Morgan Halfinger

Straight hair below her breasts coloured by the sun; with a few loose strands of straw stuck in it here and there. Morgan usually covers her hair with a cream, brown trimmed cowboy hat, her signature style. A few split ends at the bottom of her hair, Morgan isn’t the type of girl to worry about her appearance much, she really has other things to worry about. Morgan has a bright type of blue for her iris’, she is quite impressed with the colour.

Purely having fitness because of her work, Morgan is really a weathered girl. Callused and blistered hands, with various scabs and scars running up her body, you can tell she hasn’t missed a day of work in her life. The odor of horse manure usually lingers around Morgan but she has grown so used to it, she hasn’t noticed. Dirt fills her fingernails, as well as staining her hands, a few splashes in water usually eradicates it.

Morgan has quite a lean figure; she is a towering height of 5 feet and eleven inches and just weighs in at nine stone and a half. She tends to wear checked shirts, with blue jeans and a pair of brown boots. Her boots along with her hat are basically her life, her trademark.

Grafting all day has given Morgan a great work ethic, she loves being busy. She loves to get things done her own way. Whenever she gets a task, she will put her mind to it, getting it done to the best of her abilities. She thrives for work, she hates being bored and Morgan can never be still. Literally as a child she used to bounce off all four walls, she is still the same, just less mental.

Loving to work, Morgan hates doing things wrong. She goes into a stressed state. If she messes up on things, she usually goes silent for days, crying occasionally by herself. She hates to lose her pride, so rarely asks for help. Morgan thinks she is invincible so hates when her tasks fail. If she gets criticism for doing things wrong, she hates it and usually argues about it. Morgan prefers to be independent in her tasks unless it is something where she will need help, for example lifting heavy objects. However she is quite picky with her help, only asking people close to her.

Social wise, Morgan does enjoy a good ‘chill out’ but rarely finds time for it. Her life is revolved around working. Her only real friend is her horse, a dark bay mare, she calls Jade. Whenever she does get her free time, it is spent with Jade. Named after the gemstone, Morgan thinks she is as beautiful as the gem and as a yearling she was just as green as one. Morgan loves to ride her, groom her, basically hang out with the horse. Jade is a better listener than any human being, she doesn’t argue or answer back. She may throw a few kicks and bucks, but she isn’t like those annoying humans.

Growing up on a ranch, Morgan adapted to farm life quite well. She loved it, all the animals with their different personalities. Her ranch produce cows for beef products, no milkers and the leather is sent off too District 6 to be turned into whatever the Capitol desires. Alongside her younger brother, her father and a few ranch hands, the farm is a productive one. Work life on the yard is fun; a new day is never predictable always something bizarre happening. After all she is working with animals, with their own minds.

Morgan attended school until she was twelve; she was needed on the farm, so gave up her schooling to help out. She learnt enough at school, but found it all useless; nothing she learnt helped her with the career she is in. As soon as she started working full time on the farm, her mother began struggling with basic things, like remembering where things were. As well as this her speech became quite slurred, nobody understood what she saying.

Everyone ignored this for a year, thinking it was some mild illness. Morgan’s mother Salers is a full time house wife; she occasionally helped out on the ranch. Although it became a regular occurrence for the family to return to the house, to find Salers stood in a room crying. Nobody knew exactly what was wrong, her memory was worsening and she sometimes forgot where she was. A medic came when things began to get worse. Salers was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, this had contributed to dementia, being only 45 it was quite rare for her age.

Literally at the day, everything nearly fell apart. Morgan’s mother was basically losing her marbles, she may die forgetting who she was. Morgan’s father Duroc, began to overwork himself, time on the farm was no longer fun. Everyone became silent whilst working, Salers discovered this, she told them not to change because of her illness. She wanted to have the remainder of the days she could remember to be fulfilling, not everyone silent and depressed.

Whenever Morgan finished her work, she would regularly talk to her mother alongside her brother Merino, reciting all the memories they had. Merino being the more caring type, took time out of work, to help his mother. Morgan did the best she could to help her mum, but preferred the life on the ranch, she didn’t want to be anybody’s nanny. She wanted to be out in the fresh air with Jade.
