My fingers dance across the keyboard.

That's my favorite thing to do. Watching my fingers dance. And the best part is, you are also making something. You watch the product slowly unfold, line by line, character by character, on the screen in front of you. As the tapping of your fingers against the keys is heard.

A code.

That's what I'm making. Really it is a prototype. I am always making prototypes. Because who ever has the time to actually finish something. Who wants to take so long on a project that will just end fruitlessly. Not me. Not when there's so much out there.

So much.

I use that with a grain of salt. There is only so much out there, a limit. It is just because we live in a district. And I can not change that. No more than the next person. We are all out there trying to do the most we can, but we're limited. Limited to these electric fences. That fences that cage us in, that force us to stay put and do the bidding of the higher power.

Hierarchy.

That is what it is called. And as those thoughts flash through my mind, I shut my laptop. I can not sit here thinking about that. I feel my face. It is red hot. I can not even imagine what color my face must be. I get so worked up over subjects that I just can not change.

I stand up from my comfy chair and stroll over to the door. I throw on my jacket, making sure to zip it up and tuck my hands into the sleeves. It may be spring now, but the cold still lingers. Just enough to make one uncomfortable, but not enough to do any damage. I turn the the door knob and exit my house.

The rich sector is always aglow. I love it. The lights sparkle from house to house, yellow piercing through the darkening skies. I did not realize how late it was. The sun has already disappeared over the mountains in the distance. Now it is just a matter of whether or not I can clear my head in time. I commence walking.

It is always clear when you leave the rich sector. Because after you leave it, the lights are unsure of whether or not they should be on. Some houses have their lights on, others do not. And others only have some lights on. It is amusing. I like to take note of the different sectors and their lighting patterns. At least it helps me to ease my mind.

For some reason, one house in particular catches my attention. It has three lights on, and four lights off. Or at least three windows are illuminated and the other four are not. I stare at the house. Why is it so captivating? There is not much that is special about it. Maybe it is just the way that the house's shadows look as the natural light of the sky dissipates.

But before I can figure out why the house is so entrancing, I'm shaken from my thoughts.

Blood runs from my body to hers. I watch, the hand connected to the tube laying on the table in front of me, the other holding the weight of my head, as I watched, my crystal blue eyes, following the trail. I had been called to the hospital straight from school, the nurses working quickly to get my blood inside her body. It was like she was a vampire and I was her prey. Her fangs in the form of this pipe, sinking into my veins, stealing as much blood as she needed to keep going. I didn't mind today. Today it was only the two of us, two identical people, one a shadow of sickness, the other a pillar of life.

Slowly i allow my gaze to fall upon my sister, my eyes softening in a way that only she could allow. "How are you feeling today," I ask her quietly, letting my head from the palm of my hand, allowing my other hand to rest peacefully next to the one running with tubes. She doesn't say much, she never really does but thats okay because deep down I knew that she really appreciated me being here- and I knew that sometimes I treated her like shit, I complained and I told myself that I hated her... but each time she needed me, each time she called my name that hate would thaw and I would realise how plastic, how fake it really was.

Because in reality it wasn't her, she wasnt' the one I hated.

It was them.

My parents.

They were the real people I hated.

A sigh slips past my lips a nurse slips into the room, her smile gentle as she walks over to my sister her eyes examining the beeping machines. I watched in curiosity as she picks up a notepad, writing down a few notes before smiling over at m, her red lips split in two. I sit up a bit straighter, my eyes watching her as she walks up t my side, pulling out a chair to sit beside me.

"Hey Ariel, looks like we have enough blood now- I'm just going to remove this tube. It might sting, but just bare with me." It was the normal routine. She was a nurse I hadn't seen before, so maybe she didn't understand how many times a month I go through the same situation. But instead of giving the girl a nip of my sharp tongue I just nod, looking away as the needle is plucked from my skin followed by a small white bandaid.

"well done! Didn't even flinch," her voice fills my ears and this time I cant help but look at her, my eyes rolling into the back of my head as I mock her, "Wow go me! I think I deserve a jelly bean, don't you sister?" I give the nurse a annoyed look before she exists the room, her eyes dancing with confusion. Once she is gone the smile returns to my pale lips and I climb to my feet, slightly dizzy, making my way over to her side, kneeling by the bed. I run a hand through her hair, hair which should look strong and heathy, but instead was dull, "I've gotta go, its getting late, but see you soon, okay?" I place a hand on her shoulder before leaning down to place a kiss on her forehead, "Love you." And with that I leave the room, sliding the door closed behind me quietly.

Its dark outside, but the darkness doesn't scare me, not like it would some. I don't live far from the hospital, but you can tell, tell by the way the lights flickered, by the way the streets were lined with bit of litter that it was not the rich sector. Looking over my shoulder I can see the lights that belong to the people with money. My eyes begin to fill with hate, my body tensing. Ugh. I hated rich people. I hated them so much. My lips turn up in distaste as I turn my back on the shinning light.

I am only a hundred meters for my home when I see a dark shape only a few meters away. The person was broad so I concluded it to be a man. I stop only a meter away and watch as he watches a house, not just any house though, my house. He stands there for a long time, his face never leaving my home and soon I begin to feel slightly uncomfortable, my sharp tongue getting the better of me.

"Creepy much? How long do you plan to stare at my home? Until someone changes in front of that window with the lights on? Sorry to disappoint, but only an old hag will be changing in those rooms." My words are laced with venom, my hands placed firmly on my hips. "That might be your cup of tea, but she is still my mother now move along, take your creepy stares with you," with one hand a gesture for him to move, my blue eyes never wavering.

I turn as the voice commences talking.

It is a girl. She looks somewhat thin and frail, but by the tone of her voice, I decide she probably is not. Of course, in the darkness that encases the poor districts, one can never tell exactly how another looks at night.

"That might be your cup of tea, but she is still my mother now move along, take your creepy stares with you," the girl spits.

Each and every syllable she pronounces is like taking a bite from a viper. Each individual letter is packed with all the demeaning aspects she can possibly muster. It is actually quite shocking. I wait for the girl to say something more, but she does not.

I do not quite know how to respond to her. Should I just turn around and leave? Should I stay and wait for her to keep talking? Or should I try to explain myself now? I look around from left to right, trying to see if anybody is eavesdropping on the conversation. Because if anyone does decide to listen, they are going to choose one side, and I am guessing that will not be mine. If I am not careful it is possible I will have a gang on my hands.

Or at least that is what my mother tells me about the poor sector. There are gangs everywhere. They are just waiting to mug you. I am starting to think that I should not have gone out to clear my mind. It is not really helping at all. It is just distracting it with thoughts of how I might die. Die tonight. So much fear courses through my veins. I guess technically this did distract me from my frustration. And that is what I was going for. Right?

I scan the area once again, checking for any odd shapes in the shadows. I look back at the girl. Suddenly anger floods my bloodstream. She cannot talk to me like that. I am innocent. I was merely observing a house and she just comes up to me and starts telling me off. That is no way to talk to somebody. Even if they are looking at your house.

I glare back at the girl, hoping that it is shadowed by the night, and respond in a voice that would suggest sincere innocence, but has the faint sting of venom within, "Sorry. I did not mean to upset you. I was just on a walk and I thought this house looked nice."

I hope she buys it, because I am not in the mood for a fight right now. And I am most certainly not in the mood for what I am guessing she might say next.
