"Shit, Pentys-" I begin, my face a masterpiece of impatience that hasn't yet been titled and my hair a wind swept blob upon my head. "hurry th' fuck up, will you?" In my left hand, I hold a gun, its silver prowess shining dully in the vague illumination of the street, and when I receive a scoff from the boy who kneels down on scraped knees, his hands busy with picking the lock of the store, it travels to his upper back. A shiver runs down his spine at its cold touch, the thick metal having affected him through the cloth of his shirt, and I suppress a laugh when I see the goosebumps rise into microscopic mountains on his arms.

He knows what game I play, I think to myself when the signature click of the barrel moving into place fills my ears and I feel his body stiffen under my hold. It's not like he met me yesterday. Such an incredibly blissful feeling, it is, to get so lost in inner speech, but it never does last very long, does it? I'm shaken from my thoughts by the concise clinging of a lockpick falling to the ground and Pentys's movement upward, slow yet hurried in fear that I'll pull the trigger and bury a reminder of who's in charge deep into his body.

"Good boy." My voice plays teasingly to the person who shares my flesh and blood, his beauty almost level to my own but not quite there, and as I pass by him, opening the door that he had been working so vigorously on only a moment before, I take a second to bow, pulling the hem of my dress up like I'm royalty and he's my dashing knight. "Maybe I'll give ya a little somethin' later." I wink and place my gun into my belt, my right hand bringing the cigarette I had been holding up to my lips and then smoke moving out of my mouth in a ringlet, bursting onto his face and giving me time to skip into the store, my small hands reaching for the first article of clothing that they can get their grasp on.

"Ooh, what a nice pattern." I throw the shirt over my right arm without a single care in the world, and as I look back to my brother with a smile that's deceptively content, I can see it in his eyes what he thinks of me. "Looks this good don't come cheap," I say out loud, not caring if he hears. "And boys this pretty don't like 'good'." A short giggle falls loose from my mouth before moving to the next rack, plucking up a design and throwing it on top of the other; I'm not sure what it looks like, but I do it to scare him. After all, fear is the only thing I hold and if I lose that, I won't have anything left.

After a considerable amount of time and a hurried rush of words warning me that it was nearing three am, I decided that I had gathered enough loot to keep me satisfied for now. "Thanks, Pent~" With a half-moon smile and something that resembled blowing a kiss, I handed him the backpack I had been holding and took the much lighter one that rested in a luminous shadow by the door. "We definitely have to do this again some time." And with that, I threw the left strap over my shoulder, then the right; I was leaving, but he would follow. He would always fucking follow or so help me god, he would regret it.

He might be older, but he is n o t h i n g without me.

Of course, he has Septys and Octys if he chooses to leave, but what will those damn boys do for him anyway? Certainly not give him free things nor a steady sense of satisfaction, that's for sure. So here he'll remain because I care for him, and I'm the only person who has ever cared for him- even when mom and dad were still alive, they didn't even give two shits about the kid, and they were the ones who created him. So if his own parents didn't love him, why would anyone else? It's simple logic that he has failed to catch onto because he's too damn stupid to live on his own.

Sometimes I wonder why even I stick around for the poor kid. I mean, we live in a house with our siblings, but none of us talk with the exclusion of asking where father has wandered off to every once in a while- it's as if we have already journeyed elsewhere, when we haven't even taken a step in the opposite direction. Our family has been dead, after all, ever since our mother decided to take her own life because she "couldn't stand seeing her baby boy dress like a woman." Sometimes, I stop and thank an external being that I don't believe in for not gifting me with her generous stupidity. Why couldn't she have just died in the games with her peers when she was younger? It would have saved us all a lot of trouble, if you think about it.

The games are such a wonderous occasion, I've come to think; what a creative way to weed out the weak in our society and replace them with only the strongest. In reality, I would love to partake in such- I've trained for them my entire life, after all, preparing for the day that I will imagine my mother's head upon theirs and take the liberty of killing her once again, over and over and over until I reign on top, spitting in her face that she is one hell of a biggoted bitch and that it was her time long before she realised it. It's simple really- I am smart, and the others are not, I have the will, and the others do not, I have charisma, and the others do not. Even my family has come to know as much, and if they can comprehend it, then it shouldn't be that hard for others of similar nature, right?

If my chocolate-sprinkled hair and viciously hazel eyes didn't say it, then I will- I'm one of the best, and there's no denying the truth.
