. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't have to break other people's hearts with his emotions. Besides, he's happy looking out over the ramparts. It gives him a nice, clear view of the world.

To go along with his shut-in-like personality, he's also incredibly observant. He loves to just watch, people especially, but just watching. One activity he likes to do to pass the time is intensely scan a room with his eyes, just to pick out every detail. The nooks and crannies, the curves and grain of the wood or the pattern of light and dark. How long or short the walls are, if the floor is at all slanted. He observes it all. He's the best at reading people, though. He can almost see what a person is thinking. He's gotten incredibly good at picking up on subtle body language, facial expressions, and tones of speech. Not to mention the look in someone's eye. He's so predictive that he usually ends up scaring off any people who actually decide they want to talk to him. Unfortunately, this skill came from avoiding and predicting an abusive father.

Guarded behind the massive barricades of Uhm's personality, there's immense sensitivity. Uhm is very much sensitive and it's the main reason why he's erected the walls. He believes whatever people say about him and brings him on an emotional rollercoaster, so he just finds it better to hide behind the walls. It gives him his own space. His sanctuary. It protects him from his father and everyone else and just lets him be happier in general. At least, that's what he thinks.

Uhm was born into a wonderful family. He had a mom and a dad and he was an only child. The ideal family for a procreative couple living in the districts. Unfortunately, when Uhm was only seven years old, his parents died. And Uhm was crushed. They were all he knew and he loved them with all his heart. But nobody really cared about him, just his parents. He didn't find another family after they had passed.

He spent the next four years in an overcrowded foster home. He never made any friends at the foster home, and nobody tried to make friends with him. He was barely making it. Uhm was beginning to wonder why he was even trying, why he was fighting and what for? He didn't have any friends, no parents, and nobody actually even cared that he existed. If he died he was sure nobody would even bat an eye.

Then a man found him. He immediately befriended Uhm. The next day he brought Uhm food and water. And he did that every few days. Eventually, he even began inviting Uhm over for meals, because he kept hearing from Uhm how small the meals were at the foster home and how terrible the food was. It soon came to be that Uhm was at his house most of the day and during winter, even during the night. The man finally asked if Uhm wanted to be adopted. Uhm gave it thought and agreed and he's been living with the man ever since. The man has even adopted other children. He's rich, so he likes to adopt the poor children of the district and give them homes. Unfortunately, he's abusive. But only when he's drunk. And he gets drunk many nights out of the week. That's how Uhm's sealed interior began. And it's snowballed to this very day. And now he's just waiting to leave. He full well knows he could now. But it would be too hard. It would be much too hard and it's much more preferable to just try and avoid a drunken man a few nights out of the week than to fight for survival every second of every minute of every day.
