A Shadow of Yourself // [Leon/Colgate]

I realize a little late that Leon’s brother had his name called.

I’ve been preoccupied with others things, and I don’t much like watching the Reapings anyways, all those kids looking shocked and confused, having their names picked and their lives taken away even though they never asked for this. I don’t have as much sympathy for the volunteers, but I think it’ll hit them eventually - you know, what they’ve done, and how they’ve ended their lives.

(Well, maybe. All but one, I guess.)

I didn’t hear the news ‘till my district escort told me, and then I didn’t know what to think.

To be fair, I never know what to think about anything when it comes to Leon Krigel. If the world made any sense at all, I wouldn’t talk to him. He was the one who killed Siren, he struck her down like it was nothing, and I don’t know how I even stand to look at his face, ‘cause that hurt like hell and I don’t think I’ve been okay since.

(Then again, I wasn’t okay in the first place, so maybe it doesn’t even fucking matter.)

But I don’t want to think about it.

Now, it’s Leon Krigel who’s about to feel a loss, and I know – as I watch his brother’s name be called on the screen – that I should go find him, so I venture down the elevator to the floor that houses the crew from District Four. I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to visit other floors, but it doesn’t matter; someone points my in the right direction when I ask for Leon, and I end up peeking my head into his room to see if he’s there.

”Can I come in?” I ask, pulling the door open a little more, standing there awkwardly in the doorway. ”I.. uh. I heard about your brother.”
